Oh yeah.  25 huh...  Got anything good that you might want to trade for, say, a Tiger I.  I see this as a big off-season trade.  I'm gonna need some prospects from your farm system if we are going to pull this one off.  Uhhh, assuming the Tiger I doesn't win the vote... Blush [:I]

By the way, Dupes, where do you buy kits in Maine these days.  Whenever I go up there and look through the phone book, I cannot find a single hobby shop listed.  Is Maine a complete black hole for the old LHS these days or are there still a few holdouts?

By the way, did anyone notice that I broke the 3rd century of posts...  Up to 310 already... Lookout Kenny, I'm coming for ya...

Seems like many of us are having to cut back on X-mas spending this year.  But given how out-of-control past years were in present buying (at least for me), it's probably a good thing to refocus on the less commercial reasons for the holidays.

My early holiday wish for everyone is that we have the opportunity to spend good times with family and friends, and not want for more Make a Toast [#toast]  Cheers and happy modeling!

Building Now:

1/48 Academy Bf-109G6 - 100%

1/48 Tamiya F4U-1A - 5%

Upcoming:

1/48 Revell F-14D

Ahhh, where do I buy kits in Maine...sadly, I don't buy ANY kits in Maine. My "LHS" consists of a small craft store, which luckily carries a full line of Tamiya and MM paints, and a few other random items - as well as some older kits at 100%+ full retail. So all of my kit buying is from Ebay, GreatModels, Squadron, and most recently Lucky Model - if you place larger orders with them the savings can be substantial. According to the yellow pages, there are no hobby shops in Maine - so I guess your "complete black hole" description (which I like!) is pretty accurate.

Honestly, I've never visited a "real" hobby shop - something I hope to rectify during a trip to  the Boston area some time this winter...that, and a trip to IPMS Nationals AND Dragon Expo '08 in August might count!!! Big Smile [:D]

Dupes,

How 'bout that 1/72 scale Gato? Whistling [:-^]  What?!  Not fair market value you say?  Have you seem how much extra stuff that Tiger comes with??! Dinner [dinner]  OK, so maybe not the Gato...  Nothing really specific I look for.  A lot of times I just see a kit and get this hunger down in the pit of my stomach - you know what I mean.

I will say I have been trying to diversify a little recently and have been shopping around for more ships and 'off beat' armored vehicles.  So, what say, after the vote, you have your people contact my people....Captain [4:-)]

I don't have much in the way of ships...nothing actually. Heh. Guess I need to branch out a bit. All aircraft and armor in the closet, currently 89(!) kits strong minus the two on the bench. Yikes. Are you preferential to WWII or Modern era stuff? Or do you swing both ways? I can start putting a list together...now! Big Smile [:D]

Hey - just looked at your voting list - it's almost all armor! Do you post stuff over in that forum very often?

dupes That realy sucks I spoke with the president &  VP of IPMS Lake Champlain and they were telling me that there were no LHS or practicaly none in northern New York and New England and that was the reason why they come up to Montreal 2 to 3 times a year and hit 4 of the LHS in my area.  At first I thought it was the excuse they gave there spouses just to come to Montreal however after hearing your tail of no LHS I feel sorry for those guys.

Cheers

Seriously, it does suck! But if you do the economics of the whole situation, it does kind of make sense. Just like any other business, you have to have a decent sized customer base, and there just isn't that around here...or lots of places, for that matter. The ability to get stuff at sub-retail prices also cuts down on store-front shops too. Sadly, a dying breed in the non-populous areas.

Still pretty fired up to see my first "real" hobby shop. I think my head will probably explode in the vendor rooms at IPMS Nats/Dragon Expo! I'll bring a towel. Laugh [(-D]

I have one in the town where I live.  Mostly old stuff at high prices and he only brings in new model kits once or twice a year but its handy for paint in a pinch.  It's a 45 minute drive to the next one which is decent but again expensive but at least they restock some new stuff once in awhile.  I absolutely drool though whenever I go visit my brother in North Vancouver which is about 4 and a half hours away.  There is a shop there that has just about everything.  Never seen anything like it before in my life.  It's not a huge place but it's stuffed to the ceiling.
