Ditto to what Frank said on the gloss coat.  Also any ammonia based cleaner like window cleaner can take off the future as well.  I would try a recoat and it may smooth out on its own. I have seen it done before in the BOB GB.

Um I am now asleep too many long work nights lately!  JUST nutts! Sleepy [|)]

Neu- I have had that problem with Future in the past, due to surface tension.  WHat I do to avoid it is to stir a drop of dishwashing soap into the paint cup, helps break up that tension. Thumbs Up [tup]  Also, I spray about 25 psi and mist on a coat, then a second about 10 minutes later, and a third heavier coat ten minutes after that.  HTH! Approve [^]

Mike- Have fun, is this a holiday or business trip?  At any rate, have a great time and we shall hear from you when you get back.  Feel free to post any pics (especially of Italian babes Smile [:)]) upon your return.

Gonna miss you lot whilst I'm away (unless I can find some wifi in the middle of nowhere) but hope to see lots of lovely photos from you guys when I get back.

John that's a nice tigercat, looks like a powerful beast, a nice sheen on that smooth finish.

Neu I cant really offer you any tips because I dont use future myself, I read up on it and everything only to discover it was being discontinued in the UK so I never bothered seeking any out. However I can point you towards this fine article which may be of some use? http://www.swannysmodels.com/TheCompleteFuture.html
Maybe you've already seen it but it does seem to cover a lot.
Hope it helps.

Cheers...

Ugh, time for another installment of neu's how to ruin a month of work in 20 minutes with glosscoating.

So I don't know why, but future seems to be my Achilles heel; I can't seem to ever get even a half decent job out of it. This time I tried some tips I received after my last failed attempt. 15psi, no thinning, mist spray first coat, then wait 10 minutes and do a heavy coat. Its been an hour now and, again I have bad beading and possibly some bad orange peeling going on.

So does anybody have any suggestions how to fix this now, and what to do next time? Is there something I'm doing wrong here with Future? Should I just use something else?

Thanks Aaron.  Its about the same size as a P-38.  Looks bigger because of the larger engines and a broader chord on the wing.

I've been working on the Whitley all weekend. As the more sober among you will recall, little Nam was an early member of the crew, at which point a full crew on this flight took shape. Not ready for pics yet. But in the meantime, I've been doing a lot of research on Coastal Command and such crew uni's. Here's a picture I found that just frankly puts a lump in my throat.

Just finished this AMT F7F-3 Tigercat for the Twin-engine Fighters GB.  Its not FAA but it is Naval, well actually its Marine.

I did notice that I need to touch up the sea blue on the wheels.

The decals are horrible in this kit.

Nice score CAG!  Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup]

As promised, I've uploaded photos of the Corsair that I did for the US Navy GB earlier this year.  Sorry for the delay but I guess I was hoping to finish the dio I had planned before posting the final pics.  The dio idea is close to being done but I was waiting to find a figure or two to go with it and finally picked some up recently.  Will post some pics when it is complete.

EDIT:  Kit is the 1/72 Tamiya F4U-1A

Frank,

Congrats on the pics and the check.

Neu,

Been following your build as I have that kit in the stash as well.  Hope mine comes out as nice as yours.

CAG,

Thanks for posting all the pics.  Just one thing, in the NAVAIR build from last year you called it the UCMC instead of the USMC.  Do you really want to upset the Marines?Whistling [:-^]

Aaron,

I think you've built more in the last 6 months than I've finished in the last 2 years.  Look forward to seeing you build the Tamiya kit.  I've got some pics of Kermit Weeks' Sunderland from when I was at his place in 07.  I'll post em here and on my fotki page if you're interested.  That's a big mother, have you got enough wallspace to hang it on?  Btw, the first locksmith company I worked for sold stunguns and as an employee I had to try them out so we'd know if they were good enough.  You don't have to worry about me using a stungun on you, as I found them to be rather weak.  Do have a surprise for you should I find you slacking.Mischief [:-,]Pirate [oX)]Make a Toast [#toast]

Actually I read that Scharnhorst struck a mine too. It was a heroic effort by the FAA and the Kreigsmarine, and was a real failure by the RN to intercept the group with lighter units on the surface.

If you look at the maps of the dash, the Germans hugged the coast of France all the way to avoid British radar and shore forts. Imagine that these days; 10 miles made a difference.  It's no wonder Swordfish were effective.

Very good history synopsis, Aaron. You have a collection to be admired.

Ok I promised some Stringbag pics!  Here is the 1/32 Trumpeter Fairey Swordfish MkI in the markings of the Channel Dash of 1942.

All attacking Swordfish were lost in this attempt to stop the German heavy cruisers Scarnhorst, Gneisenau, and Prinze Eugen . Only 8 of the crew members survived the ordeal. Still the incident was strongly viewed by the public as very heroic as these men without fighter escort attacked 3 modern heavy cruisers covered by squadrons of 190's and 109's  without hesitation.

No torpedo's struck home. The only damage was done to the Gneisenau when she struck a mine and all three German Cruiser escaped to safer ports north.

This failure was viewed more as a symbol representing the courage of the British Naval air crews against impossible odds and though tragic became viewed more so with pride in these brave men and not as a defeat.

I have often heard from veterans that it is always the best and bravest that don't come home. Such was the case in the Channel Dash.

Have you seen this boy????

Admral Jeaton also did a cool B-17 Coastal Command  in 1/72.

I remember a couple Corsairs by Dave and BobaFett but not sure if they finished or I missed the finish?  Back around pg 435 ish?  Bondo had a killer PBY somewhere. Looked real . I forgot my PBY as well but no biggy!  Anyone else remember any other works!  Gotta catch the Cag while he is sober. Cpt Bondo been lacing his rations me thinks!
