So, which set did you use?  If the ACE, did you insert spacers between each 'fin'?

I'm going to practice using my Airwaves PE set and build the Airfix as a Mk II (my three Frogs are reserved for the Mk I - Tony Wray plane).

So what type of cooler do I have on mine????? Not that I give a Taped Shut [XX] since its finished!!!

Ney laddie it's the name of the port on the west coast of Scotland, way down west in Argyll, where the Coastal Command had a patrol squadron based. In this case the 240.

Now we Highlanders (Morrison is my clan)  don't ken much to these RAF types, none the less they had a habit of naming flying boats for the ports from which they flew.

Fall in men. It's Friday at 2 bells of the evening watch and time to take stock of life. Raise a drink and let's sail away

I just got my Daywalker 1.0 modified, and this is a good thing. All parts big or small lay flat:

Highly recommended.

Thaks for the kind words. I went on a Israel jag this morning, until 4 am and besides the pending divorce, (kidding), I now have a divine Ouragon, Mystere and Magister in the blocks. But thats OT, feature of another future post.

I want some rum, a few good shanties, and here's a cup for Roy!

Frank,

Nothing worth taking yet.  The fuselage pieces are glued together so I have two halves.  The wings are glued together and the outboard nacelles are attached.  Don't know how bad the seams are because the underwings and nacelles are black plastic.  Got two of the nacelle adapters glued to the top of the wings, gonna need some putty there.  Gonna order the resin pit from Squadron.  Definitely gonna get me some of those resin gun barrels that Bondo and Mac have.  As soon as I get something I'll post them here and over in the Matchbox G/B.  Never done done a resin pit before.  Did get the pit and fuselage glued together for the Airfix Sea Fury for this build.  Will glue the wings on when I get home this evening.  Gonna need some strip styrene to fill that gap plus lots o' putty.  Don't know why but the plastic in the latest issue has a slightly pebbly finish to it as well.Banged Head [banghead]

Aaron, all I can say is WOW!!!! I was wondering how you were going to detail the fish! That's using the old knowledge box!!!! The sprue through the tail feathers was exactlly how I did it too! I already had the tail done when I found the PE set but I took one look at teh control horns on th efret and was very happy and glad I used the sprue! Aaron can attest to how bloody small the bent up control horns are!! REALLY looking good Mate!!!Bow [bow]Make a Toast [#toast]

I second the compliments to the Capt Bondo's Flying boats!  Gonna have to try one of those myself! It looks so good!

Been a cruciatingly slow progress for me I am afraid!  I started the Bench time today splitting threads!

That Guy fellow suggested that with the nylon thread so as to not have the rigging and antenna wires all the same size.

Then I got out my magnifier and basically prelooped and set up the wire for use as to minimize handling. Things are getting fragile with all the small detailed parts.

I'm sorry they dont show up? Lets look closer then.

Divine scale? You can say that again! Takes a small miracal to see it let alone dabble with it! Make a Toast [#toast] Much respect to you who choose this as your primary scale! Bow [bow]

Moving on I worked a bit on the torpedo and Machine gun. There is a blooming handle to add to the magazine cover! Shock [:O]

To replace the grossly thick torpedo fins I took the extra oil cooler fins and trimmed them to shape with some PE metal shears.  Then to create a prop I used the 2 small PE trim wheels?  Extra again and ran what was left of the broken drill bit I had used for the MG barrel and it became the prop shaft. Trim off the arcs between and a wee bend and I have a double torpedo prop to scale.

Drilled holes through the fuselage and tail which I ran some stretched sprue thru. A tiny touch of liquid cement and a snip or 6 I had something to glue the contol cables to without them touching the flying surfaces. Split thread did the trick for the cables.

One odd thing struck me in this next picture. That I  meant to show the MG progress.

It is a homage to the group build and forum as in it you see Ritchie's Photo etch and refs, Guy's thread, Sean's PE Bug bender and Frank's tweezers that he sent as there is some regulation about him using sharp objects.Dead [xx(]Laugh [(-D]

Point being when you see that and add the tips and motivation given by all here about the only thing I can take credit for is spending $8 on an old model plane. You all are the best! Bow [bow]

Almost done but not going to finish it today. Going to wait and get the other two caught up and get them done together as planned but first I may take a sanity break and build this RE 2002 Ariete in 1/48 over at the RA side next door. Gotta get a quick break from the gray color!

Pirate [oX)] I have still been thimking that the occifers are drumk! Mischief [:-,]Make a Toast [#toast]

But wow!

Those are really tuff builds from what I hear and I can see no sign of it!  Most excellent work!  Cpt Sir!

Also I mentioned your name in vain on the Aircraft page to this fellow who showed me his Black Widow builds that very very nice. The thread was asking about weathering a P-61. Told him you were a fan full of inside info!

Now that Stranraer ( what does that name mean? Is it a fish?)  The Humbrol Paints are excellent. I used them on the Goose! i agree the color couldn't be better and am glad you did that lighter lower wing colors as I have read it was to make up for the shadow of the Upper wing over top it.  I'm thinking that was an exclusively British  thing as well and have never heard it mentioned elsewhere.  Very  nicely done for lack of a more sycophantical term! In case you've been thimking that the occifers are drumk:

The Stranraer is out of the paint shop, and it was all Humbrol enamels. A bit of a challenge but the colors seem spot on. There's a grey/blue that reminds me of living in Bristol. Although me Scot wants to be in Stranraer, on the coast...

Hats off to Chris Hall. He rules, all of the paints you see are a prop by him.

Dark Sea Grey and Slate Grey on the lower wings, to create the "shadow effect".

Extra Dark Sea Grey and Dark Slate Gray everywhere else.

The interplane struts ars the color of the surface from which they, um, go up.

EDIT: I did this too:

Geez Aaron, is that the 1/48 or the 1/32 in the photos?  Looks like too much detail to be the little one. Thumbs Up [tup]  How about a photo of the PE fret next to your finger or something, so we can see how tiny those bits are?

Frank,

Thanks for the pics.  I'm building a Lanc for the Matchbox build.  Don't remember the Shell decal in the lot though.  You wouldn't happen to recall what color the inside of the canopy frames were, do you?  Now I know where I'm going on vacation when it's time to go somewhere in the middle.

Buddy,

IIRC, all of the interior framework was black on this aircraft.  These photos are not the best, but it looks like all were black except the ring on the nose glazing in these pics.  Hope they help a little! Big Smile [:D]

The little bag is coming along nicely.  What about her siblings?  They don't all have the same markings do they?

Ritchie where are ya I'm running outta Photo Etch!!!!! EEKS! Shock [:O]

Well that just means I gotta Scratch build! Also using some of the duplicate parts for other details in the process!

Here is where I am on the MG, mount. Scratched out of wire and stretched sprue and some pe stuff that was extra.

Divine scale huh! Well maybe cuz I know I have been swearing a lot more than usual. Laugh [(-D]

Man these are some tiny parts. Hold downs extc. The streps on the struts don't even really show up. Probably will when I paint them black.

Wow the MG magazine even has a handle to add.  Still have to add the torpedo stuff and work on the tail control cables. Just taking a break cuz I was going cross eyed!  Dunce [D)]

Frank you lucky bugger!!!!!  Looks like one helluva show you got to go to.  Sadly air shows seem to becoming a thing of the past in my neck of the woods.  Old Grenier Reserve Field eventually became Manchester Airport, which hosted some WONDERFUL shows, but then she became an international airport and the show traffic interfered, and sadly now it is Manchester-Bostone regional international airport and the hopes of ever having an air show are long gone.

The Lancaster, the Hellcat and the P-38 would have had me staring for hours!!!!!  I remember the last airshow at Manchester we had, there was a P-47D on display.  Near brought a tear to me eye!!!!!

Hello everyone. I apologize for the long absence, family matters, home remodeling, summer vacation and other things too numerous to list. At the present I’m unable to do any modeling myself but when the remodeling work is completed I will have a dedicated work area. We are doing the work ourselves so it takes time.

Yes, me too!!! Always liked Heineman's hot rod, bantam bomber, scooter, etc. Big Smile [:D] I remember going to a first aid course when I was in the CAP in California at Mather AFB and walked down to the flightline and had lunch and whilst there two VMA-214 Blacksheep A-4Ms pulled up! I was lovin' that!!!!! Years later when I was in Georgia in the USAF at Robins AFB I probably saw a couple of the few remaining Skyhawks still in service land there. This would have been in '91 not long after Desert Storm.

Aaron- LOL, guess I'll see you at the Dr's office.  You'll be able to spot me- they guy with the boot in his ***! Black Eye [B)]

Dave- Thanks!  I thought of you yesterday, as the Hurri, Corsair, Lysander, Lanc, P-40, and Spit flew down from Canada.  I was talking to one of the guys with the aircraft, and he said they had a Beaver there as well, but didn't know where it was.  The pilot who flew it in knew where it was, but nobody else did.  I suppose with 12,000 aircraft in one place, it's easy to lose a couple. Disapprove [V]

Richie- Yes, we were both a bit bummed that she was not there.  As for the A-4, I don't really know if she flew in or was a static display birds only.  I know they used to have a Skyhawk at the EAA Museum, but am not sure if this is the same one.  Love the A-4, especially the early ones. Wake up sleepy heads it's only 10 PM and there is plent modeling to do!  Decals are o futued  dryed and Dullcoat is drying! Now next is paint up things like the tires and hull MG! Spot paint the rear mg area, then do the rigging on the upper wings so it can be installed. Then the Tiny PE battle begins! Thumbs Up [tup]

The decals on the Revell kit have been updated. THey are easy to use and go down well. You can even read the tiny stencils that say First aid Extc...  One less thing eh?
