Tony & Legend

You're in.

Mucker

You did jump the gun, but the kit looked so good I did not have the heart to burst your bubble.

I am in Cape Cod on vacation, so I will update the list when I get back.

Mucker - the P-40E would work... you'd have to research on decals but it was there...  (see Tony's post about the RAAF P-40E, I am sure more countries flew them including the US from the Phillipines...

I'm used to having my bubble burst! Maybe I should jump over to your Allied Aces GB with the P-40E (Bob Vought) and then hop back into here in August with another entry?

I was in Harwich.  Real nice place!  Checked out the MayflowerII and Plymouth Plantation while I was there as well.  Great striper fishing!  Hey what is up with those traffic rotaries?!?!

The list will be updated tomorrow.

Well I blew the proverbial nest egg and bought some PE and resin, etc.. etc... for the B-25 I will be building.  It won't be 100% accurate in the markings but I'll try... the unit markings for the rudders have "Crusaders" in old English font below the shield with the croix de Lorraine on it, but I am not sure how close I can get the font or if it will even show right.  since it is an OD airplane I am using the white colored decal paper to get maximum brilliance with the decals.  I think if I did the letters on clear to show the definition between the letters it might be too subdued...

Anyway... if anyone is interested in reading about the 42nd Bombardment Group in the South Pacific, I recently obtained their history, written by the unit historian in 1946.  The son in law of one of the pilots found it in his stuff after he passed, out of courtesy to the provider, all credit goes to Paul L. Ryder (deceased), of the 42nd...  Some of it is pretty interesting and the pics give you an idea how horrible living conditions were in some of the places these aviators flew!  Of course then there are the 2 pages of nothing but naked indigenous women... so I guess it had its flip side...  Wink [;)]

Here's the link to download it:

Warning!!!  It is 270MB big, dial up beware!

Got my Airfix 1/72nd PBY5A, and boy is the kit a dog in relation to the thick plastic and poor detail.  Well, it is off to researching, and seeing what I can do with it! Smile [:)]  Plan on making this a 'Black Cat' as I like the mssion that those guys flew, and the lack of 'press' that they got.

"for some one's submission would you be willing to try a "wreck"?  Some time ago there was an article in FSM of a "wrecked" Zero.  Quite impressive really."

I'd be in on that, since I'm entered in the "wasting away GB with 2 1:48 P-40Bs, that'd be perfect!

Current Builds: If I were to list everything I have in progress, it'd take way too long! Some notable inclusions:

4 (yes, four) Tamiya 1:48 F4U-1s (1x -1D, 1x -1A, and 2x -1s)

Zip - just say "hi I have "X" kit and I wanna join up"  about that simple!!!  As long as your kit fits the subject matter, and as long as you send each of us already enrolled $1 US then you're in!  ok... well forget about the money... you can save that for another kit!  Wink [;)]

I can see the headlines now... "FBI busts major pyramid scheme on internet hobby site"  nope.. wouldn't be good at all!  Laugh [(-D]

Ok

Hi there , I would like to join the group build. I have a P-40M and a A6m3 Zero. I should be able to build both in the time limit. The P-40 is an Academy model and really doesn't have that many parts.

I'm no expert, but I would say no question on the A6M2 (I'm building a A6M2 Type 21 myself) and P-40M's were used by RAAF and RNZAF units under lend-lease, so I would say it qualifies as well. Some info on the P-40M -

P-40M Warhawk, Kittyhawk III

In 1943, the scarcity of Packard Merlin engines necessitated that the Allison engine be reintroduced yet again into the P-40 production line. The result was the P-40M version.

The P-40M was essentially similar to the P-40K-20-CU, apart from the use of the Allison V-1710-18 engine, rated at 1200 hp for takeoff and 1125 hp at 17,300 feet. The P-40M could be distinguished from the P-40K by the introduction of a cooling grill forward of the exhaust stubs.

The P-40M was built solely for Lend-Lease, the contract being approved on August 24, 1942. The first P-40M appeared in November, 1942. Most of them went to the RAF, the RAAF, and the RNZAF as the Kittyhawk III. The type served with British Commonwealth forces in the Far East. A number were operated in Italy by No. 5 Squadron of the South African Air Force.

The differences between the production blocks were as follows:

The P-40M-1-CU had reinforced ailerons.

The P-40M-5-CU had improved carburetor air filters and further aileron improvements.

The P-40M-10-CU had revised undercarriage warning systems and fuel system changes

Serials of the P-40M were as follows:

43-5403/5462 Curtiss P-40M-1-CU Warhawk
43-5463/5722 Curtiss P-40M-5-CU Warhawk
43-5723/6002 Curtiss P-40M-10-CU Warhawk

The RAF serials for the 264 P-40Ms supplied to the RAF as Kittyhawk IIIs were FR779/FR872 and FS100/FS269.

168 P-40Ms were supplied to Australia as Kittyhawk IIIs under the serial numbers A29-300/389, A29-400/414, A29-420/434, A29-442/460, and A29-473/502.

34 P-40Ms went to New Zealand as serial numbers NZ3066/3073, NZ3075/3089, NZ3109/3119, and NZ3180

The P-40M equipped the No. 5 Squadron of the South African Air Force serving in Italy.

19 P-40Ms were transferred to Brazil.

I think they were Bs on Clark field when the Japs attacked it, or maybe Cs. Either way, the two were similar enough that I could do either.

got the goods today from the FedEx man... the PE looks pretty impressive, over 100 pieces, most of them sidewall and floor and instruments, as well as the complete dorsal turret assembly (not sure I am up to that kind of folding, even with a homemade Etch Mate! it's going to be fun trying to fold all those ammo boxes too for the side gunner positions... I'm excited!  The True Details wheels look nice and crisp, a nice diamondtread to them and no mold marks or flash...

Friday is my start date!

Hey guys, will it be ok if I change my build from the F4F-4 Wildcat and work on a Nakajima Night Figher Gekko 11 (Irving) instead??

I got this kit on sale at my local hobby lobby.  They had it on the clearance cart at the front of the store for 12 bones Shock [:O].  I can't wait to build it!

Things could be worse. Suppose your errors were counted and published every day, like those of a baseball player. Life will always throw you curves, just keep fouling them off... the right pitch will come, but when it does, be prepared to run the bases.

I'd be happy to post photos and let you know how this build goes.  I'll try to get some photos of the kit contents in the next couple days if you'd like (have to borrow a camera from the fiance)

oops I just realized this one doesn't start till the 7th of aug... I already folded a few ammo boxes on the PE for my kit... am I damned to an eternal hell of Lindbergh kits and the tiny bottles of Testors paints now?  Wink [;)]

I'll have to put it away so I'm not tempted again...
