Alright fellas, I'll take the reins for a USN/USMC GB sometime next year if that's alright with everyone.  Perhaps late spring?  Just a thought...

Great job on the Dauntless Darren Thumbs Up [tup].

Hope you recover soon from the Chicken Pox. Nasty as an adult, but the worse thing is the virus stays in your system even after recovery.  It may stay dormant, but it can come back as Shingles.  I had the Pox when I was around 5, but 60 years later it got me again as Shingles.  Spread into my left eye & if it weren't for some modern miracle drugs, at $500 USD for a weeks supply over a 3 month period,  I would have lost my sight in that eye.  Still lost 20% vision in that eye due to scarring on the Cornea.

Regards,  Rick

Guys,

a quick heads-up. Like Roy said earlier we need more folks for our group Christmas gift exchange. We are a tight group and it would be cool to do something for each other at that special time of year. So if you are interested please PM our resident "special ops planner" Roy with  your details.

Thanks!!Thumbs Up [tup]

Roger,

glad you found your gunner before my shore patrol did!Pirate [oX)] Your build looks like its coming along nicely from where I'm standing.Thumbs Up [tup]

I would definately agree with what others have said about the Hasegawa Dauntless -I built one a while back and although I had to drill out the dive brakes, its a very good quality kit.Thumbs Up [tup]

We all have big eyes as the saying goes.  Sometime in the spring would be great.

Need more people to join the FAA GB gift exchange.

The following have given their intent to participate but I need you era and scale you would like, PM me the information:

Alain/chester 101

Mike/ruddratt

Dave/razordws

Frank and I think that 1 Nov should be the cutoff so I can have time to get the names to you all by the weekend.  As for price it's what you can afford.  The idea is not so much the gift as it is about build our camaraderie and friendshipParty [party]Make a Toast [#toast].   Again any ideas or suggestions are welcome.

I hope you will be able to start building soon too my friend!  Those GB's sound like a lot of fun, and next year sounds like a good time to do it.  I have three going on right now, another starting in 3 days, and the gift exchange.  At my current building pace, it could take a bit to get ahead!Sigh [sigh]

Very true my friend.  I like the idea of a USN/USMC build.  I also like the idea we talked about, Japan WW2 GB.  Next year would be a great time for them.  I hope by next weekend I will be able to start building again.

Roy,

I was talking to Darren a couple of weeks back about maybe doing a USN/USMC GB next year.  Kind of like the FAAGB, but US Navy/USMC.  I would DEFINATELY be interested.

I picked up the Hasegawa SBD a month or so ago, after months of frustrating work on the AM kit.  I picked it up on Ebay w/ the included PE dive flaps.  After looking at the kit, I think the AM kit has better detail (especially in the cockpit) but the HAsegawa one looks to be an easier build.

Another SBD kit that you may want to look at is Hasegawa.  I got the kit a few years back.  When I compare it with AM's I think AM's is the better kit.  I have yet to build any of them at this point.  Frank an I have talked about future GBs, maybe this could be oneWhistling [:-^]

Good luck with the Dauntless, Roger.  Building that old kit into a decent model is a "Daunting" task Smile [:)].  BTW, back in the days when Monogram first issued this kit, they were intended as toys for kids to assemble.  But more serious modelers started building them as replica models.  Monogram got the message & began issueing more detailed kits for adult modelers & thus the 1/48 scale kits were first born.

Actually didn't know that! I kinda figured maybe that particular kit was meant to be more a hybrid for a father/son sort of build. The father teaches the son how to build em, and he has a nice "toy" to show for it. Always good to know a little modelling history!Thumbs Up [tup]

I won't lie to ya guys, it does look like i got my work cut out for me. I think i'm just wrapping up the easy part here. With all the flaws i had seen thus far, i'm not getting my hopes up too high. I'm just finalizing a build i have for another GB- that one incorperated alot of firsts for me (putty, sanding, cockpit detailing, future, dullcote) And despite hangups with those new techniques, i think i'm satisfied with those results. However with the Dauntless, i'm seeing this as the next opportunity to improve on those skills. All very basic stuff, i know. But i'm hoping i'll be cranking out builds that are up to par with the rest of you guys soon! But thanks so much for the votes of confidance and encouragement! Y'all are real pals!

Warmest regards,

Roger

Anyway look forward to seeing your progress on the SBD.

Roy

I agree! That is quite a deal!

Actually, i'd love to try my hand at the Accurate Miniatures kit. If nothing else but to see how they compare. Especially with the quality of detail and the moulding. I went with the Monogram kit because it was pretty cheap, and it had alot of sentimental value for me. And i know that most modelers detest the idea of calling a given kit "toys". But i have to admit there are some features about the Monogram that are rather toy-like. The biggest thing is the bomb release button on the bottom of the fuselage. Though very unusual for a kit, it probably come in handy when i'm running around the home making airplane noisesWink [;)]
