"OTFL"  Having made the big move two years ago all this is still fresh in my mind and you guys are cracking me up.  Which is good because I'm in a bit of a foul mood today becasue I just put in an order to Greatmodels on Fiday only to find out today that everything I ordered is now on sale.Sigh [sigh]  Why does it always work out that way?

Durr, welcome back.

Sign - Off Topic!! [#offtopic] But I wanted to share this with the group.

Here are a few pics of a TBF that crashed during a training mission of the coast of California around 1943.  No info on what happened to the crew.  You can see what fire and weather has done to the airframe.

It may be off topic, but very cool pics indeed!  Thanks for sharing Roy.

Mike- Thanks!  I'm really looking forward to finishing this one up so I can start my Spit!

Evening Chaps!

I've been in my hush-hush workshop for the best part of the day and I've been butchering plastic like there's no tomorrow!

This time its the turn of my Airfix 1/48 Mk.47 Seafire...............I've drilled out the exhaust stacks and the fuslage camera's as it looks better than the kit option. Wings roots took a little work but they are getting there.Wink [;)]

OK, got this thing together, but she still needs some clean-up, this one will be built mostly OOB as the office is all over matt black-there is little to see. However I am happy with the way I got the wing configuration together.....as I mentioned in an earlier post, Mr. Airfix doesn't make it easy for you!Mischief [:-,]Pirate [oX)]

She looks great Darren!  BTW, would you mind sharing the colors you used on the Corsair?  mine is painted up, but I'm not happy with the colors.  I really like how yours turned out, and want to use the same colors you did.

Darren-

Thanks!

I was not happy with the colors (too dark), so I started lightening them up and adding random "clouds" of color and got carried away.  Now, I'm deciding whether to try to fixx it again, or just strip it and start over.

Hello again!

Right, here's what I used:

Extra dark Sea Grey.......Humbrol no-H123

Slate Grey....................Humbrol no-H224

Beige-Green(Sky)..........Humbrol no-H90

I took the two greys and lightened them with a couple of drops of white. I don't know if you can get Humbrol paints where you are, but they are great for UK colours, I recon if you go for the same colours with another brand and lighten them you will be OK.

Hope this helps you out.Wink [;)]

Hi Frank,

just read your previous reply, I hope you don't have to strip your model, that would be a real shame after all that nice panel work you put into it. Still, whichever way you go, I'm looking forward to seeing how yours turns out. What kinds of paint do you have availiable to you over there?

I just caught this photo.....mate, she looks sharp! From here the grey looks spot-on-I'd say the  slate grey looks just a tad too green. Hope you don't mind me saying so.Blush [:I] You might save a little time by adding a tiny ammount of light grey to that colour, it could just turn the green down a notch to how you want it......

Thanks Darren.  The paints I have available here are MM enamels, Gunze acrylics, and Tamiya acrylics.  The grey is Gunze 305 Grey FS36118, and the green is Tamiya Field Grey.

You know what?  my girlfriend and I were looking at it last night, and we can't figure out if the grey looks wrong, or the green.  So, if anyone would care to help us, which do you think is off?  The grey, or the green?  She says one, I say the other.  If you chaps wouldn't mind putting in your My 2 cents [2c], I would love to hear your answer!  I won't say who picked which, of course. This may help for reference.......

This is the same Tamiya kit built by a very talented fellow at last year's UK Nat's. It gives a good indication of how faded the colours should be.Wink [;)]

Darren, the Spit is looking great so far! ....and it's neat to see that Corsair again too! Thumbs Up [tup]

Frank, I've been looking at the pics of your build, and I'm leaning towards the green being just a tad too green. It's tricky with colors, the way they can seem to change their hue based on adjacent colors. That's a tough call....but the quality of the paintjob is up to your usual high standards.....looks fantastic so far buddy!

Thanks for the help guys!  I another problem is the demarcation is too soft, makes the colors blend too much.  I can't find my cross-reference chart, seem to have lost it in the move...

Can anyone help with a Gunze or Tamiya paint number for the green?

Ahhh... the weekend!  I am actually off work until 7/5, lots of building planned!

Darren- are you sure about the Humbrol 224?  Can't find any reference to it at IPMS Stockholm.

Cheers, gentlemen! Make a Toast [#toast] Pirate [oX)]

Frank-

224 is a new colour, only been out for a year. Model master makes a close shade to it also called slate grey-its listed as a British Standard no.

I wish we had your weather over here! I have'nt been able to do any gardening all week! Maybe I should move too........Big Smile [:D]
