BomberGruppe GB - 2007 (Luftwaffe Bombers)

There's no way in heck I'm going to be done with the JU88 anytime soon.  I haven't had time to touch it since I started working on the cockpit.  So..... to keep me from getting even further behind on my other commitments I'm going to have to push this project off to the side for a while.  I really enjoyed watching this GB though, great work by all! 

On another note, my wife is recovering very well from her surgery.  The stitches were taken out on Monday, and she went back to work on Tuesday.  It's going to be a while though before it's all healed up.  I'm just glad they had to do fewer cuts than they originally anticipated and that she's doing well!    I'd like to thank everyone for their moral support, I really appreciate it. 

OK, gentlemen, let's set a final date for the GB...would this Sunday, 11/4 at midnight (in your respective time zone) be enough time to finish what you've started?

I know there are a few mid-process builds out there...hopefully this gives a realistic chance of finishing?

Dave, I'm glad to see that those 234s are going to be done in time! Those are some spiffy builds.

As for me, I fear that I am going to run over the deadline (go figure...)  I've run into a few snags, both with it, and at work, so building time has not been what I thought it would.  To top it all off, one of my two cats stole the canopy...they like to bat things around for a while, until its good and 'dead' then carry it off somewhere.  I'll find it eventually, but in the meantime, I'm just gonna keep working on what I have.  I'll post pictures of progress, when I finally make some... Anyways, I'm sorry for not finishing in time, I really thought I could.  I'll finish it, I promise, just not soon.  Thanks guys, and keep up the great work.

 I have no ideas about the dust inside the canopy (unless it's overspray), but my clear flats have a dusty/chalky look to them as well. Hopefully mine was a bad bacth of Polyscale Flat Clear, which according to rumor may have frozen during shipment, negatively affecting its qualities. The other rumor was a re-formulation. If that's the case, would the Model Masters paint be effected too? I thought MOdel Masters and Polyscale were owned by Testors....?

I haven't tried them yet, but I've bought another bottle of the Polyscale, plus Gunze's flat clear and Color of Eagles flat clear...I'll have to do a side-by-side test.

Flat coat has been sprayed and masks are off.  Just the fiddly bits to add now.  The 234C is going to need some repair on the canopy as there was some paint pulled off with the mask and some clear coat got under the mask.  The 234B turned out okay but for some reason the inside of the canopy is all dusty.  This has happened to me before and I'm at a loss to explain why this happens.  Anyone got any ideas?

I also opened a new bottle of Model Masters acrylic flat coat and it has a real dusty look to it that is not what I'm used to.  Usually it has more of a satin finish to it.

As long as you're wearing a costume during the festivities. Or busy scaring neighorhood children. I think those are worthwhile diversions from the build..

John, the scheme is from an Aeromaster sheet (72-085C) and is identified as Ar 234 B-2 of 9/KG76 and was captured by USAAF.  I did adjust it a little with some artictic licence (yes I have a valid artistic licence ).

my wife went down to the hobby shop last night when she was out shopping

and picked me up a kit to make up for what she did.

gotta love her....

i need to get started on my zero for the pearl harbor gb.

hopefully i can complete this one.

Nice work, Dave, there is light at the end of the tunnel!  I like the front scheme too, I hadn't seen that one before.

Jason, Hang In There!  I'm like that when I crash an RC airplane, I just toss it in the corner and later I can get up the courage to repair it (usually "again").

Dave: They both look nice, but the paint scheme in the foreground is Awesome-wow! Keep the pics coming.

Jason, sorry to hear the bad news, man...is it fixable? Hopefully we'll see it someday, it was lookin' great!

Dave, those 234s are looking real sharp...Those paint schemes are gonna pop!

As for me, progress, is coming along...all major subassemblies are nearly done (need...more...putty ) I'll post pics before and after I start painting. This kit is nice, but man, does it have some issues...I'm still trying to get her done before the end, but its gonna be close.

rlm 76 mottle is now on the 234B!  IN hind sight I should have lifted the mask for a softer edge but it will do.  I have to touch up some overspray on one of the engine pods and then its on to decals.  Getting close.

Keep the badge, please. You've been a solid contributer in the GB and a mainstay for a long time. You've definately earned your wings...we'll just say your Condor is in the repair hangar for now.

Maybe late in 2008 we can try a BomberGruppe II, with the Condor a shoe-in for Comeback Bomber of the Year.

i regert to inform everyone that disaster has stricken the condor.

when i came home from work,my wife was sitting on the couch and she was upset.

when i asked her what was wrong she said that she was putting one of my

modeling books away and one of my brass book ends slid off the shelf crushing the condor!

thats what i get for having a book shelf above my work bench.

all that work.......down the drain.

i may try to repair it but not for a while.

so i am giving back the badge.

Looking good Dave.  I think you are repeating history, seems like the Germans were a bit troubled by the odd bombing and other irritants while building the 234's weren't they?

Still plugging away, got the splinter camo on the 234B and Decals on the 234C.  I plan on doing a mottle of rlm 76 on the sides of the 234B yet so I've got a ways to go on it but if I have a good weekend it should be close.  Looking forward to seeing your condor finished Jason.  I know what you mean about work, had a terrible day today and I'm not looking forward to going back tomorrow.

Thanks for the moral support my friends.  My wife is doing good.  Swelling is still an issue, but she's been really good about keeping it properly iced.  There is still a little bleading from time to time, but nothing major.  The pain has been minimal which is really good.  I'm at work today, but have our oldest daughter on "nurse" duty today.

Woo-Hoo! That's great news, Scott! I'm very glad you stopped by to share the news. I'm going to ride that high and hit the modeling bench tonight.

Does this mean the scare is all over with? Did they remove everything they needed to?

I had a splotch on my arm removed about 6 years ago, so I know what that;s all about. I have a neat little scar to prove it. The story changes depending on who sees it. Bar fight, heroic rescue,...you name it!

Great progress so far, Dave. You'll have two little gems there when all is said and done.

I had a pleasant stay in Reno and had a very nice visit with the boys in High Sierra Hobbies.  I picked up a couple of new kits at great prices and almost went back for more but I didn't take a big enough suitcase .
