CB: I know, everyone knows Smile [:)] but it is a very old kit and it was a pretty nice kit then. If you need to have a really nice kit, get Tamiya Mk Ia. It is a very nice kit, perfect fit (except the seat and wall behind the seat) and you will like it a lot. It costs 2x the Revell Monogram but result is worth it

here is mine (converted to IIa)

 Happy Thanksgiving !!!!!

I actually have an Aztec 4709 airbrush kit I'm working with so we'll see how it goes.  I'm dealing with an air pressure problem right now but my hope is to use it on this build and the WWI build.

Its now about 1 hr after I posted the above comment.  I am now convinced that if I ever get hold of one of the designers at Revell.....I'm going to put a hurtin on him!!  I'm dry fitting/ test fitting the kit together and the gaps are unreal.  I am now of the firm belief that if you are getting back into building you need to spend the money on a decent kit!  This is really making me look forward to starting my Eduard Pfalz D.IIIA for the WWI GB!!

Ben Sign - Welcome [#welcome] to the build buddy and a big Sign - Welcome [#welcome] back to the hobby.

This build has been going a while as Jon said but there are still plenty of people building that are just slow (including me Blush [:I]).  The Revell kit is a great way to break back into modeling as there's nothing majorly wrong with it in term of fit.

By the way are you going to brush paint it or use an airbrush?

Cheers

Thanks Marc!  I appreciate that.  I have to admit, I visited your site numerous times to look at how you did your Mk.XIVc!

chef_ben- [welcome] to the GB!  Darren should be along soon to officially welcome you and put you on the roster.

There ya go chef_ben! This has been a great GB..... I finished my Spitfire a while back for it.

You'll need some hosting for the badge..... something like Photobucket. Then just place the badge into your signature. PM me if you need more help!

That Revell kit is a lot of fun. I built one myself when I returned to the hobby. And you can't go wrong with a Spitfire- they are the best! Smile [:)]

Uhhhh here are your answers.......

1) I was in the NAVY ...... I learned along time ago if its more than two pages don't agree to anything.  I also learned that NAVY is really an acronym for Never Again Volunteer Yourself!!

2) I haven't built a kit in God knows how long....and I only have 5 kits in my stash...Oh and I'm married so unless Resin or PE comes with it.....its OOB

3) I'll quit taking my Lexapro....that will guarantee that I will throw the kit against the wall before I ever get the seat in the Cockpit!!!

4) Officer....really....I've never heard of anybody named TheLastPriest!! Honestly!!

now that is some funny stuffPirate [oX)]

Well first there is the exremely rigorus application process, and you must meet all the qualifactions.....which I believe were met when you posted here and asked to join

Second, you must explain to me what in your post made it so obvious you were building OOB

And third, something that we all agree on and insist that everyone around us ahere to.....you must not have an ounce of fun while building. This is not what we are about and find it marrs the very serious nature of our hobby.

oh and avoid that LastPriest guy like the plague, I dont think he even knows where he is half the time

It is only the intellect that keeps me sane; perhaps this makes me overvalue intellect against feeling

OK....I'm hoping this is still open!!  I've just picked up the hobby after a few years of and happen to have a Spit ready on my table.  It is a Revell MkII which I will obviously be building OOB.  I'm new to the forums and really have no idea how this works but I love the badge you guys have come up with.  I hope I can join the build and not disappoint myself.  One question...How do you get the badge and display it?

I found some more info on that spit I found posted on warbird registry. Some other interesting facts:

July 10, 1940 1 ME109 destroyed and 1 damaged

August 11, 1940 1 BF110 destroyed pilot Sgt, Kirk

Nov-Dec 1940 claimed 3 more kills

August 2, 1944 shipped to Chicago....arrived August 19, 1944 (I've had catalog orders from in-state take longer!Smile [:)])

November 10, 1944-present  on display at Chicago Museum of Science and Industry

Thanks for the other info guys!Thumbs Up [tup] Just thought I'd also share some things from that warbird registry. It's a really interesting site to find out facts on specific aircraft. The web address is warbirdregistry.org

Mark:

This is a Spitfire Mk. I  serial # P9306 flown by Polish Pilots Henryk Szczesny and Stanislaw Brzezina and Jan Rogowski in 74 Squadron RAF during Battle of Britain. On March 6 1944 this plane suffered U/C failure when flown by Stefania Wojtulanis No 1 Ferry Pilots Pool ATA.

Since I'm no spitfire expert by any stretch.....I have a question....I took my sons to Chicagos museum of science and industry today. I was wondering exactly what kind of spit this one is. (these pics aren't mine, I found them on the web) The only thing I found about it was that apparently it was actually flown in the Battle of Britain.

Darren,

I remember hearing that- possibly from you!  I picked up another Mk.46/47 at a small LHS this summer.  Since the kit comes with the parts to build a Mk.22/24, I am going to use the 5-blade prop kit for one of those and use the contra rotating props on a future P-51 racer project, "Precious Metal".

P.S.- Do I get a "finished" mark on page 1 here too? Big Smile [:D]

I was speaking to the Airfix guys last weekend and they told me that they have no plans at present to re-release the Mk.46/47 Seafire.

However....................they did "hint" that if there was enough interest in the future, their position might change. Wink [;)]

Thanks Greg!

Squadron lists some of Airfix's kits, but most are not in stock.  As far as I know, the only way to find the Mk.46/47 is Ebay, and even then it may take a bit to find one.  They are becoming increasingly difficult to find!

John, Greg- Thanks for the kind words!

Greg- I remember reading the same thing about the door bars!  If I recall, they were left in natural metal but you are correct that modern restored aircraft have it painted red.  I thought about it, and decided that I liked the flash of color whether correct or not and painted it as such.

Or, maybe the pilot's favorite color was red so he had his, ah, door bar painted so to reflect the fact! Whistling [:-^]

It works for me Smile [:)]

and once again: I like the finish on this aircraft. You did a very fine job !

Does squadron carry the airfix kits ??  Big Smile [:D]
