USAF 60th Anniversary Group Build--(non-aircraft subjects allowed)

Will I would like to enter in a Testors 1/48 SR-71A BlackBird, I read some stuff about the kits cockpits.  Parts of the airplane remained a secret and their product is just  an "educated guess", I heard this about the some of the part.

As I said in the SAC thread, great build!

Here's an F-106 update. Finished the pit the other night, but the instrument panel decal didn't lay down completely, even after some decal set. I'm going to test fit it withthe canpy on and see how visible it will be, then decide whether to strip it off an use paint.

Next step is to put the fuselage together. 

The finished result of the crane and support teams done last night. I hope that you all like it. As always comments good and bad welcome.

I hope to have this thing done today.The size is 26 inches long and 25 inches wide. Not for sure how tall yet.

I still haven't dug out my model yet, because I have to complete another model first. But I promise I WILL FINISH my Pavehawk for this build!

For better of worse, heres the F-82.

Please believe all the bad reviews of these kits.

The flash is very heavy, throughout.

The overall molding is VERY thick.

The parts don't lineup very well, and the gaps were custom made for superglue.

And the whole exterior needs to be sanded smooth, because of the terrible molds that leave unusual patterns in the plastic. I only hope it will start to look like somewthing with some primer on it.

Update...last night I did some touchup work on the 'pit, but most of my time was spent taking 8 or 10 parts off the sprue and prepping them. This includes the refueling receptacle, from which I removed the vanes. The bird I'm building is the 1962 Castle AFB bird with the bright yellow vertical stab, and they didn't have air-to-air refuel capability back then. I'm going to build up putty on it until it matches the contour of the fuselage. I'll admit that my bird will not be quite authentic because some of the necessary mods (like taking the Infrared sight out of the cockpit) are a little dicey at my skill level, but I'm following the mods Pat Hawkey made to his 1963 speed record jet in the October '05 FSM as closely as I can while still feeling confident that I'll have a nice looking bird when I'm done.

This one's going to be given as a gift when she's finished (and the recipient is not exactly a rivet-counter), so cosmetics will have to win out anytime there's a conflict.

Now that I've won my ebay auction, and the decals have arrived I can announce that my Deuce will be in the markings of the 64th Fighter Interceptor Squadron, based at Paine Field, Everett, WA around 1961.

If I screw up those decals (I give it 3 in 7 odds!) I'll do the other set: 460th FIS, Portland, OR., c. 1958-66.

Hey everyone, sorry I haven't responded here for a while. My A-10 is coming along quite slowly. I've been trying to AB my F-106 but I keep running into trouble with my airbrush. First the paint wasn't thin enough, then it was too thin, then I have no idea what happened and almost smashed the thing against a wall. I must hone my paint thinning skills.

I'm almost done sanding the A-10's subassemblies. There's just a few small huge gaps. i'll definitely work on it tomorrow if we have a snow day. (Yes, I am a minor in 8th grade ) We're pretty much getting snowed in here so I think i can count on it. Woot!

 Right back, 'atcha, bud.  I was all set to do something up for the vet's GB, and realized I didn't actually drive or maintain anything that was model-able!  I could give shots with the best of 'em though... and if a 1/48 nursing cart or a scanning electron microscope should come out, I'll be right on top of those!

Should have some clarity on the markings for my F-102 soon, depending on how I do at an ebay decal auction.  Stay tuned.

Ha!  If only!  My mispent youth was spent in green as a reserve Army Reserve med-tech, 1989-99!  My screenname is only a general synopsis of my interest in modeling...

I've got an F-102A I'd love to see in this one.  Have not decided on what markings to throw on her, looks like there's a few more choices now than there used to be.

My dio will be representing a scene that I saw on a picture: the "aftermath" of a successful rescue in 2003 of a downed A-10 pilot over Baghdad. It shows a Pavehawk in the background and two PJs accompanying the rescued pilot.

Here's the status I promised:
