Very impressive Carlos!!! Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup]  Glad you stuck with it and posted some pics.  I can't wait to build my 1/72 RevGer version.  Hopefully it will be an easier build than yours.

Welcome back, Carlos, and the He-177 looks great.  It does sound like it was a challenge to bring to completion, but it's an He-177, and perhaps the Grief is still being spread!!.  Well done.

Hey All!!

With this post I revive our great GB..!!

Finally I completed my HE-177...what a struggle!!!! It took more than a year but hat includes moving into a new house and general stoppage in building due to tons of work and life in general...now Im back on track!!

The kit didnt help...lots of fit problems..look closely you can see the gap in the front greenhouse canpoy...they just did line up, the top canopy was warped and I had to heat it with hot water and bend it into place and strong CA to hold it. The fuselage seams were a bit rough too. Need to have patience with this kit

All in all I like the final product. Had lots of fun with the camo job...took lots of patience....this is a BIG plane the wingspan is about 24".

Enjoy and as always your  comments aer more than welcomed.

And again thanks to all for a great GB!!!

Wow!

Bow [bow]

Now THAT's a lot of work. Not only are you one of the few owners of a Ju-287, but hopefully a PROUD one, too. That's what I call modelling. Great stuff there.

Dude! That wasn't a kit!I used a Combat Models vac-form He-177 fuselage and scratch-built wings made out of 2 sheets of laminated .80 styrene.I then carved the wings with an Exacto knife!Trust me it was a laborious process!I carved masters for the wheel-spats and front landing gear fairings from red oak then cast RTV molds and resin cast the parts. For the engines I used a Jumo 004 from The Hobbycraft Ar-234 kit to make a mold for the two engines mounted on the fuselage.I had to put two .50 caliber muzzle-loading bullets in the nose but it wasn't enough! So I drilled a hole in the rato rockets in the front and filled them with bird-shot.This was enough to keep her on an even keel.I used brass tubing for the landing gear. This was a very involved project and far from perfect but I am one of the few owners of a 1/48 scale JU-287!

Charles,

From my quick inspection the other night, it appears to have a pretty nice set of engines - not the standard firewall with basically a half engine molded in to the firewall piece, but actual engines.  I was impressed with that.  But from looking at the instructions, it appears that the cockpit detailing is less than stellar.  No rubber tires in this kit as with the older AMT release.  The props are still back wards as someone else has alluded to in the Grumman GB pages.  And they have provided a barrel that you are to use to keep the Cat from being a tail sitter but no instruction as to installing weight in the nose - my preference rather than a barrel.

You definately have to let me know how the Italeri kit is. That's on my want list.

That's funny, I have that same Pro-Modeler kit of the 234C.  And it's one I'm considering for the sequel GB, along with the Pro-Modeler Stuka.  I built that Pro-Modeler Ju52 a couple of years ago - it's a real good kit with some great detail.  Perhaps you should consider that it was used to "bomb" paratroopers out that big back door?

As for the Grumman GB, I just acquired the Italeri F7F Tigercat and I'm thinking of adding it to that GB some time next year.  But I won't be able to start until I finish the P-40 GB where I am tackling a monumental effort to build 5 different P-40s and to super detail the old Monogram P-40B.  I must be crazy.

Thanks, Steven. I though we had some great participation this year, and some phenominal builds.

If we can generate enough interst next year, BomberGruppe II is definately a "go". In my stash I have the ProModeler Ar.234C and I am always looking for a good Hs.129 kit. I wouldn't want to break the rules, but if there was evidence if a Ju-52 in a bombing role, I have that kit, too.

On to your Grumman GB, I'm making some great progress in the cockpit these last few days...hopefully something worth showing over the weekend

Charles,

Thanks for hosting this GB and thanks for inviting me into it.  This was my first and now I find myself up to my eyeballs in group builds!  If you want to host a sequel GB next year, that will be great and consider me in (and I already have a kit or two in mind, although I think I'll limit myself to just one build next time around).

With my other projects finished, I got started on my He-111.  Left wing and main body has been glued together, and the top gun turret.  I'll be painting my dark green, and black green.  V-1 with dark green with a mix of somthing else.

Thanks also to everyone for their moral support while me and my family were dealing with some health issues, I appreciate it!  Smile [:)]

Charles, Thanks.  That is a great way to cap off a GB!

By the way, on the F-86 decals, there is a 1/72 Academy kit with markings for El Diablo in 336th/4th markings, I got one to use for laying out all the markings.  It has a slatted short span wing with separate slats, though there are some goofy panel lines.  Nice little kit for $12.00.

OK, gang, Let's officially declare "Time's Up" on the GB. This by no means should stop those who are close from posting their birds...the timeframe is simply meant to give the GB some structure. Same goes for all of the stringent rules!!Whistling [:-^]

Thank you all who participated. This has been a great compilation of both great people and some great builds. I had a blast and learned a lot about some of the kits you guys were working on.

Hopefully we can try a BomberGruppe II next year...I'd like to see some of Espins Luftwaffe magic on a bomber, Jason finally overcome that Condor!, carsanab find enough space to work on his Grief! to name a few. I hope you guys enjoyed this as much as I did.

I'll try to post a tribute to you all over on the Aircraft page so the others can see your fine work. Bow [bow]

Thanks again, everyone.

Great job, Dave. That's one of the neatest schemes I've seen on a 234. Excellet job on a bear of a kit. Your build reminds me never to buy the Dragon offering!

Oooooooo  nice.  It really looks great Dave.  I like that camo scheme.  Glad you were abl to fix the seat.  I hate it when the model is all tape up for painting, you can't see inside and something starts to rattle around.  I play king of a guessing game 'til the masking comes off.   "Maybe it's the ... Or the...?"

Well I'm a few days late but I have pictures of my 1/72 Dragon Ar 234 B.  There are still a few touch ups and I still want to add the RATO pods at some point but I am calling it done.  I was able to pop the front canopy piece without too much trouble and was able to re-glue the pilot's seat and I dusted the inside of the canopy while I was at it.  I am pretty happy with it given all the difficulty I have had with the 234C.  ( I hope to still finish that one in the next week or two)

Anyway, on with the show...
