WelcomeSmile [:)] You can post your progress right in this thread, you dont have to have to show step by step pictures if you dont want to. So its up to you what you want to do.

As for my building I am going to add in other figure. 1/20 Shiro Amada for Gundam The 8th MS Team, that I got along with my EZ-8 kit

Sign - Welcome [#welcome] taxtp and Historex_Rob!

taxtp your figure lookg good so far.

As FrogFoot said it is not mandatory to post in progress pics, but we are curious and the community could help to fix flaws that might occur as the work proceeds, or just suggest improvements.

Hi,
Thanks for the welcome. I've done the helmet for my German Machine Gunner. It's a highly scuffed, dirty winter white. I want to depict this figure in a dirty, heavily worn way that might indicate a long and difficult retreat on the Eastern front. I'll post pics when I can.
Historex_Rob - I haven't built a historex figures but I've done several of the Airfix 54mm figures over the past few years. They're good fun.

Well, I have just completed the drybrushing on Tamiya's 1/16 modern soldier that I have been working on for the past couple of months.  The only thing remaining should be some minor touch-up work.  My next move will be to figure out how to attach a photo in this response window.  I am noticing that at least on my computer, I am seeing the links not working with "Photobucket" on some of the postings for our group.  I am wondering if there are other ways to insert a photo without the  use of a link.  Let me know what works for others in the group so that I can share this project with all of you.  Thanks in advance,

Hope it's not too late FrogFoot, but I have a walkaround of your armor.

It's displayed in the castle of Ambras in Tyrol, Austria. I was there last week and got some shots for you.

I'll post the pics tomorrow.

Took a bit longer than I had expected, but here is my GB entry,

Latorre’s 54mm 5th Century Celt painted in Andrea/Vallejo acrylics with touches of other brands and some oils as washes.

He started with an off white tunic, but I didn’t like the shading I was getting, so he “changed” to a darker one.

His ankles were particularly thin, which was brought out in a Planet Figure review some months ago. I built them up with Miliput before inserting the brass rods to hold him up.

The review also noted there was more fantasy than strict reality in his outfit.

He does kind of look like a certain Austrian born actor turned governor of a far western state.

In painting the ace, I tried to get a darker palette than I normally use to increase his menacing appearance.

There’s no indication on the box, but Latorre gives the painter the option of the two axes I chose (as is used as the box art) or a shield for the left had. That shield in in the foreground of the base.

Great looking Conan. I actually picked the likeness before I read your comments, which is a credit to you and the sculptor.

Just like taxp, I thought "Dang, another Conan!" looking at the pictures and before reading your post.

Great paint job and I like the two axex version better; it's more warrior-like.
Agree with the persons stating that it has a more of a fantasy flare than an accurate historical representation, but who cares: it is a great build! Thumbs Up [tup]

One thing about the pictures: is it just me or do they have a purple shade? Isn't that more like the real thing?

I think Raul La torre does this a bit. I know his Roman Centurion looks very like Russell Crowe, Maximus from Gladiator. In both cases he has captured the facial features of the actor brilliantly, in this case showcased by a great paint job.

I painted the "Centurian" a couple years ago and had a heck of a time with the face. Seemed not to have any significant planes to work with, very smooth and blandly round. I've seen others, however, do a great job with it.

Great someone dug out this thread again, was starting to think it was dying.

Looks interesting. Green dress and red hair sounds like a valid alternate paint scheme.
Being a knight you could think of some heraldry, but then again where would you place it.

I should make some progress this week end ... if everything works as I planned.

Yeah I wish she had a shield maybe I could use a shield/crest motif for a base

Avus, you beat me to the punch.  I too was wondering if there was anyone still reading this group build's posts.  Nice job so far on the Conan figure.  The detail painting on the clothing looks excellent.  As I stated in another group build, I have been spending a lot of time on my bike lately as I want to ride the equivalent of this years Tour (2272 miles) by September 15.  But back to the importance of building.  Big Smile [:D]

I have completed my figure but still need to work on getting pictures taken and downloaded.  As I do have a couple of vacation days coming up, I should have some extra time to work on that.  Unfortunately for my building, with weather as nice as it has been lately, it is hard to sit at my bench when I can be out on my bike.

Thanks guys!

Dindn't mean to wake you PanzerWulff ... no actually I did! Big Smile [:D]
The figure is 90mm (approx 1/50 scale), it's a little bigger than 54mm and a little smaller than 120mm, but waaaay bigger than you average 25mm Wargame figure.

I hear you More Power Scotty! It's hard to sit at the workbench while your friends and relatives are at the beach.
Hope to see some pics of your work soon.

I finally got a Photobucket account today so attached are a front and back view of my Tamilya figure.  I have not decided on a base yet, so the photos have the figure loosely standing atop an unused DML base.  I need to play around with with lighting, etc. as I can not seem to get a good clear picture.  This was my second attempt, so in the next few days I may try to improve what I have here.  Anyway, if you are visiting our group build this weekend, take a peek and let me know your thoughts.

Thanks PanzerWulff !
I'll be looking out for those characters, but as you say it'll be a hard time finding them.

Looking forward to some more builds, but it looks like this thread is dying, only a few (us two) keep posting.

Avus,

Thanks for the comment.  Sorry for not getting on the thread in a while, but I did not see anything new last week when I was on.  Things have picked up where I work and with one day (actually night) off per week, I am limited as to when I can get some modeling in.  The work getting posted continues to look very good.  I think that during or after this outage I will be looking for a better camera for close up work.  The Kodak does great for general photos, but really leaves something to be desired when it comes to the detail shots.

Once my hours back off again, I may attempt to work on a Horizon vinyl kit of Robocop.  I painted the flesh with Andrea's flesh set that came out a few months ago, and lets just say that using it is a learning process.  I will be stripping off my first attempt and trying again later.  On my previous figures I have used oil paints, so I am accustomed to painting the shadows, blending, and then working in the highlights.  Andrea recommends laying in the highlights after the base coat, and then finishing with the shadows.  I need to work on my mindset with this, again as it goes against what I have done for years.

I will continue to peek in from time to time as I can.
