Thanks a 1/72 Sea Fury! Got it and it looks like it's gonna be a great addition to the fleet! Thumbs Up [tup]

Oh finally got enough rest to catch up on my reading here.

Sean that engine looks top notch!  Wow  there must be a load of detail in that Gladiator!  6mm exhaust thingies. Wow now that sounds like fun! Dead [xx(]

Lewbud that is a 1/48 Special Hobby Fairey Albacore. Took on something a wee bit challenging!

Big plane this pic gives an idea of the actual size!

New Hampshire, I thought I took a pic of the engine but must have deleted it somehow. Already have it closed up in the cowling but I found this one in the review. Sorry bout that but hopefully you can see what is offered in the kit with this pic.

Bondo! You look great in your video!  Did you get a haircut? Me too!  I woke up this AM  and looked at my mess of hair and buzzed it all off! Missed a spot in the back and looked like Yule Brenner in the Ten Commandments! Dunce [D)]Laugh [(-D] Dee woke up and fixed it for me now!  So I am buzzed !  Flash backing to 2 questions you had. The Bananna on the vickers is a brass ejection chute.  The roundral question with the yellow out line such as on the KingFisher is not an indicator of allied operators but more of a time frame that insignia was used.  Just as in US Navy National markings  and how they changed 4 times. from Pearl Harber to the wars end. If all goes as planned with my builds I should get a couple of different FAA roundrals to really get ya good and confused! Make a Toast [#toast]

Everyone thanks for the encouraging compliments... You are very kind. I haven't been able to tackle the rigging just yet. Clean up of the smaller parts are tedious but I'm getting there.

Trying for a 1940 Battle of Britian scheme. An option in the kit but not the box art with the Dwarf Nose art. That is from 1944.

Got a torpedo in the making! Crew is resin copies of various figures that were made to fit. The Tamiya Swordfish crew was too large. A shame as they have cool action poses!

The scheme is a little tricky to paint. 4 colors. Lots of masking and I chose to get most of it out of the way before I attach the top wing for obvious reasons.  Still I managed to overspray sky on the black underside but I fixed it quickly!

This particular Aircraft was used to attack German E-boat raiders in the channel so has a cool history in the Battle of Britian. No radar as it was 1940 so I may save those for the PBY GB if we ever locate the MIA crew fellows. Mischief [:-,]

Thanks for peeking in and keep up the great stuff! Bow [bow]Pirate [oX)]

Bondo you looking good mate!!! Cheers to you as well!!!!Make a Toast [#toast]

Aaron, she's looking good!!!!! ehh overspray, least of our worries!!!Wink [;)]

Way off the subject of FAA but within modeling lol, I found the SprueCutters.com website with excellent tutorial videos for experienced andnovice alike. There is also a gallery with finished models. I looked at the 1/72 F-15C and was pleasantly surprised to see 83-017 modeled!!!! This was the ONLY F-15 from Langley AFB to claim a kill, and it was also one that I had the pleasure of working on when it came through Robins AFB, GA for overhaul about 7+ years ago. I have kept a few of the metal parts tags we used to keep track of removed parts, and found the one for 83-017.

Just thought I would share that with you guys!Make a Toast [#toast]

I really suggest watching the post shading video on SprueCutters, the trick of loosening the crown cap and pulling the trigger to mix your paintin th ecup works like a champ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup] And the pics,

I intend on getting this thing done by the contest less than a month awqay and entered. I don't care whether I win ANYTHING, just the fact that I will be entering my first Aussie contest and that I finished will be reward enough!!! Thanks for looking!! Enjoy!

Wow Ritchie that  Swordfish is looking grand!  I am sure you will get it done by show time!Bow [bow]Party [party]

I had to hollow out the exhaust on the Albacore as well. For being such a detailed interior the exterior is somewhat lacking the same attention? Confused [%-)]

Today was a masking and painting day!  One massive masking mess of tape and a blur of paint! Shock [:O]

Got the base coat on everything just a few details and touch ups to go.  May fade the grays just a touch to soften the contrast just a wee bit. Flat black bottom. Sky mid rift and tail fin and Dark Slate Gray over extra dark sea gray was the calling. So that is what I used! Wink [;)]

The Big Green house turned out well. A few touch ups on the tail and the  hard painting is done.

Have to add a little redbrown color to get the dirty penny color on the cowling front and exhaust a little rusty with some burnt sienna with details such as the lights and such to be done. Waiting to attach the final antennas and mounting stirrups extc until I tackel the rigging.

No rigging diagram or parts are given so I have been collecting pics of the real Aircraft and the box art seems accurate as well.

It is going well and turning out pretty nice. Used the double action Airbrush on all the large surfaces and have a really smooth finish. Blue painters tape for the large masking and Tamiya tape on the green house which I covered again with paiters tape to protect my work.

Speaking of work I have to go do that again tonight! Boohoo [BH] Guess I had better take my nap!  Se Y'all tomorrow! Thumbs Up [tup]

Aaron, your really loving your building at the mo. I can tell. Thats how i get sometimes. Your fast, my freind, but the qualities still there. Fantastic work on the paint. Shes looking great. The greenhouse looks like it was a challenge. Was it a mask kit or did you do manually?

Uh, I guess I had been a bit deep inna rum locker, because the Beaufighter has transmogrified in to a B-17E, which fortunately is in CC service.  How do it do that?  I'll do that Beau yet, though.  And that is no Beau Jest, mateys.

B-17 werk.  This is the Academy 1/72 B-17E Fortress II Coastal Command kit.  It sure looks small next to the Revell 1/48 B-17F hanging above my desk.  1/72 may be 2/3 the span of a 1/48 kit, but it must be about 1/2 the volume.  But where would I keep all those Forts I want to build if I build them all in 1/48?

The fit is pretty good in this model.  The nose needs a little tweaking to fit the perspex, I sanded down the edge of the clear part a little, and added a little epoxy filler on the bottom of the nose to fair it in.  the wing fit is goofy, like they couldn't make up there minds where to set the dihedral.  I took a gross rasp and removed material on the fuselage to tighten the fit and reduce the dihedral some, and filled the remaining gaps with more epoxy putty.  The seats add interest with the yellow life vests and Royal Air Force stenciling.  Although I have no idea whether the airplane I am modelling had the remote belly turret or not, I modified the ball turret by using its base ring and adding more epoxy putty, and when cured filed, sanded, and dremeled it to look the part.  I found a clear part to use for the observation blister in the spares box and put that on, and also cut in the lower side windows by the observation blister.  I'll put crystal clear there after the painting.

Bombs Away!!

The Fortress IIA was the RAF version of the B-17E of which there were 45 aircraft with markings of (FK184 to FK213) and (FL449 to FL460) and (FL462 to FL464).

206 Squadron history

Well chosen Mr. Eaton. Would she be having the nose perspex painted over?

Oh no, it will be clear.  I had not seen any that were painted over.  Have you?  Going to have to do a lot of little tiny frames on this one.  I don't know what the corresponding serials were to the British numbers.  Only the early E's had the remore turret.  I am probably better off not having the facts.

Is it Mothers day already? Geez, im always late to the party. HAPPY MOTHERS DAY DEE!!!

Too many shrooms i tells ya.

John, the fort is coming along amazingly. I hope you high ceilings as youll be bashing your head all over with all the beasts hanging from it.

What is it with this GB that everyone is building so fast and not scrimping on quality.

Dee, i reckon you should be using Sargeant Slavechild a bit more as he seems to have an obscene ammount of bench time. You should be calling out for more footrubs and back massages. Hope your feeling better BTW.

There be some fine work happening mateys!  Here be a quick update from me too.  Not much has been done since I was away most of the weekend backpacking, so.....

I think the body has finished giving me it's worst.  She is all buttoned up, and the wings are together and are ready to be stuck on.  The intakes are also a source of annoyance.  The vent scribe lines are extremly light and non distinct.  I am scribing them deeper so they will take a pin wash better and look more crisp.  Here be the pic:

Brian and John, nice work.  Look forward to more.  Aaron, got the rigging done yet?  Changing my build.  Gonna build the Revell/Germany Merlin HMA.1 in the tiger stripe scheme.  Will have to find the build up article in the FSM library.  Wish Revell/Germany would list paints other than their own.

Started the Merlin earlier today.  From what I've read this may be a rebox of the Italeri kit.  The fuselage is in 6 pieces, 4 if you don't count the folding tail halves.  Glued the corresponding sides together (don't why they couldn't have molded them as one piece).  Thinking I could improve the fit, I gently sanded the edge of the midsection-didn't work seam is a little uglier now.  Left the other side alone, not that bad a seam.  Glued the sponsons together, they're a three piece bad dream each.  The fit is better if you glue the bottom of the sponson on first and then the top-if you do it in reverse it really stinks.  Got the cockpit bulkheads assembled and the sonar operators station together.  Got the torps together, they were the best fitting thing yet. Am thinking about getting the PE set from Eduard, once buttoned up though you see much.  Gonna get somewhat presentable and go eat some Mexican.  Will post pics when I get back.
