Joe, that sucks.

Have you tried burnishing the tape down with a toothpick?

As promised a quick pick of the Nieuport 11 to date.

The pin holes are just forward of the cockpit, invisible in the pic, but very noticeable on the gloss blue.

The Nieuport 17 is in the back ground, the fuselage is just held together by the engine cowl.

Well my invasion stripes are painted.  Now for the touch up with the brush.  No matter how dilligent I am in the application of masks there is always bleed through.  This time is black onto white. Censored [censored]!

I should have some photos up within the next week or so...

Bob, the wood effect is ridiculously easy to acheive, but gald you like it all the same.

Jay, like I said over on the BOAGB, don't worry about it.

Progress Update

Fuselage is together, wings are on, and the blue of Guynemer's plane has been applied. This has to be the fastest build I've ever done.

Top coat has showed up a few pin holess, which the super glue didn't fill, so I've ordered some Mr.Surfacer to see how that works.

In the mean time I've started on the Nieuport 17.

Pics to follow.

Thanks guys for the words of encouragement.  I'm sure you will understand if my presence here is diminished for a while.  I don't see myself doing much modeling for the next little while.

Nice work Karl-I especially like the way the prop turned out-very realistic.

Progress Update

The pit is painted, which must be a record for, an entire pit built and painted in 24 hours!

Here's the pic to prove it.

The wood effect is a dilute application of Gunze Mud acrylic over a base of Gunze Radome, which doubles as a clear doped linen.

I ended up building the gun and mounting brackets using brass wire along with some of the kit parts, and a lot of super glue. Now I know it will all fit after the paintwork is complete.

Tomorrow should see the fuselage halves closed up. The white styrene strip on the port fuselage half is to rectify a slight step shown up with trial fittings.

I'm finally rolling on this one!!!

Started work on the Nieuport 11 of Guynemer this afternoon, will start painting the pit tomorrow.

I'm thinking this won't take too long, as the sprues are already practically empty, with everything cleaned up awaiting paint and assembly.

It's a...BOY!

As some may have noticed, I haven't been around lately because on May 22 my wife went into labour and at 1:15am on May 23, little Matthew Nicholas Boutin was born.  So here's a little picture of him a few days after we got home.  The last week has been really crazy so to all the people I am in GB's with, all bets or off as to whether or not I'll finish them in time.  If you want to see more pics, you can go to: http://s70.photobucket.com/albums/i107/mattapriljay/

Glamorous Glen II is starting to come along.  Now in the "pick and shovel" phase of masking the invasion stripes.

The Tamiya kit is wonderful.  The detail of the panel linel and surface detail is great!  After working on Airfix kits for the OOTB Build and a vac form a shake and bake is nice!

Thanks Karl,  My wife is doing much better the Doc's had a look at this week and were happy enough to take of the cast or maybe it was her threat to beat them with itEvil [}:)] I also have some old builds that I practice on it's just a question of more practice I'm not consistant in my paint application.

Dave  I'll keep that in mind next time I use silly putty thanks for your My 2 cents [2c] all coments are appreciated.

Cheers

I'm no expert, superbear, but if you don't thin the silly putty out too much and leave a thick, rounded edge, you can, perhaps, eliminate those ridges.  Just make sure to paint directly above the area and don't try to angle the paint under the rounded edge of the silly putty.  My 2 cents.  Smile [:)]

Bear, take a leaf out of Tom's book and practise on milk jugs and cola bottles, they work out cheaper than kits.

Having said that, I've got a couple of old junkers that I practise new paint techniques on.

I meant to say in the BoA GB, hope your wife gets better soon.

Nothing doing on the Nieuports at the moment, they'll have to wait till next week when the Greif is out of the way.

Hi Dave,  I'm using a Badger 350 with MM enamel paint and it works fine the problem is more with me  before I started I went through the paint an AB section for hint & tips.  The end result being I need way more practice on my follow through I'm getting to much paint on the build in one shot.   Practice makes perfect I guess I'll have to pick up a few extra kits to practice on Smile [:)]

Hey Bear, what kind of paint and airbrush are you using? I'm sure someone around here could help you out with some tips to get the flow right.

Hi All well I'm on a roll here are the progress pics promised in my last post (yes I know it's been a while).

Since those pics were taken I've assembled the fuselage and wing assy,  filled the gaps (love those Airfill kits) and started my least favorite part of the build painting.  The underside and tail band went well, then I started the upper surface.  The gray went on well then I used silly putty to mask and started to apply the DK green and this is were things start falling appart.  I'm having control problems  with paint flowBanged Head [banghead] and painting in general, when the silly putty was removed there were quite a few ridges. So now it's sanding & paint touch ups I'm hoping I have'nt wrecked it.  Anyway that's my sad tale thanks for listening, more later.

Cheers

Sorry Bob, I didn't see your request, I did a google search for John J England, I couldn't find him but I did find a James J England who fought in the CBI and had 10 kills, is that the one your doing?

Joe, in the past I've used a light grey as primer and it seemed to turn out alright.  For my Canso in the BofA GB I plan on doing that as the plastic styrene is black!Smile [:)]

Now that I have the Canso fuselage glued and sanded, I'm going to try really hard to get the cp of my Spitfire together and installed so I can glue the fuselage together and make it look like I've done something on this one.Wink [;)]

progress report:

I chickened out on the resin fuselage for the P51D-5, I cut and filled the Tamiya kit.  The wings are on the fuselage closed and stabilizers on.  Now to paint the invasion stripes.  Any one out there have any tips for dealing with white, I hate painting white!

Well I have a little progress to report on finally.  The replacement seat for the one I lost from my P-47 arrived today from the US thanks to Geoff (gedenke) over at the P-47 GB.    I painted it up this evening so now I should be able to get back to work on this bad boy and finish the front office so the rest of the kit can get moving.

Cheers

Bob, glad I'm not the only indecisive one around here!Wink [;)]

Jay, thanks for updating the front page.

I broke the cellophane on the Eduard Nieuport 11 last night, just to take a looksie, but ended up assembling some of the cockpit.

Detail is great, and neither the 11 nor the 17 should take long to complete, especially as I'm going for single colour camo schemes. I want a break after the Greif!

bump...and while I'm here...Jay-do you mind if I change my build (I haven't started yet-up to my eyeballs elesewhere) to John J. England's P-51A (CBI theater).  It will be the Accurate Miniature 1/48th P-51A.

Thanks
