Love the generally battered look, suits the beast.

Telsono, Hauler do a conversion set for the UC, to tourn it into a late war Panzerjaeger, with panzerfaust racks etc.

Hi all,

It's time for me show you my project.  

My first impress when I opened the box was to thinh how it's bad to get this die cast chassis.

 Well, after doing my 6  sets of wells , I've added those 2 plastic strips. It will be very usefull to hide the tracks that could be seen through the turret !!!

The rear panel was a little bit....rough ! I've made a new grid and added those 4 little strips. 

The driving post was just a little bit detailled because whit the upper hull we can't see many thing inside.

  I have the same issue with the Firefly and will be putting strips on the underside of the upper hull. Nice to see a build! On a different note, does anyone have a source for 1/48 British tank crew figures?

Track48 is a good source for 1/48 armor products in general.

Tamiya has a British infantry set that acutally includes 4 tankers I believe.

waikong.......sorry to be a pain but can I change my entry,I'v just recieved my HobbyBoss 1/48 T 34/85 and it's just crying out to be built.It's a great kit for the money and comes with a full interiour which seem's very detailed.

Which colour should be the ground of the TD M10, black or OD ? I found both on different pics !!!!

I'm talking about the combat post not the driving compart .

 It's official!My wife walked in while I was taking the pictures and has declared me insane :). I couldn't resist the temptation to build the turret and gun, will probably regret this when I start filling seams. The white cube is an equipment box that may or may not find a home on the Firefly. Also a couple of shots of my attempts to seal up the openings between the upper and lower hulls. Any tips or comments? (go easy on the rookie please)

Comet, No problem - I've made the change. I also have that kit and am also dying to build it, but that full interior is going to take me a while to finish. Looking forward to your pictures.

EnamouredwithArmour, looking good. I'm doing the Sherman and did basically the samething you did in closing up open areas.

In a hurry to get my washes to dry I pulled my work light down closer to my KV-1 to aid the process.

And melted the top of the turrent.

Nice.

Guess I need to knock off of the kit until AFTER the superbowl is over.

As for your question about the floor of the fighting compartment I only came across them being painted in olive drab when I was researching the same thing for my Achillies.......seeing as they are pretty much the same vehicle I'd go with OD on your M10. 

Pierre, that's some great looking work on the M-10, I love what you are doing with the fighting compartment it looks excellent.  I can't wait to see the turret.

Dave, I don't know what you are worried about the Firefly looks just fine to me.  Aside from the crew are you going to add anything else to the kit, such as one of Hauler's PE sets?

Hkshooter sorry to hear about your KV-1, was it a total write-off or can you salvage it with some sanding?

Progress wise on the Pershing things are going well, with the build on the hull and the turret complete.  I've still got the running gear to do but that shouldn't take long and then it's off to the paint shop.

I had to rip off the top of the turrent, remove the melted portion. Cleaned up the opening and what was left of the top then made a piece to fill in what had to be removed. Reinstalled and puttied to gaps.

Ok, a couple of shots of the KV-1.

First, I'm no armor modeller. Most of what I see in or on a tank I have no idea what it is so be gentle on accuracy.

Next, the top of the turrent is no longer a factory part. See above. Hence most of the detail has been replaced with scratch built stuff. The round funny thing that goes on the top front of the turrent is not there because I havent figured out how to make one yet.

But, here is Tamiya's 1/48 KV-1. Paint is Tamiya acryls. Weather is MIG pigments and oils. Strangely, most of it does not show well in the photos. Maybe I have to much light on it.

Thanks for the thumbs up, Darren. I don't have definite plans for extras on the build. There are a lot of firsts happening on this model: First model in about 10 years, first model with any scratchbuilt parts, first model to be painted with an airbrush, first model to be painted with acrylic paints, and the list seems to go on and on. To tell the truth, I'm amazed by how much "stuff" is available for model building now!

Hkshooter the KV looks great .  Can you tell me what TAM paint you used for the Russian Green because it looks really good.  Also how did you paint the tracks, sorry to ask but I'm always interested in other modelers armor techniques.

Dave for someone building there first kit in 10 years you sure are doing a nice job of it. I know what you mean about a lot of stuff being available now though, I came back into the hobby about 5 years ago and was just blown away by the amount of AM gear that I never would have dreamed off back when I was younger.  Good luck with the airbrushing by the way.

The paint on the KV-1 is Tamiya XF-61 Dark Green.

And now, flat coat still wet, here is Tamiya 1/48 early Sherman. This one gave me no problems nor did I create any on my own. YEA! Lovely kit, I really like these small armor kits. They give a true sense of scale to my favored aircraft models.

This one is painted with MM enamels, primarily olive drab. Fading was done with a little flat white added to the OD. Chips and scratches are Tamiya XF-10 Flat brown, which to me looks more like red brown than the red brown does.

Wanting to answer a question for Darson.

The tracks are painted flat black then dry brushed with XF-16 to show wear and XF-64 red brown for rust. A spattering of MIG russian earth pigment and a coat of Polyscale flat finish them.

Piwi, great work on the interior.  The details are looking good.

HK, good work saving the turret on the KV.  The finish on the Sherman looks very sharp.

hkshooter, you're really cranking them out! The sherman rust areas are very convincing.

I'm making some headway on my sherman, got the bottom part down and now finishing up on the photoetch stuff on top. The big question is whether to open the turrent hatch, and if so, how much interior stuff I need to scratch build to make it look 'correct'.  I'm trying to see if I can get away with just the commander seat.

Although I did not have a chance in the past, I think nothing better than to join to your 1/48 Armor GB to become an active member of FSM comunity.

I am plannig to make very soon one Sd.Kfz 247 using a new GasoLine resin conversion for the Tamiya Krupp Protze and would be my pleasure to share it with you all here. What do you think?.

Thanks for the info on the Hauler products. I put in an order for the set you mentioned plus one other. The outside storage boxes would go along with my intended build.

As for the driver, I have a Tamiya figure from the Me-262 kit that seems to have the correct position. That would be easier than converting one of the British figures.

hkshooter: nice pics, really like the Sherman.

 For me, it's been another week of interesting firsts and thankfully I have no pictures to prove it.  Apparently newbies should not be allowed to use contour putty without supervision (or at least without reading the forums beforehand). I believe I've managed to sand out the majority of my stupidity.

 Then I decided that I should probably have a guinea pig project to try my airbrush on. A right thinking person would buy something with large flat surfaces to experiment on. I can't explain how I ended up with a 1/72 Panzer IV.... but I did.

 On a related note, did you know that a  1 oz/ 30 mL bottle of liquid cement, if tipped over, will completely saturate the sports section of the local newspaper, eat the grid lines off your self healing cutting mat, pit the vinyl handles of your files, and leave quite the stink in your workroom?

 On the up side, I've ordered the crew for the Firefly and am just about ready for paint on the hull and turret , which brings me to a question.

 I intend to have the hatches for the driver, commander, and loader all open and occupied by crew. Would the wise and prudent among you:

a) spray the hatches while they are still on the sprue and wait for the figures before attaching them, or

b) say it doesn't matter, glue them in place, and spray them with the rest of the hull and turret. 

 I know this may seem like a daffy question but I'm in awe of the work I've seen on this and other sites.

I would spray them on the sprue first. But that's just me, I've seen people who glue everthing together then spray & paint.

As for the liquid cement, been there - so I know the feeling.
