Done...well sort of

1/72 Academy T'Bolt.  Nice kit even stratight ot of the box.  Looking at it make me consider doing a dio. It has the Aires details set. Funny thing though, no bulged tires (?!)

The sludge got away from me a bit and the canopy frame was still damp when the photo was shot.  Now for the kicker, I put the landing gear in wrong...Banged Head [banghead]

No big deal, snip, snap, drip, drop and it will be fixed.

I have no idea how the pic looks since I am posting this from home...seems my son got into control panel or something and the whole thing is a bit of a pig's breakfast.

Gulfstream nice save on your p-40Party [party].

I got some work done on the p-61. the major assemblies are pu together so it's starting to look like a plane now. I am now entering the puttying and sanding stage. Most likely will be here for a while as there are many seams and gaps to fill. Forgot how bad this one fit together or maybe just did not want to remember!Approve [^] Oh well, I'll post some prograss pics soon.Cowboy [C):-)]

Hey Guys!

Sorry for my enforced absence, wow things have been hairy of late.  Just recently I have had some time to get back on the bench.  My Jug is almost home, I figure about 85% complete.

The detail set has been a challenge, in fact some parts are going to be left off.

The work being posted has been tremendous!  I hope everyone is enjoying themselves, and I am certainly looking forward to seeing more.

Hi Joe!  Glad to see you're alive and well.  Big Smile [:D]

Gulfstream: Top notch job on the repair. I'm glad you didn't let that glitch get in the way of an outstanding build. Great job.

Yeah Jerry that Tamiya Thin will run like that even when applied with a Touch N Flow. CA thick works OK and even Testors liquid cement is a real good option on that application(Like I'm an expert on glue joints after my debacle on the P-40).                                                Thanks to all for your support on my project nightmare, I probly would have sent it off the balcony to a auggerd death if it wasn't for wanting to get it done for this GB.                          All you Guys' are doing a great job on your projects and I enjoy seeing the Pics of the WIP and Final results! Chris-nice job on the Wildcat.  One of my favorite planes and you've done it justice.

Gulfstream-great save!  Really nice job on the camo too.

Ollie-yep...too many models....too little time.....

JerrynFrog-ouch!  However, it sounds like you've made a good recovery and shared a good tip regarding the use of Liquid Paper.  Thanks.

I, on the other hand, am still bogged down on the Axis Aces GB....and in need of a quick win.  Therefore, I ordered a Tamiya Zero (inexpenive) and may go with it rather than the Hasegawa P-38 or Hasegawa P-40 (both great kits, but with the PE  I have for both kits, they are too much for me at the moment.)  Will advise.  Not that the Tamiya kit isn't good/challenging, but they seem to 'go together' will less stress than their Hasegawa counterparts.  Maybe I'll try some 'extreme weathering'...

I had a bit of a setback with my 1/72 P-40 that I would like to share.  The problem is minor as it deals with the rear landing gear doors and tail wheel area which hardly shows unless you turn the plane upside down.

1) I spent a fair amount of time with putty and sanding to eliminate the seam at the tail wheel area and after painting with Humbrol interior green and allowing to cure for several days, I decided the seam job was fine and decided to install the doors.......well I used the Tamiya extra thin solvent as sparingly as I could and ended up getting it all over the painted area, crazing/wrinkling the paint.  I learned, I think, I should have used a thick tube cement or a thick cyanoacrylate to do the job. What do you guys use for attaching such parts?

2) I installed one of the gear doors too close to the tail wheel hole which interferred with it's fit and tried to carefully remove the offending door and ended up breaking it about two thirds the way back.  I re-glued it using a tube glue and needed to blend it in with the rear portion and I used Squadron green putty, sanded, and then tried the trick of filling the area needing more putty with the 'liquid paper' correction fluid.  I haven't painted yet, but that stuff might be an incredible, inexpensive find for our hobby. It's rather hard to explain, but when re-gluing the door I had to change it's location slightly to clear the tail wheel hole and then blend in the two fragments to have the door appear correct.

This is my second plane and I'm learning much.

Just droppin' in to post an update on my 2 piece P-40E. I got her back together, sort of, and shes' got some wheels and will be ready to fly soon. Almost done here, just the small stuff 'till FP(finished product). Not too shure about the markings, I think they might be closer to CBI Ops but I had them and I slapped 'em on, what the hey? Will post the FP as soon as I get 'er doneBig Smile [:D]. Thanks for looking and being part of a great GB.  Here's the WIP pics:                Cool [8D]

Yes indeed!  Funny, I just posted in the Axis Aces thread that you should check out this GB, looks like you already did!  You bet!  The Battle of the Coral Sea and all those aircraft you mentioned totally work for this build.  Big Smile [:D]

Bummer man, is there anyway you could pry off the nose without causing too much damage?   Or is there some other way to get access to the nose piece?

Hi Guys.

I spoke to Espins the other day about joining this GB and he said no worries.

I'd like to enter with my 1/48 Grumman JRF Goose.

I really have no info about this aircraft and it's service. If anyone can help me find out more about the Goose's WWII service, I'd really appreciate it.

Cheers.

Mark

Thanks guys...you are all WAY too kind!  Dave, I did read your post a few pages back and was inspired by your 'base'.  Thanks for showing us what a 'real' South Pacific diorama should look like! Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Hey!  Nice work on the Hellcat Chris!  Just the right amount of weathering for my tastes.  Panel lines look great, and I love the exhaust stains and streaks from the guns.  Another fantastic build amigo!  Cool [8D] Thumbs Up [tup] Thumbs Up [tup]

Hey mokulele I like it. Nice tastefully done weathering. As for the diorama base I think its perfect. I have almost the same base for my wildcat ( see a page or two back). Its a little known fact that many times carriers and airfields were camoed to look like cutting boards to confuse the enamy. LOL

Very nice build Mokulele. She looks like she is ready to launch off the USS My Workbench. Just don't let her ditch in the sea. Very nice job.
