Well I spoke too early.. The paintwork came out ok, but the door and window decals just did what the others did and cumbled before my eyes again.. This little fella is going on the shelf. I will try and finish the 767-200 and that will be the last 1/200 kit I will evr build again.. too small for my liking.. The rest I have will be put up for the first buyer..

Just finished up the VC 10 fuse with some beautifully laid down coats of pure white. Was just polishing off the Tamiya polishing compound, and a three inch crack has appeared down the spine....must have pressed too hard.

Air blue with profanity !

My first airliner and my first GB completion! A bit of photo-etch and some after-market decals and here it is! Hope you like my version of  1/144 Revell-Germany's A319 in Frontier "Klondike and Snow" livery.

Very Nice Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup], Frontier use to be one of my Favorites when I had to Travel. You did a Fantastic job on a Model that will Display Nice.  Ken who made the Decals you used and did you have any "issues" using them ?

Thanks Summit. I used two sets of decals, Liveries Unlimited for the details and wing graphics, and MASP Decals for the Frontier decals. The biggest problem was avoiding wrinkles on the compound curves and several applications of Solvaset took care of that. The photo-etch was from ExtraTech.

What a coincidence, Simon. Same thing happened to me on my VC-118...but I slathered some Lighten Up on it and I'll be sanding it later.

Outstanding build, Kenjitak! It looks like you hit the real thing with a shrink ray! Bow [bow]

Since there are 9 months left in the build, I hope you'll come back and do another one with us.

OK...finally, 3 months after I started the bloody thing, the CV-118 Independence is READY FOR PAINT!!!!  Party [party] Woohoo!

Primer goes on the underside tomorrow night, topside on Thursday night, silver on the underside Friday and topside Saturday, then a week of curing while I get the small parts ready for final assembly.

AAAAAARRRRGH!!! Put primer on the Independence and found seams I never knew existed!

Where'd I put that putty? Banged Head [banghead]

On the upside, there's red paint on some of my race car parts and they haven't exploded or anything. [Multiple expletives deleted]

Thanks.. I just went and had a look at the original page in the thread and was surprised to see so many names in the build.. I must say I understand people lead busy lives, but after 20 or so pages, we don't have alot of progress, and it seems as though there really is only yourself, Frank, Neil, Simon and myself participating consistantly.. I would like to invite the other members to not be shy and feel free in joining in! If I have missed someone, then my appologies in advance..

Cheers, Chris

Glad to see you're back in the saddle, Summit. As I write this, Bondo 907 Glazing and Spot Putty is doing its work on the Independence. Goes for $3.29 a tube and works like a charm as far as I can tell. Thumbs Up [tup]

Of course, I'm the guy who thought this bird was ready for a silver paint job, too! Laugh [(-D]

Urich, now you know why I made the build a year long! Congratulations on the new tools and take your time, we'll wait for your Connie.

Ha ha, I have benched everything for the moment myself. Re-contracting at work, so my mind is elsewhere.. I am also feeling a little dissapointed in my efforts back in the 1/200 world..

Not so good from the Lions this week Chris. Brown only got me 24 Supercoach points ! Blues lost again but Fev kicked eight and encouraging signs appearing

Bit like my Airfix VC 10s !

Ok - I've had a 'secret' build on the go that I was hoping to spring on everyone when it was finished - but not to be as I need some help.  It's the Revell 1/144 737-800 , and I have Qantas decals for it from hawkeye models. I also have replacement resin wings with spoilers deployed and flaps at 40. ( it's going to be VH-VXC, 'Gippsland' which is the part of Australia I am from.)

Chris - the help I need is in relation to painting the Qantas red on the tail. The decals say to use Tamiya "Italian Red" in the rattle can - it does look to be the right shade - any advice ?

Also two more questions  -

How do you mask the tail up for the red, especially around the curve of the fuselage ?

The gold stripe that appears to be down the front of the red part on the fin - how to replicate that ?

Any advice much appreciated !

Cheers

Simon

Hi Simon.. Not happy. For me, losing to Sydney is like losing to Collingwood. And to lose at the GABBA aswell.. Not happy..

Anyways, Italian Red sounds right to me. When I did the A380, I printed out the Kangaroo to size on some sticker film cut him out and placed him on the tail. Sprayed over and when dried and removed, had the white kangaroo on the tail.. As for the getting the red around the fuselage. Cut some very long "thin" strips of masking tape and curve them around to what you want. Actually quite easy to do..

As for the gold strip. I would do the same with the tape, and then lay down the gold. Once dry, again use very thinly cut tape, cover the gold line and then do the red...

Hope that helps?

Hey fellows.... Smile [:)]

April 15th is fast approaching, so then I can put more time into my builds and posting on here!

Neil:  You done a great job on the Frontier bird; It really does look good... and also the Air India B777!!     I especially like the "windows" and how shadowing makes them have a 3D look!

Simon:  Really looking forward to seeing the VC-10 and 707 under the lights!     The Cunard decals look really nice on the 707, a real classic bird!

Urich: Congrats on the new supplies... just take your time and apply all the lessons you learned on the other one.     Thumbs Up [tup]

Chris:  Sorry to hear about the 1/200 woes!!     I just got a 200 Caravelle and B737, but they're going to be approached with caution!    Good luck with the things you have going on in the real world, and look forward to seeing you back in it!     Oh yeah, I went and got one of the Revell 747-400's like you suggested!   It's BIG!    Can't wait to get into that one! Smile [:)]

Ken:  Beautiful Frontier build!!    Looks like it's ready to power on and take off!   Thanks!!

CD:  Building Airliners is fun, isn't it? Big Smile [:D]     Yes, I have put off fixing a sketch of the whippet in Continental livery, hanging on fishing line with the others!  |D      After the dog done his thing, and I've got things figured back out, I now must amend my build list once more:

(1) Revell 1/144 Boeing 737-800, "Contintental", in flight configuration......  90% complete

(2) Airfix 1/144 DC-9-30, Playboy "Black Bunny", in flight configuration.... 90% complete         (pic of the 738 & DC-9) http://gunsagogo.org/activestack2.jpg

(3) Airfix 1/144 Boeing 727-200, "PanAm or Lufthansa", down & dirty configuration.... 30% complete.    *This was the one that was going to be my "secret build", but I'll give Simon some company and let it out of the bag...  some of the spare parts from the two destroyed kits sure have come in handy in doing this one!,  http://gunsagogo.org/cutaway6.jpg , http://gunsagogo.org/cutaway3.jpg , [url]http://gunsagogo.org/cutaway2.jpg , http://gunsagogo.org/cutaway7.jpg , http://gunsagogo.org/cutaway4.jpg , http://gunsagogo.org/cutaway5.jpg

(4) Minicraft 1/144 Boeing 707-420, "Lufthansa", configuration undertermined.... 20% complete      http://gunsagogo.org/activestack1.jpg

(5) Revell 1/144 Boeing 747-400, "Lufthansa", down & dirty configuration.... 5% complete   http://gunsagogo.org/activestack3.jpg    (yep, going to have to do surgery on the windscreen area)

*I'll just enter these, if the others come about, so be it, but these will definately be done*

Moving along, but slowly.... as soon as Jbot decides to send the Playboy decals, and the 144 scale seated passengers arrive in the mail... and of course April 15th, I'll be back in this saddle!

    Take care all... Smile [:)]

Wow, Frank...that is one heck of a build list! I'll take some time later today and edit it onto the front page. Your good wishes and advice are always appreciated.

April 15th? Did you add accounting or tax prep to your skillset?

Ha ha....

I may not get them all built, but there will be one heck of an effort put into it! Smile [:)]       Edited the build list to reflect the ones that will definately be in reach.

I got my CPA several years ago while practicing in another career, but it comes in real handy this time of the year 'cause it pretty much pads my modeling and vacation expenses! Wink [;)]

Also experimenting with a display technique that, from what I've seen thus far, will add a whole other spectrum of possibilities when it comes to making a display that WILL turn people's heads, and take their breath.... Guaranteed! Thumbs Up [tup]       You know what the funny part is?      You can do it in approx half the time, and in a round about way, cost you half as much as it would to do a regular static display, but will look a thousand times better!      For real! Thumbs Up [tup]

   Take care,

    Frank

Awwww - Okay Frank you've shamed me into it.  CD put me down for an Airfix 1/144 Trident , on-ground config , in BEA markings.

A shopping Centre here has recently installed a 737-800 simulator - i'm going to check it out , apparently you can fly the Kai Tak approach.

Will do!

When my son bought Microsoft Flight Simulator, I flew the 737 approach into Midway. The results were NOT pretty!

My wife and booked to fly from Melbourne to London back in 1998 on Cathay Pacific, just so we could fly into Kai Tak. We were flying in October and I was watching the news one night in July and saw that they had closed the airport. To say I was disappointed was an understatement.

However I did get to sit in a crew seat ( flight deck) on a BA 757 flight from Rome-London - that was excellent. Back in pre 9/11 days when a PPL could get you some time on the flight deck.

Hi I'd like to join in with a 1/72 Dash 8 done in Air Canada Jazz.

This is the Hobbycraft kit I'll be doing and it looks very sparse in detail. No panel lines to speak of which is ok due to the amount of filling and sanding my test fit shows. Ouch.

I'm building out of the box and I'm hoping a good paint job and nice decaling (the decals look good at least) will give this model some life.

This Dash 8 is a nice fast build for me after the months I've spent on my RCAF F-18A I'm just about to finish.

Here's a question. I also have on my short list an L1011 Tristar but it's RAF. I should consider this millitary yes? Or would that be allowed in an airliner GB?
