Belly Plates: The LAST Order... ?

I'll be placing my order with the shop Friday, and hopefully picking it up a week later. I know I'll have extra $ at the end of the month) so anyone wishing plates should tell me now. These are NOT countersunk, but will include hardware/bevelling as usual.

I already have 'orders' for another Sherman, another KT & ~three~ more Tiger 1's (by far the most popular) but due to waning interest, I won't be ordering very many 'spares'. I suspect this may well be my last order, unless I let the spares go on eBay and there is more interest there.

Belly Plates: A New Order...

Well, after Wlad asking for more, he's cleaning out my inventory, apart from my masters. An I owe him one as it seems the last T1 went AWOL in transit. I don't even have any left for me, unless I use my masters!

I'll be receiving my Pershing in a number of weeks, and will see if/where it its capable of accepting reinforcement.

Price is still $40, no countersink but with low-profile h/w. Why no price shift? Cause they all go tracked & insured now. I also have to tack on PayPal fees, as its screwing us Canucks (as usual)

Let me know, and pass the word.

CT -
I did use CA glue on the Aber as I didn't have a good soldering iron at the time. I wish I'd gone ahead and gotten an iron, it would be a lot stronger.

Very nice Eric. Did you use krazy glue for all the Aber stuffs? I have a R/C one, hence I tried to solder most of the Aber details.

Update time again. Lots of pics!!

Ok, here's the back end with all the goodies added on. I'm liking the way it's looking!! Here you go.

Here's some pics of the S&T resin tracks. They'll look great when they're done, very accurate and good detail!

Here's one on the sprue and a couple cleanded and connected.

Holes in the guide horns!!

Good detail on the face of the tracks...

Cleaning off the sprues was a piece of cake. Only had one that didn't snap right off.

This on the other hand.............could take a while...
You can see 5 links I assembled on the deck of the Tigger btw.

BYA's tracks:

As reported elsewhere, the 1/16 BYA tracks are made by Kenny Kong. They are pinned like Tamiyas, with heads on the pins for easy removal.

It is recommended to CA all the pins ~except~one~ in place, and then mark that lone pin-head with paint, so that opening the track later is easy. To do this you just pull the pin out a bit, put a bit of CA where the head meets the shaft, and then push the pin back into place.

I've ordered the Pershing cupola and ~two~ of the Pershing turret detail sets direct from Axel-Modellbau, and I'll report on their quality when they arrive. Payment by PayPal was easy, though expect a 4% charge for use (beats bank transfer charges!)

If all goes well, I'll be ordering more parts, perhaps the tapered antennas and a few other bits (like the T1 nose-piece/pin-guard) Lets hope they pick up where Dirk left us hanging, eh?

(wrestling with a T-23 turret ...)

Thanx for the input,y'all...
Couple of questions in lieu of BYA's reply:
Anyone know of another source for "Elite" metal track links?
Do the " Elite" links for the KT feature enclosed area for
the pins or are they cast open like Tamiyas?
I'm getting psyched for a resto-rebuild of my production KT model
& I'll need something decent for spares on the turret sides as
these are VERY prominent.
Many Thanks for the help,
Roowalker

I just placed an order with BYA 4 weeks ago. One item showed a 2 week back order, the rest in stock. I emailed 2 weeks ago to check on the status and haven't recieved a reply yet. I'm wondering about them myself but I guess it'll get here from what y'all are saying. It would be nice if their customer support was a little better.

I just recieved a package from BYA here in Australia with no problems. It took two weeks to get here. I though at first I did think the emails were going no where. So, I will be happy to do business with them again.

I shouldn't worry.

Have also sourced stuff from Axels in Germany = EXCELLENT service!!!!!

BYA is pretty reliable. The "in-stock" indicator works well for me when ordering. I bought a few things from them recently and got them reasonably fast.

Question, folks, how goes your dealings with BYA ? I've e-mailed
them a couple of times re. product information & haven't received
any reply...a problem here or are they just kind of intermittent?
Thanks,

Detailed Static Tracks?

Yeppers, S&T (A division of Verlinden Productions) has put out a set thats meant for high-quality static Tiger displays, and even has the missing holes in the guide horns. It snaps together, will droop properly, and even has spare links after you assemble both track-sets.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5928014579

Note, these are ~early~ Tiger 1 links, not the late style ones.

I've dealt with the seller before, no problems at all.

Figures...

Well, I got my Dragon #1609 Normandy Ace Tanker (i.e. Wittman) and I have to say its as good as Tamiya's, if perhaps better. The headset is cast in more pieces, and includes some PE for it, though you have to supply the cabling for it. There is an optional hand, so you could have Wittman holding the SMG or perhaps even the flare pistol instead of the headset as show. It also includes a black plastic base... parts bin...

Well worth the $14 US shipped from HK. Now to do up my 1/35 one in the matching poses to the 1/16... the tasks never end...

Got the first side of the smoke dischargers finished. Sorry the pics aren't clearer but it was hard to hold them and get the light on them. Here they are...

Yes WW, I did realize I'd had a brain fart on the sight wires but hadn't taken them off yet when I took those pics.

One more side to go on the dischargers. Big Smile [:D]

Hi All,

I'm in the process of building a 1/16 Tiger I also. For the Aber set, i found an easy way (for me) to solder. I use a regular solder gun with the thinnest soldering wire. The trick is to scrub off the tip of the gun till bare copper show thru and use plenty of resin "acid" prep. I use a big metal file lying on my desk, i just scrub the tip against the file a few time. For these Aber parts, all you need to do is to heat the solder and spread it where you need. With a clean tip, this will happen almost instantaneously.

Well...

I've talked to Willy, and there seems to be ~NO~ interest on Dirk's part to sell anything more.

I'd recommend www.RCPanzer-Shop.de/shop_en/ as you noted, and Markus horn is very good about sending parts.

The new guys are www.axels-modellbau-shop.de/eng/Index2.htm. They are the store that advertised the KT grilles up on eBay (associated with Schumo-Kits). Much of Axel's stuff is also available in the US through www.BackyardArmor.com.

For those of you what wanted the Aber ammo sets, Jadar Hobby in Poland has the best price at $19.72 USD plus shipping (about $3.00 to the US)

If anyone from North America is ordering from Markus, let me know, I may wish to 'share' the shipping costs (want an MG34 and maybe other bits)

One of our recent Prime Minister's said in Parliament that Australia was "the arse end of the planet'", so I wonder if I might be able to get this contraband here in some dodgy China Town outlet.

Will try.

.............also,

Dirk's tank pieces??? Where do you get them from? Are they any better than some of the other metal detail pieces you can get from these guys?

sgslorta:

Someone else mentioned Carr's Solder Paste, it melts at a much lower temp, can be melted with the cheapie butane torches that take the lighter refills, and is MUCH easier than usual solder and even CA. Cleans up easily too.

I'm still waiting to hear if they can get it imported again, as the new import/transport regulations have caught it in a nasty spot. I'm not even sure I could be mailed any in a small parcel...

If anyone knows of a US supplier that ~can~ get it across the border, ~please~ let me know?

What is "solder paste"? Does that make the aber kit easier??

WW, I think the multiple sighting wires are a deliberate error - for me!

Erush:

Great pics... I want to tackle my hatches, but want to wait to see if i can get some of that solder-paste...

One odd thing I see... you have sight-wires on ~all~ the cupola slits... not just the front one. Personal choice or honest error?

*sigh*

Well, it begins to get cold, and a give from a friend in Auz finally got me working on my modelling stuff again.

He sent me a Verlinden Panzerschrek unit, and the only part I had difficulty with was the sights. It calls for you to place small PE 'sight' pieces in the sight-frames attached to the launch tube, and first time out, I mucked one up.

Then I remembered that the styrene solvent glue I have dissolves CA... I dropped the mis-glued pieces in the solvent bottle, and about 10 minutes later, fished them out, wiped 'em off and tried again. Got it close enough this time. All I have left is the rear cage on the exhaust vent and paint.

The only mods I made were boring the tube ends out so that it looks less like a rod and more like a proper tube. I may rebuild the box as well... after my Aber Tiger box shows and I get some ammo box experience.

Time to resume Aber assembly, now that my Pershing will soon be in the mail to me... (Kitty-Killer, here I come!)
