The Great Flanker Group Build - Now until 2010??

You may want to re-start a new GB on modern jet fighters, rather than re-surrect an old one?

You mat get some of us to join a new GB, just maybe! :) cheers

Well it has been a long time since I have been on here but thought that I would bump this one back to page one to see if it sparks any interest!!!

Still have 3 or 4 flankers to build eventually.  I have also decided to build my 1/72 flanker in typical Russian service scheme since I cant seem to find any matches for the bright colors used in the other scheme.

Thanks for the kind words, the PE set is the Eduard Su-27 flanker set, it includes parts for the cockpit as well as the louvres and more detail for the landing gear bays.  It has been a long while since I last looked at it so I'd have to get back to you with more of the specifics on what else it includes.  I do remember that when I got the set in the mail, it had only half of the instructions, the other page was from a P-51 set.  That was easy enough to fix though, I downloaded  a .pdf file that was the instructions from their website.  Hopefully I'll get back to her again soon, the F-15 that I have been building is nearing completion.

No problem, I think that my entries for this GB are probably a bit on the optomistic side as well, seems as if I haven't finished any kits this year and next year isn't looking much better either.  Real life always gets in the way of fun!!  BTW - I have taken a few pics of where my flanker sits right now, I'll try to get them posted soon.

Thanks matt for also extending the life of this GB. The Flanker is a fabulous plane and the more people can join in the better we can do it justice! 

For reference: the SKM is definitely the bluey-green pit with two large MFDs (instead of the steam driven instruments with one small MFD of the standard Flanker B). The IR sensor on the front of the canopy is also offset to the right hand side, not central as with earlier variants.

Looks to me like a good start, I have dug mine out of the box that it was in for the move, now I need to snap some more photos of it.  I would say that you are almost as far along as I have been for the better part of a year.

 I would agree with TB379, the TS 2135 color should be a fair match for that lovely cockpit color.  As I was glancing through the photos on the page that you linked to, I also noticed that one of the cockpit photos showed the instrument panel in a light grey color.  So you might have to do a bit more research on sites like that one for the color found in the pit on your bird.

Can anyone recommend a good color match for the Su-27 pit? On the newer models it's a kind of turquoisey-bluey color, not the same as the pale blue of the other interior areas. There's a pic from this helpful site here

Here's where I'm at with my Su-27; not very far, I know, but I'm getting there!

I painted the rear fuselage over the engines, but I wasn't happy with the results, so now I gotta strip it; I'll post some more pictures when I'm happy with the results.

Hi Matt,

Just noticed this group build -- I have the Encore Su-27 and Su-35 kits, which will probably be a real challenge, I remember they have raised panel lines which will need doctoring. I also have the Zvezda Su-30 with antishipping load, which would be quite a colorful job. As the time period is so relaxed I see no reason why I couldn't tackle one for this effort, if you'll have me aboard. The Flanker is truly one of the most spectacular planes there's ever been.

(Currently building a Fw 190 for the Farewell Airfix GB.)

I really have the flanker bug, however I have a F-15E that is staring me in the face every time that I get the chance to even look at my woorkbench, which hasnt been that often as of late.

Oh and, BUMP!!!!!

Here is a shot of the scheme that I'll be trying to duplicate on my 1/72 flanker.  The RoG boxing is a rebox( I believe) of the Hasa kit down to the decals.  This is the second option that you are given.

I'll post some WIP pics soon, just gotta upload them to photobucket.

 Welcome to the build, I wish that I had the space available for a 1/32 Flanker!!  I saw the bird that you are talking about in person at the Paris Airshow, very impressive, and very large!!!

I'll add you to the list up top, and please post some progress pics!!

To all, I am thinking about extending the ending date to somewhere in the distant future, so maybe that will help to attract some more participants!!

Trumpeter 1/32 Su-27 with various goodies attached - hopefully converted to -27 SKM with the 2005 Paris Air Show color scheme.

Won't be starting until Jan/Feb 2007 tho!

Sorry Matt, I totally forgot about this build.. My next aircraft project will be another MiG29UB.. I would like to do another SU-27 two seater, but dont know when.. I will definately drop in from time to time..
