Looks good Dave!  On your canopies, do you glue them on then fair them in and leave them closed up?  I really like that idea, makes it look like they are a part of the airframe.

Looks great so far Dave! That is one unusual-looking bird. Thanks for posting the pics and be sure to keep us updated. I can't wait to see this one as it progresses! Thumbs Up [tup]

Frank, that canopies on both of these look better closed up. The Barracuda because it is molded that way and the Firefly due to the thickness of the canopies. In this case I have glued them in place then faired them in. I would normaly mask the canopies before filing or sanding but I glue them in unmasked due to the possibility of the glue getting under the mask.

I will keep you guys updated on the progress of them.

Darren I know I'm going back a page or two but the Corsair looks awesome, I can't wait to see it finished.

Frank the Zero is very cool; you've really done a nice job on that one.

Dave the progress on your Barra looks spot on, please keep up the progress shots.  Also, it was great to finally meet you in person at Expo the other weekend Smile [:)]

Now I have a question for the group, what color/brand paint do you guys use for RAF interior grey/green?  The reason I ask is that in the past I have always used Testors enamels but this year I have moved exclusively to acrylic paints and was looking for the best match for RAF interior grey/green in acrylic.

Cheers

I use ModelMaster RAF Interior Green enamel, but I'm pretty sure they make the same color in their Acryl line.  Another one is the Aircraft Color line of acrylics made by Vallejo.

Darren, I've painted all my RAF/FAA interiors with Acryl British Interior green after applying a base of camouflage grey enamel. RLM74 is used for my wash color. The enamel base coat may be unnecessary, but old habits are hard for me to break. Wink [;)]

I remember reading somewhere here in the forums a link to the fonts used by the RAF and FAA for their aircraft code letters.  Does anyone remember where that was? Confused [%-)]

I can't find the decals I want for my Corsair, so I think I am going to have to try to mask and paint them.

Darren-

thanks mate! To answer your question, I use Humbrols H78. Its a perfect shade of RAF interior green. Good news is that they are about to launch a new acrylic paint range, so you should be able to get it in acrylic or enamel.

Frank,

I don't know the link but I did find some decal sheets for RN/RAF codes somewhere on the web, I'll try and hunt them down tomorrow.Wink [;)]

Outstanding work my friend!  You really outdid yourself on that one.  Great camo, subtle weathering, ultra-realistic antenna, base, I could go on!

Seriously, you should be very proud of that one.  I hope mine turns out half as nice as that one. Pirate [oX)] Make a Toast [#toast]

Just a quick update:

I have been busy with my Mk.47 Seafire and its going well! I have put the fuselage together now and started on the wings. It is easy to get the Mk.46/47 wings mixed up so watch those instructions! The Mk.47 wings come in seperate wing fold pieces and this makes assembly tricky. My idea was to use the bottom of the Mk.46 wing and modify the upper Mk.47 wing so that I can pose my Seafire with its wings down. I put the wings together tonight and they look OK.

I have some leave coming up soon so I hope to get really stuck into this one! I'll post pics as soon as I get all the clamps off.Wink [;)]

Sounds great, Darren! Thumbs Up [tup] Glad you finally have some time off buddy! You've been really burning the candle at both ends lately.

A (sort of) modeling update for me. The wife decided she wanted to flip-flop the contents of our work room and our guest room, saying the guest room should really be the larger of the two. Well, we (and I use that term loosely) are just about done (been at it since Friday morning) and what can I say...she was right again! Whistling [:-^]

I tried that arguement, but just the implied threat was enough for me to relent. Wink [;)]
