DURR,  You obviously got a defective sheet.  I'd contact the manufacturer for a replacement.

...and it just keeps getting better.  I Future'd the P-40 earlier today-check on it this pm and I seem to have 'misplaced' one of the landing gear covers.  I've been needing to clean-up my work area anyway.....

Tanky-1/72 is a bit too small for my skills-both modeling & motor.  However, there is the T-34 (1/35) in the stash and the recent FSM article on winter camo/weathering.....hummmm-Rick, isn't it about time for the Eastern Front GB?

yeah sometimes we all get those builds. I normally take a break and go work on something little and fun in the meantime. Like 1/72 modern armor.

RadMax-bummer on the flaps.  Discouraging to be in the middle of a project and run into something like that.  Hope you can get satisfaction from the mfg.

Rick & Tanky-thanks.  This is just one of those builds that I'm not enjoying the way I have some other recent ones.

Wow, that can't be right, that gap is huge!  Hopefully they can rectify that for you.

Thanks, Tanky!

RadMax, I agree with you.  Those Verlinden flaps have to be mistake on their part.  That gap is just huge.

Well there's a lot of updatin' so I might as well join.

I started on the cockpit of my P-51A a while ago... I'm just getting close to finishing. All the painting is pretty much done, I just have to do weathering/washes and add a few doodads. the verlinden set is really nice. I will take pics when I finish it up (probably sometime this week... stupid college)

I've also done some work on the wings. However, as you can see, I think I got stuck with some bad flaps...

I've contacted Verlinden, hopefully they'll send me flaps free of charge...

Bob, may not be your best work, but certainly acceptable.  The Trumpeter P-40B with the Cutting Edge cockpit is about the best combo currently available.

arki, nice one!  The Hasegawa kit is a little more work, but it's superior to the old AMT & Eduard/Mauve kits in most respects.

Arki-Thanks for the encouraging work.  Not terribly happy with the Academy kit to begin with-most of the issues are self-induced though.  I don't think the resin interior was worth the effort.  I wish there was a Hasegawa or Tamiya offering for the early P-40's.

Your build looks great! The effort shows.

Bob, the camo looks good from here.  The couple "oops" spots aren't really that noticable.  Keep posting!

On my end, I'm finished.  Here's my P-40N for this group build.  Markings are from Cutting Edge and represent P-40N-5 CAF 'White 663' of Capt. Wang Kuang Fu, CACW's 7FS in Laohokow, China, January 1945.  He was an ace with 6.5 kills.

Kit is Hasegawa, built OOTB except for Eduard seatbelts, Ultracast wheels and exhausts.  Kit went together pretty easily, although it's certainly more complicated than the AMtech offerings.

Had a tough time with the Cutting Edge decals.  You can see some silvering on the Chinese characters (Great Grandfather - Commander) which would not go away no matter how much solvent was applied.  The decals just seem and look thicker than Cutting Edge is known for.

Anyone with a good eye will notice I'm missing an exhaust stack on the starboard side.  Yep, pinged that one into the stratosphere trying to carefully remove from the resin block.  Have no idea where it landed.

I really wanted to take the time and apply a light wash to it like my Dauntless from the Carrier GB, but I'm pressed for time as other issues in my life are taking center stage.  So, it is what it is.

Thanks Tanky for the GB and allowing me to participate.  This is a great subject and the possibilities are extensive.  I'd recommend doing this subject again next year!

Camo applied-not my best work.  Think I can salvage it with heavy pastel weathering though.

i like to set ym decals in future. It really drags them down into the panel lines very well, even if they are thick.

Decals are applied and flat coat shot.  I'm a little disappointed with the decals.  I've used Cutting Edge decals before and never had problems.  These were just a little too thick to lay down correctly.  They don't look bad, just not as good as I had hoped for.

Anyway, next is to mask the canopy and shoot the frames with paint.  Then I'm home free.

Nice looking build Joe.

I have always wanted to do an IJN aircraft, but the canopy framework has been intimidating.

Nice progress, DURR.

I've always wanted to build a Kate, too.  I look forward to seeing it come together.

On my end, I've futured in preparation for the decals.  I'll probably have pics sometime mid-week.

the interior alone is about a third of the model, detail is as good or better than a hasemiya

paid less than 5 bucks for it so it makes it look even better . i used less filler than on some tamegawa i have built too

Joe-nice build.  Looking forward to the finished build.  How do you find the interior detail & overall fit of the ICM kit?

Made a little (very little) progress on the P-40.  Kinda wish I hadn't gone with the resin interior-more time than it was worth, imho.  And I don't think it helped the overall fit any.  I think it's always a little better to spend a little bit extra on a Tamiya/Hasegawa kit than go with a less expensive kit and spend excess on details.  Just not a lot of options on early P-40's though.  Live & learn.

Hopefully I'll get it primed (completely-some parts are primed already) this week and start on the overall painting by weekend.  Ordered decals (Cutting Edge) having seen numerous comments (none positive) on Academy decals.  May try a heavy weathering approach just for fun.
