I'll title this post:

"We Three Cockpits of Orient are..."

... partially completed.

Hasegawa 1/72 F-16B Two seater, Academy 1/72 P51-B/C, and Academy 1/72 scale jeep - OK - so the last one's not really a cockpit.

Here's one for Wing Nut...   This piece scored a close second in the "smallest injection molded piece I've ever put on a model" contest.  (First place goes to a tail skid on a 1/72 scale Sopwith Snipe that I built a few years back.)  It's the control stick on the F-16.

Chris - Those cockpits (Jeep Confused [%-)]) look great! I still have no idea how you guys do that in 72 scale. I get frustrated in 48thGrumpy [|(].

Thanks guys for the comments. The support in much appreciated. It's a good kit and I have built one or two of them before, I know the shorcuts and fixes. As for the speed of the build, I get about an hour a day right now. Well, Im back from a short vacation/family trip, happy holidays and new year to everyone!

Freddie from LI (fjs3) - THANK YOU so much, this is a sweeeeeet kit! (Will post pics as soon as I pry the new digital camera from my wife's lovely fingers....). The kit is the Eduard IL-2M Shturmovik, which includes a small PE fret. I need to get couple kits under my belt before I tackle this baby :)  Thanks again, will post pics of the build!

Mist086 - I hope your family is doing better... glad you enjoyed the kit and hope that HAMMER next to the pic of the kit is not a reflection on the quality of the kit! ;)

Jon- Thanks again for putting this together, look forward to the GB!

Sorry no pics, will post ASAP!

Dear Jmart

I'm glad you liked the kit, it's a good one.  I built it when AM first released the kit in 1997.  I thought it went together very well, no huge problems.  The only thing I will tell you, is that when putting the wing spar in, the instructions say to BE CAREFUL and LET THE THING DRY COMPLETELY!!  Do what they say.  If it you push the build, (Which I did), and the parts shift without being noticed, (Which happened to me), you will have to break things apart to go back and correct the problem.  It's a matter of following directions, (Which I didn't)

I really liked the choices they gave you with the decals, lots of new and I don't think published aircraft in there.  You will have a ball getting it done

Have a healthy, happy and a safe New Year and I look forward to seeing that kit getting done.  If you have questions or need help, let me know

Regards,

Freddie from LI

Cockpit is done and I'm just waiting for some glue to set up before I close the fusalage halves. The wings are almost completed and will go on as soon as the fusalage is completed.

Nice looking Pilot Pit. Big Smile [:D]  Did you use photo etch parts or painted the seats, dials etc.  Looking at the parts to the one from you.  How did you get it to look so good.  Trying to get ideas as to how to do the Pilot Pit.

Will be awhile before I can get to the Corsair.  Got a plane and car on the go and have to finish these first.

Well - HAPPY NEW YEAR  Make a Toast [#toast]- to everyone.  All the best in 2008.  Remember if you Party [party] hard, please obtain a safe ride home.  Hate to see anything happen to my new friends.

Super job on the cockpit, Drew.  The only thing I see is the sides of the seat still look a bit thick, but that's just something that bugs me about my builds.  I wish I could get all the way through a cockpit and have it look as nice as yours.

The Junkers F-13 that Azgaron sent me seems to have caught my fancy, it's a nice kit and is going together very easily.  The main thing I am trying to do is get the fuselage parts together so the corrugations that join at seams are good fits.  To do that I have departed from the instructions (as my usual!) and I installed the cabin/cockpit on the left fuselage half.  Then I glued in all the windows, and after they were dry I attached the fuselage top.  Next I will add the right fuselage side, working first on getting a good fit on the upper seam.  That's where it is right now, although I have also assembled the 2-part wing.  The fit on the wing has been very good, after gluing all I had to do is clean up the leading and trailing edges, which I did with a small wire brush, working in a vertical direction.  That's all it took to get rid of the seams.

Great progress guys! I'm back home from vacation, so hopefully tomorrow I can get some build time in. I want to do a kit preview of the Ar-234 for my site, and then I'll start the build!

PaPa- John, Yes, I used pre-painted photo etch for the instuments, levers, trim wheels and seat belts. I painted the whole thing first then added the items after.

For your cockpit I would say to paint it the appropriate colors, dry brush and add the instrument panel and seat belt decal supplied in the kit. That will give you a very good looking cockpit. In 1/72 scale, the detail is not as noticable as it is on the 1/48 one I am building.

Thanks for the compliments guys Blush [:I] It's much appreciated.

Drew, that is some fine work in the pit!

Jeaton that kit looks kind of unorthodox in it's engineering. Looks good, keep it up!

AAACK no! Shock [:O] Come back here! Sheesh!Laugh [(-D] I'm not trying to scare you (by accident anyway Propeller [8-])

Dry brushing is very simple. An almost fool proof way (notice I said almost Wink [;)]) is to take a piece of paper towel and fold it until you have a nice sharp clean edge. About 2 folds normally does it. Dip the edge in the color paint you desire (silver, white and light gray being the most popular) then wipe off the excess onto a another piece of paper towel. Then genly drag the paper towel over the raised detail and the paint will only transfer onto the raised portions. If it smears and makes a mess, there is too much paint on it, try again.

A good spot to try and practice this is on the inside of gear bays prior to painting them. There is always raised details and once you paint them, any leftover paint is covered up.

Drew and Jeaton,

Nice work by both-a-yuz.

Jeaton - that fuselage has a really unique shape to it - almost looks kinda like something out of 20,000 leagues under the sea.  Very cool.  Nice work.

John- looking good! On the recent trimotor I built, a couple of the seams were misunderengineered and the corrugations would not line up. I scraped back one, then glued down stretched sprue and it came out ok.

Sign - Ditto [#ditto], on the dry brushing Pink.  Looks good.  Oh-Oh, I've got my work cut out.  Did TLP help your with the dry brushing or was he entertaining The Little Preistmeister.

Jon - Didn't your mother tell you when you were young, if you kept doing that (looking and squinting) you'd need glasses.  Naughty, naughty, oh, I guess later in life we all learn mother knows best, she just let father think he did.
