Sorry for the abscense fellows! Been working like a scaulded dog! Sean the Pepsi is looking fine!  I have been squeezing in stuff on the coke little by little.  I cut away some of the control surfaces. Not nearly all of them. The Curved Gull wing and old thick plastic would really make it impossible with out replacing things with resin flaps!  I have the In action book and been looking at the pics really caefully. Seems the hanging flaps were more common during in flight pics on the earlier F4U-1A  pics while on the ground in the Marine birds there is a more suttle stick tied down to the right look. In contrast the later Navy birds seem to have the hanging flaps more commonly seen. At least in this book.  In any case I think it will be plenty acceptable to go with the more suttle look and keep it simpler without having a completely straight  look to the control surfaces.

The parked F4U-1A's seem to be almost parked in a standard stick tied to the right where the F4U-4 Are almost all shown with flaps down. Notice the exhaust stains as well on the -4. Looks like Yours Sean!

Then there is my little Girl. Freshman Princess! Dee is Chapperoning!

She has been practicing on the Mail Men! Whistling [:-^]

Wow! Looks like I'm not the only one who'sn been AWOL! Looks like I'll be having some company swabbing the decks here.....Pirate [oX)]Wink [;)]

Sorry for my unexpected absence! Sufficed to say that business is definately booming, and my ever changing work schedule has been quite a trip. This is actually the first time I've had to actually get on here and post (nevermind eating, sleeping, etc). But despite my absence here and at the bench, I've got nothing to complain about! After all, I sure could use the extra income from the overtime. But I severely owe you guys progress pictures, and I haven't forgotten that.

But seeing how I missed my rum rations, I guess I'll go grab a mop and bucket, and give Aaron a hand...Blush [:I]

Warmest regards,

Roger

Ha thanks Ritchie! You guys  know that is really only my sons airsoft sniper rifle. Looks intimidating except for the bright red tip. LOL Most it will do is shoot through a paper target or knock over a pop can in the back yard. Good for teaching steady hold shootng skills but not for killing anything cept maybe a spider or bug.  Everything on it the scope and mechanism is like the real thing so it is a safe trainer for him. Blindfold [X-)]

I'm back at the F4U-1A Revell 1/32 circa 1970 re release 1976 Black Sheep version.

Bondo this one doesn't have any of those infamous moving parts. IE landing gear , flaps extc. This is the Coke I think your thinking of the Pepsi if I recall correctly! Laugh [(-D] The wing fold was about it and it didnt look right or work well.

She is begining to come together and look the part! Thumbs Up [tup]

Challenging to get a perfect fit but getting there! You can see the Wheel wells and all the details I added where none was before. All made from kit sprue and card stock with the wing fold parts I didn't use.

Need to start reworking and detailing the gear and  gear doors. Very time consuming but what the hey? then a litle canopy work and masking and shazam! Ready for the Airbrush!

Het does anyone know what that little rectancular cut out is on the one wing?  It is on both the top and bottom so you can see clean thru it?  Nothing in the instructions about it and I see no pics of it?  Why would there be a rectancular hole cut thru one wing?

You can see it on the lower wing flap in this pic? Odd?

That's a good question, Aaron. I hate to make light of the situation, but last time I saw him he was pukin' over the rail of a Turkish Sambuk while a gypsy rubbed his shoulders, time before that he was my gunner in the little incident with the herd of goats and the machine gun, time before that I threw him out the door of the Noratlas over Beirut, but earlier I don't remember. There was the little dustup in the bar in Marseilles with my friends from the Foreign Legion, really I have two, but he held his liquor and gave better than he took.

Nam buddy I am about to get big time into the Supercat, I rented "Always" again and have all of the details pat.

Hey I'm still waiting for CAG, YES YOU DARREN, to make a final ruling on Coastal Command, because if you favor it, I've got the build in mind.

Frank,

even though the Sunderlands were RAF birds, they did work very closely with the Navy, if you want to build one, go for it!  Coastal Command were RAF, however they worked along side the RN, and near as, did the same jobs-why not include them? As for merchant Navy, you have me there! My guess is if its British and naval-then it counts!

What I'm saying is, as long as you're sticking to FAA, or its associated units...Coastal Command etc. then go ahead and build the model you want. Remember, its all about having fun around here.Approve [^]

Bondo! If ye scan back about 10 pages or so ye find this wee quote from the CAG!  I see you keep inquiring about this subject but forsuth and odds bodkins the man is busty er busy  recruiting new...er...... talent.Pirate [oX)]

Aaron - Dee , THat Wildcat is Top Notch. I am shocked the wings work, as we they not a bit fiddly ?  The tires are even flattened - resin or the good old method of heating them ? This should be submitted to "Readers Gallery" as you never see pics of old kits let alone one done up this nice. Thumbs Up [tup]

Thanks, Rich! I'm glad I've been able to check in here too. I've missed you'se guys! Still having internet connection issues at home, so I'm checking in at a computer from work (yep, I'm working weekends). The downside is that any pictures posted, I can't view. So, I'll have to do some more backtracking nonetheless...

The overtime is definately good. I do feel guilty though since I haven't been at the bench in a couple of weeks. The Super Hornet is really giving me the sad, puppy dog eyes, but if all goes well I'll be able to get some time in on wednesday (my "saturday").

As for Nam, well, there's another mop and bucket in the closet. He's welcomed to help with swabbin this deck, XO! Just a thought...Wink [;)]

Warmest regards,

Roger

Oh dear a whole nudder week with out my favorite target!?!?!?! I can always count on him to take the worst and be a good sport about it! Probably cuz he be to drunk to remember! Last time Bondo Peed in his rum cup I can remember him saying something about being Dave's fault and he drank it anyways. Sed it was more stout than the torpedo juice over in the PBY zone.

On or about 1 March? Sounds like he is mailing himself back to us parcel post!

Sean We had fun with the Wildcat. I Was able to adjust the folding wing parts so the wings would really snap in place pretty tight. The Corsair was simpler. ( Just a hinge) but it left a noticable gap in the upper side of the wings? No real way to snug em up so I just ignored it as it seems the other fellows on those links I posted did.  Not too worried about it. I just remember the drooping wings of another 1/32 Corsair.

Me thinks the CAG has gone off to search for the poor dishelved Nammy! Darren being the self sacrificing kinda bloke he is. Seems to have grabbed a rum barrel or six and set sail in a dingy the direction in which the note from the bottle had come!  I remember when last time he and I embarked on such an adventure. We awoke to a large pile of bikini's and no recollection of what happened? Laugh [(-D]Pirate [oX)]

I musta overslept? Everyone went to look for Nam I guess?

Sean we smished those Wildcat wheels on a regular old clothing iron!  Makes a good look without resin and drilled in the bolt holes on the wheel covers a bunch of little stuff that made a big visual difference.

I have been playing with paint colors today. Hard to get the blues to register on the camera together but just experimenting a bit.

The dark blue paint was real thin. I had a time controlling it then I realized I had the wrong nozzle on my AB. Had the high flow future one . OOPS!  Well there is always fun with the touch up!

The Blue color lloks light in the pics. Look at the bottom compared to the white and the color shows a bit better. It is the same as the wing tips.

Well now that I have the right nozzle on I can tough things up. Got the canopy glass drying from the future dip. Almost forgot about it.

Aaron - Code name Coke  is almost done Shock [:O] I have barely gotten started.. I have spent the morning filing off molded ridges and bumps out of the pit area. (gotta get that Dremel fixed) Once I got a smooth surface I made a template out of a post-it note then transfered it to styrene. And even then more fine tuning was needed.

Where is Frank  and Charlene ? I believe their services will be needed real soon after this picture gets posted.

Pepsi 8What have I gotten myself into again Whistling [:-^] Oh and that Huge slot for the canopy to slide in - well I believe it will get some styrene also to narrow it down.

Last I saw of Frank he was running for the border with angry RA villagers chasing him with torches and pitchforks!  He was heading for the old windmill!

Your Pepsi is looking very cool!  I can't live without my dremel especially if there is resin involved!

I'm letting the paint dry and gaining motivation to take on the undercarrage. Need to find some of Frank's old pics on how he wires his brakes. I don't think the Marine Aircraft had the arrester hooks being land based and saving some weight.  Pity Frank does some spectacular work with those. Adds springs and the lot. Ah I am sure there will be other Corsairs in my Future!

Changed my nozzel and touched it up and followed the guide a bit closer. Looks pretty cool. Pics soon!
