Maybe we should all write to Airfix and tell them we really wish they would ask the Japanese how to make clear parts in less than coke bottle bottom thickness.  I was getting all excited about the Mk I kit, but then I got to that part.  Oh well.  I do wish them the best of luck, and though it is ot for this build I have the Canberra on order.

Sign - Ditto [#ditto] me on that one.  As a rule I'm very cautious about Airfix releases as I have been burnt before.

Although saying that the two kits I'm doing for this build are both from Airfix Confused [%-)].

Ditto that!

I've already told my friend at the LHS to call me as soon as they come in. I want to get one of those!

Good info. I thought the cock pit was the  dark blue-green with the instrument panel being black?

Cant even really get started on my SF until my airbrush arrives. ATM I'm just cleaning things up and picking paints and ideas. I guess I could go ahead and work on the guns.

I'm having a hard time picking a color for my MKII..red/skyishblue/white can anyone give me any input. Having a hard time finding picks of MK2s online...thers just so many marks for these planes that it really confuses me

I've been buidling alot of 1/48 stuff lately and jumping up to twice that size is a shock. Funny you should mention display after I took the pic I checked to see if it would fit on my big display shelf and it will barely. It will be the only aircraft on that level. I also have a 1/24 trumpeter bf109G-6 I plan to build and make and make dio out of them.

I did the gif in my signature with Corel Rave, which came with CorelDraw 11.  The file is 1.2mb, seems mostly dependant on the total size of all the jpegs that appear on it, and also on how slow you make the animation, since the slower it moves the more frames it takes, even if you slow the frame rate down.  Can't go too far with that though, because at too low a frame rate it won't be smooth and that is irritating to look at.  Since I already had some familiarity with Corel Draw the learning process wasn't as bad as it might have been, but I was running into a lot of blind alleys when I first started trying to understand the program.

I'm at the point on my K5054 project that I need to start putting on the exterior paint.  I may have a little more filling and sanding to do, but I can't tell where until I put sdome paint on it.  There sure is a lot of room for scratches on a 1/32 scale model!

Jesse - welcome aboard! You'll find out we really are a fun bunch to hang with! ...and ditto what everyone has said about the red patches. They will definitely add a nice splash of color. I'm building a Mk.Vb...it won't have any red patches, but it will have quite a few red stars! Wink [;)]

Phoenix - good lord, man! Where on earth are you going to display that beast!? Should be a real looker when finished given your talents!

John - that is one very cool sig! Like Marc, I was a bit late in picking up the text, but it's a really nice touch!

Darren - nice pickup on the MK.I! With all the multiple builds in this GB, I may just have to break out another Spit kit myself! Big Smile [:D]

Frank - great work on all the pics, buddy! Thanks for sharing 'em! Thumbs Up [tup]

Finally have a day off, and I plan on making the most of it. Going out with the wife for our anniversary tonight....everything is all set for when she gets home from work, so from now until then I can spend at the bench trying to catch up to the rest of you guys! Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

All great suggestions guys! I like the red patches that it adds a off the wall color, but I really want to add the barrels to bring out the rage from the plane. Since the SF doesnt display huge amounts of arms under the wings like current aircraft I really wanted to bring out the shredders it has. Plus it gives me a new excuse to detail a little on the wing

phoenix--WOW that's a big birg.  You will probably be wanting to join the unofficial GB "The Battle for MORE Shelving GB" I started is a couple of years ago and it runs through '07, '08, '09...  There is even a badgeBig Smile [:D]  Everyone is already in the build... they just don't know it yet.

Frank-Great pics.  Good shots of the exhausts. And who said thers's no red on an exhaust pipe?

John-Very cool GIF.  It tookme a minute to finally notice th Active & Completed and the model under the badge...nice. How big is the file?

Jesse-Welcome to the forum and the GB.  I agree the red adds some nice color to the wing.  You can still drill out the gun ports then rip the decal with a pin to look as if the guns have been fired like it just came back from a sortie.

Hi there Jesse (Wasteland) Sign - Welcome [#welcome] to the build.  There are a great bunch of guys in this build so don't hesitate to post any questions you may have.

Just as a by the by I happen to think the red gun cover patches look really great on an early Spit as the add a little extra color to what can be a fairly bland scheme.

John I like what you've done with your sig, what package did you use to do the animation?

Jon, the Airfix Spitfire Mk.I has been ordered and should be on my doorstep in about a week.  It goes without saying that I'll be doing it for this GB along side the Mk.22.

Cheers

Wasteland:

Those red squares were patches put over the barrels when the guns were serviced to keep dirt from causing jams, so it's not so bad to use them.  The method you suggested should be fine for making the holes in the leading edge of the wings.  I have a collection of small drills and a pin vise to hold them in than I would probably do the job with.  Some people use hypodermic needles for gun barrels, or similar small tubing.  It can sometimes be gotten from a pharmacy, as in supplies for insulin.  The .303 barrels on the Mk II Spitfire aren't too visible anyway unless you are looking very close.

Question. The SF MK2 guns were recessed into the wing. However my model has no holes/markings just stickers that go where the guns are suppose to be(the red squares)

I'd really like to go a bit further with this and add some holes and put some kind of small tube to simulate the barrells.

I'm assuming put the wing together with close pins. Drill a small hole and open it slowly with a tapered round file? Any ideas for gun barrells?

Waste Land-

Sign - Welcome [#welcome] to our GB!  You will have a lot of fun here!

Thanks, Greg!  Here are the rest of the Spitfire pics I took.  I didn't take any of the cockpit area as it was covered due to the rainstorm.

I'd like to jump in. This will be my first airplane, my first time airbrushing, and model modding. .....

I picked up the cheaper Revelle Spitfire Mk II today. I didnt wanna spend alot of money with this model popping my airbrushing cherry.

Frank, nice pictures !

In my opinion  pictures taken without a sun (low skies)  have to be better than within the direct sunlight. If you have a good camera and correct the light with WB than you have a chance to get a really nice detailed picture. With direct sun there is too much contrast and digital cameras especially do not like high contrast.

Additional drawback of the sunny picts are reflections (some can be limiited by using polarized filters).

So,  I think the pictures are really good Smile [:)]
