Well I finally got  a little progress to report. No photos just yet. I am going to salvage two previous Tomcats from Hasegawa that I started a while back. I only have a minimal amount done to them so I can get away with it. I have the back ends started and that is about it. Last week I assembled a couple of cockpits and will get going on the rest of the back ends and the cockpits this week along with assembling the landing gear so I can start some painting. When I have some worthwhile news to report I will. Cheers.

Silentmodeler,

The end results look very good on your project. Thumbs Up [tup]  Those pitot tubes can be frustrating on many aircraft, and I have had to replace some with metal tubing in the past, just for the added rigidity, and because the original one was lost or too badly broken to replace.

Minihasek,

I am looking forward to seeing your project photos.  That is certainly going to be a unique paint scheme once it is completed.

Help needed guys...............

Now I dont normally end up with unused parts, but for the life of me, I can't find a home for these.  I've been through the instructions front to back, and can't see these 12 curved plates used anywhere.  Anyone know what they are ?  I'm building an old Monogram F-14A.

Those are the parts for the GE F110 engine nozzles found on the F-14B and F-14D.  You don't need 'em to build a A--use the ones shown in the instructions.

Nice work silentmodeler! Thumbs Up [tup]  And glad to help with the weapon loads.  The Tomcat turned out nice.  Looks like it is loaded to go open up a can of "Whoop A$$" on the bad guys.

To everyone else, sorry that I have been AWOL of late.  From what I read from everyone not just this GB but on others, most of us seem to have had a case of "life's other priorities" kick us one (or two).  Keep at it guys!  Even if we only get 30 minutes at the bench a week right now, at least we get 30 minutes.

Tell me about it mph34,  I have been working 3 jobs to pay off some debt and it's hard to get some time on the bench.  I am sneaking in time when ever I can.  I was even working on my Phantom today on my lunch break.  No one said being a modeler was goin to be easy.

Hey could I get in with a Hasegawa 1/48 F14A? I just put the seats together last night and have yet to put a drop of paint on anything.

Thanks!

Midnight Storm, why don't you join in the madness?

Ok guys and gals. I finally got startet again last night on my two Hasegawa Tomcats. I assembled two cockpits enough to fill them with putty on the seams and I will sand them today. The fuel tanks and tail fins are also assembled so now I can get going on some more of the assembly. I should have some photos in the next couple of weeks. Sorry its been so long. But other things have taken a front seat. So it is coming. Talk to you all a little later.

Cheers.

Still undecided on paint schemes and markings. If the Sunset GB falls through like I think it will from ARC, my plans will change significantly.

I do have a 1/48th scale Tomcat and decals to finish it off like my friends F-14 from the Black Knights before they retired it, but...

I still need to finish my 1/48 scale F-22A, X-35B, F-15E, SU-27UB, TR-1A, and in 1/72 my P-3B (With lights and turning blades) & EP-3E and in 1/144 my AN-124, C-5B x2, P-3B, KC-135R, KC-10, B-2, F-15E x2, F-15C x2, F-16C, F-16D, F/A-18C, F/A-18 Super Hornet x4, YF-23, F-22A, YF-22 and SU-27.

When I get about half of those completed, THEN can I start on my F-14. Wink [;)]

katootsv2

That is one sweet Cat, what scale is that and what are the markings. I have markings for a CAG jet from VF-51 from Eagle Strike or Aeromaster I forget which one it is. She's sure sitten pretty.

I started again this weekend. I built the three main sections of the wings. Have the fuel tanks already assembled have all three cockpits made just need to finish sanding and then install the center sections, pedals and center console supports. Also this weekend I installed the bladders and on the lower section I installed the main landing gear door walls. I hope to have enough to airbrush by this coming weekend. Then I can start to post some photos next week. I added a third cat. This one is an A. So I will do one of each model. I like to do things in production so I like to do the same thing to mulitple models at once. Cheers. Give you all another update soon.

Silentmodeler, just looking at your images again, it appears you kept the extensions on under the front flaps on the wings. When the flaps were up the extensions were inside the wings not under it. Nice looking cat though regardless.

Sweet deck too. Is that your first one? I still have to try that myself.

Did some more work this morning. Got four sets of front landing gear started. Working on the three that I am doing now and finishing the one I have almost complete. Charging the batteries for my camera so I can post probably tomorrow or Monday.

Working on setting up one day of beginning airbrushing. The cockpit, landing gear, bays engines like I said before. Take care and happy modeling.

Well, long time in coming, but here is a progress pic.

I have some touch up on the black around the cockpit, and some touch up of grey here and there.  The Yellow on the tail fins need a bit of touch up as well.  Need some more white touch up on the Phoniex and Sidewinder missles.  Need to get the 'RIO' seated and the canopy installed as well.

The biggest challenge yet is the display stand that I want to build (gear up).

I agree i always have to many kits on my work bench but it works better that way. It give you time to think about the next step.

so keep more than 4 going always

mph what set of decals are those. That bird looks great. Looking good.

I worked on the landing gear yesterday, should have those assemblies set by today or tomorrow. Depending on how things go. Wanted to post by now, but I have nothing worth posting.

I'll be in touch.

I have decided I don't like the Hasegewa kit. There are some fit issues I'm having and there was one step the instructions were grossly wrong but a few other steps they were very vague. Some parts don't have a way of lining up properly. I think I'm going to just try to bang this one off. I'll try to get some pics tomorrow.

Just be patient Max. That is a tricky kit. Just keep your wits about you and stay calm and focused. You'll get it done. Try treating it as several smaller kits. Just work it out. You'll be fine.

Gah I know. The intakes have a terrible fit. The design is awkward. I have CA on the ready for the huge seams in the inside of those intakes.

Partly I'm anxious to start my 1/32 Academy F/A18, so I'm easily loosing patience.

I am using the Eagle Stike Productions for VF-21, Dec. '95 cruise.  I am thinking I might use part of the VF-32 decals that came with the sheet for my 'what if - IDF' plane.  Though I might not get to that one till late summer.

The biggest hold-up on this bird is the display stand.  I haven't given it much detail thought yet.  Maybe with the holiday this week, I can take some time off and get to it.
