CAG! intrigueing bit of info about your Corsair.. Hmmmmm

Frank dag burn it! I looked at your perfect little engines and realized I had made a mistake on mine. Blame the lack of sleep but pretty sure it was Dave's fault.

Anyways I spent most of the bench time today rewring and adding stuff. Gotta work out the new camera settings but here is what I got so far....

Added all the push rods and doubled the wires. Put the silver cross over ones on the right places.

paintem up.

Kinda dark huh?

Well I'd say it is nearly there.

CAG,

Lovely job on the Gunfighter, and thanks for the inclusion on the dedication.

Aaron,

Haven't thought about Baa Baa Black Sheep in a long time, nice work on the model.  You gonna make it to the contest in San Antonio this Saturday (which happens to be my birthday)?

Ack I'll be working Lewbud! Boohoo [BH] Wish I could!  Happy B-day though! Should be a blast!  I enjoy the river walk although a bit touristy it is fun.  The Alamo is always a fun stop. But models? What a great B-day!

Johnny so glad you made it! I thought the weather or worse had got ya! (Dee)

Last pic of this engine I promise before it has a prop on it!  Iwanted to display the cowling flaps open but there was no back to it? So I simply added the kit parts. The center ring and the backside+ exhaust and it mounts perfectly like it belongs! Hurray!

Frank the engines are looking great.

Aaron, I built the exact same kit back in 1994.  Mine doesn't look as good as yours does so far.

Nice piece of Pratt there. ye scurvy rat! One thing you can do, since the flaps kind of have to be open on a Corsair unless it's flying; this is my technique at 1/72 when viewed from 6 feet away.

Grind the flaps down a little so that they're smaller in diameter than the cowl. and make a nice deep cut at their front edges and shave the old flaps even more like a cone towards the front. Yeah, Frank is sitting somewhere reading right now and wondering why his stomach is upset!

Then do a little math, calculate the circumference of the cowl and cut a strip of aluminum from a soda can. Get out your trusty calipers and figure out the length (s) of the flaps. Chop through the metal at regular intervals, leaving a tiny bit connected along one edge. Then superglue the whole arrangement around the groove and when its almost set, bend them open.

Aaron, may I just take this opportunity to say tahnks you for being such a incredibly generous and talented modeler-your skill and knowledge are ledgend here in Europe and the Royal Family often refer to your adventures when entertaining heads of state. You are the best of the best and the universe would spontaneous combust if you were not the great human being you are. Thank you, O master of the universe.

Oh boy...... Blush [:I]  Darren I have been trying to get Dee to say that for over 22 years now.  Evil [}:)] She's asleep so at least I have until morning before she reads that. Maybe I should put the kibosh on her computer?  I'll never hear the end of that. LOL Big Smile [:D]  Could be worse I suppose you all could be referring to me as lower than salamander poop on the bottom of an ant's foot.

Thanks all for the compliments ...... I think.  Pirate [oX)]

Roy isn't that just as nostalgic as smacking the wife's behind during the Sunday Serman? It's not the newest most awe inspiring kit but the cool factor of holding and building a kit I had at age 10 is just off the scale for me!

Bondo! Ye scoundral of the Italian Boot!  Which way is starboard?  Left I think.. anyways I read an article about this fellow who really did this kit up. Added all kinds of stuff and scratched a bunch. A real stellar job and he did just as you suggested.  This kit comes with the flaps molded in the open position already. I pondered the idea of redoing them as they are a little off in the proper count.  What I decided was not to deviate too much from the original look but to enhance what existed. I thinned down and opened what was there. Then I heard that voice in my head... Do this ... add this.... make it look like this....  I was kinda spooked out!  But then I noticed a Wisconsin License plate out front and remembered Frank has been MIA all day.

So coping Franks steller Corsair work I added some scratch made actuators and pullys out of Scrap Photo etch frets and stretched sprue.

Also  used some staight pieces to place in the cowling to give the illusion of a support on each side.  How Frank did this in 1/48 and drill holes and thread it evenly is still one of the universe's greatest mysteries. Approve [^]

The inside of the cowling was painted the underside color in most F4U-1A's so no zinc interior green whatever there. I purposely let accelerator run to give a dirty look and a little weathering prior to attaching. Well maybe not on purpose but I am not to worried about it. Blush [:I]

While lacking the finesse and precision of Frank's incredible efforts it doesn't look too terrible and will be very visable for a change. Kinda nice when you think about how long it takes. That's one of my goals , to worry about what you can see! Thumbs Up [tup]

Darren, I must give you a heart felt THANK YOU for dedicating your gunfighter build to the GB!!!!! When the leadership thinks of the team like that, that is how the leader is followed!!!!! I tip my hat to you and everyone on this thread for making it the best!!!!! I am really touched by your geneourosity!!!!Make a Toast [#toast] Oh, Darren, can you shed some light on the Hobbycraft SeaFury????? That was what I was planning on doing for the next FAA GB. Yes chaps, I do have a few 1/48's in my stash!!! Thinking about doing it OOB but, if I see AM parts that might change lol.

Aaron, my good man, You have brought back so many memories with that kit!!!!! I have actually built two of them!!!! The first was at the age of ten as well!!! Had to get it done!!!!! There were Zeros to shoot down!!!!!!, The second was at the age of about 15 I'd say. Same story, but better built, There was now the 1/32 Zero to shoot down boxed from the show as well!!!!! Still have prop and engine from Corsair in parts box at mum and dads!!!Great looking build so far and Thanks for the trip down memory lane!!!

Aaron haven't had much time lately.  Just got back from a Cub Scout camping trip.  I just need someone to lengthen the day so I have more time to model.

Aaron- Now THAT is some damned fine work to be sure!  I don't think I ever built that big Revell kit, but you are really whipping that kit into shape.  Well done!  Glad I could help in some small way.

Richie,

you're welcome mate! As for the HC Seafury, be prepared to be disappointed-it is not a nice kit. If you want my advice, buy the the Trumpeter version! However, if like me you would rasther have a crack at an old kit, then here's the skinny........nothing fits! The cockpit is hopeless, and the plastic warps real easy.

You were warned........................Wink [;)]

I hope you have better luck than I did old chum!Big Smile [:D]

Oh been a lazy rainy day here.  Got the going back to work blues and took some good long naps. Didn't do much modeling today sadly except work on the exhaust. This was the kit exhaust. What are those things in between landing lights? Looks like 3 buttons in a row.

I simply cut out the shapes of the the ? exhaust pipes port access exit hole thingies I guess.Confused [%-)]

Got some plastic tubeing. I used plastic cuz it smooches easy and can be thinned so not to look so thick walled. Easy to cut glue extc. I saw an excellant looking Moskit exhaust. Cost over $30 bucks ACK! That's another whole model or so! Shock [:O]

Like I said lazy day . Do you think it's any better?  Are those landing lights gotta check my refs...  Thanks for the comments guys!

If you notice the evil smiley in my sig! I am being punished... Frank's idea! and creation!

Aaron- Funny you mention those... all of my references either don't say what they are, or the one I use most says they "are believed to be oil drains".  How's that?  Sorry, best I could do. Sigh [sigh]  Great idea on the exhaust, MUCH better IMHO! Approve [^]

As for your sig, I love it!
