I have a question on the FAA Corsair Mk I. I have a 1/48 Tamiya 'birdcage' Corsair and I beleive it is able to be used as the early Corsair Mk I, is this true? Hopefully it is as I can get rid of the current US scheme on it and redo it in the Grey/Green FAA scheme easily.

Neu- I agree- looking very good!  Can't wait to see her in a coat of paint. Big Smile [:D]

Dave- Yes, you can build the Corsair Mk.I from the birdcage kit, that is what I am working on right now too.  One thing I have found about them- not all of them have the clipped wingtips.  I am not sure why, but I have photos of them with and without the clipped wings. Thumbs Up [tup]

WOOHOO!!!!!  Got some color on the Kingfisher last night.  It felt good to be spraying again.  Let that dry for a day or two and then start masking for the topside colors.  Oh and I still have to finish masking that damn greenhouse.Banged Head [banghead]

I need some advice from you guys... I want to create some paint wear like in the photo of the corsair above... how would you guys do it? I'd like to use the salt chipping method but I don't think it would give the right effect; (look more chipping than wear and tear.) Would table salt be too large particle wise to look right? What do you guys think?)

I would stay away from salt, tends to leave a residue and ruin paint work. Try and find some very fine sand instead if you use that technique. My 2 cents [2c] HTH!!!

Thank you very much for the Christmas card Darren!!Make a Toast [#toast]

There's been an accident.  My Kingfisher decided to see if it could fly.  It is now lying on my shop floor in a pile of scrap.  Will have to see what else I have or can pick up that has flown with the FAA/RN.  Part of me is unhappy and part of me is tickled that kit is a bear.

Sorry to hear that Johnny, I live with cats and they can be a nuisance.  Fortunately mine rarely enters the model room and is not a problem.

John,

Bummer.  Maybe your cat thought he was doing you a favor.  Naaah, that can't be it.  He was doing the old if a model falls off a shelf and there's no one around, will I have only eight lives left test.  Some of you might be wondering why then he/she didn't do it when John was present.  I never said the cat was stoopid.

Buddy- Those who say there are no stupid questions have never worked in customer service.

Mine don't usually enter either but occasionally they sneak in.

Well it is kinda like climbing a Mountain..... Just cuz it's there!

Or going to the moon to say we did it?

Or  going out with the entire cheerleading squad just cuz you can! Thumbs Up [tup]

Plus a lot of old models have sentimental value to me.

It is a good test of skills. One reason why I prefer older kits is that it reminds me of how good we have it now. And they're harder. I haven't had the opportunity as all my kid stuff is gone, but I'd love it.

So it's a good thing then that I just obtained the old Smer 1/50 Swordfish on floats? :-) There is another of the same kit for me to acquire if I so desire it as well.
