Capt. caveman - i just had a look at my kit , yeah i see the line you're talking about, i just had a look at reference pictures and i see it there too , thanks for pointing that out , i just might have sanded that smooth without thinking twice about it.

I’m not 100% set on the camo scheme yet but i just might go with ambush since that’s the only thing i have any experience with, i don’t think i will do zimerit though (this is going to be my 3rd kit, it's going to be my first time doing pe and metal tracks, i don't think I’ll have enough time in 2 months to add zim on top of that).

Tigerman- Know of any web stores that don't require a credit card? If one can still do the old style send them money and they send the goodies I'm all for that , if not I'll just have go see one of the shops.

Yeah i have tons of pics. I only took 190 last week though Cowboy [C):-)]

I have to go back for specific items though because there were so many items there that i could only get the 190 pics that i did. I wanted more time with the brumbar, hetzer, marder, and nashorn but the friend i was with was getting antsy and wanted to head home.

I have great pics of some russian stuff too, and the leopold (of course) Anzio Annie.

I''m glad you liked the pic, just so happens one of their panthers had that cast seam on it :)

Yes Chris. I have sent checks to www.greatmodels.com . After you're finished filling your cart, they print you a receipt which you mail in with your check. They might do money orders too. It took me about 12 days to get it. That's probably where I'll get the rest of what I need. Good luck.

Jon, you seem to have, or built a few Panthers, have you or anyone built an Italeri Jagdpanther? I was impressed with their Sturmtiger. Thanks.

i only paid $32.49 (including shipping) for the Panther G (w/ PE Zim)
(knock eBay all you want guys, it leaves more kits for me!!) Big Smile [:D]Big Smile [:D]
now i have a $7.60 Grille set, $9 barrel and $17 worth of track links.
so that's $33.60 of goodies !
any savings i enjoyed on the kit ($68 list, $54 at greatmodels) is now spent.

that's why armor is the 'Dark Side' Smile [:)]Tongue [:P]

kumakichi, Aberdeen is north of Baltimore by about 1/2 hour or so. I just recently went with a friend from pittsburgh. Maybe if we get enough people together one day we can meet up there. I live about 40 minutes from there. It is free to visit, its just an army base. Well its an incredibile base with lots of history. Smile [:)]

i posted pics in a diff post (http://www.finescale.com/fsm/community/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=8891) on the day i went they were using one of the firing ranges and we heard some big guns going off while browsing the "parking lot" of tanks.

I do have TONS and TONS of photos that are unsorted still from over the years Sad [:(] I will try to put up a gallery eventually.

That would be cool. I'm guessing it would be around a 5-6 hr drive for me. But I had no idea thats were it was. Thats so cool. I'll have to plan a trip... maybe for next spring.

Sorry to see you go HistoryinScale, but I totally understand.

Wildwilliam, I'm with you on aftermarket parts, they can really add up. That's why I'm watching what I buy. If I had bought the Dragon Late A, I at least could have saved on tracks.

Thanks Kennethc on the Italeri Jagdpanther, I think I will void that kit.

Nice photos Jon, that Schmalturm sure looks decayed.

It looks like a tight squeeze, doesn't it?

Is anyone building a Panther F or Panther II?

hey, just got back from hockey practice and now i think im gonna tackle that jagdpanther (early) from dml. So far i've taken it out of the box and have been admiring the sprues and what not. My main question is that it gives 2 choices for that rectangular thing behind the saukopf manlet, one that looks like cast and another one that has bolts or rivets in it. I want to make a jagdpanther that took part in the Ardennes campaign and was wondering which manlet shield to use. thanks for readin this post

Laxman, I would go with the smooth mantlet casing since I believe you have the early Jagdpanther. I have seen the bolted casing on late model versions only. However, since you have both, it might be okay to use the bolted. Didn't help much did I?

Well I ordered my Tamiya tracks and Eduard barrel. Almost didn't order the barrel, but it's going to be an early Christmas present. As a bonus, I finally ordered the Dragon Panther A Late. Wanted it since I saw it. Almost sorry I had Tamiya's G already. Banged Head [banghead] Should be ready to go soon.

Jon, in a fantasy world. LOL Laugh [(-D] I'll be lucky to complete one, let alone two. I really like the G, dare I say it, it's becoming my favorite tank. I may have to change my name to Pantherman. [:0]

Sorry to se you go Historyinscale but it is understandable. Keep us posted when you get it started.

IIRC the Bovington "F" turet was used for target practice after the war and the part on the cart was about all that was left.

HistoryinScale,
sorry to see you go. i understand abt the back orders and time constraints,
but the build doesn't start until December! Big Smile [:D]
just kidding. do what you gotta do. hope you drop in and visit us once we get going.
hopefully we will give out some info or pics that will aid you when you do get started.

Pantherman Tongue [:P][:0]
now that does have a ring to it!
now all i have to do is hope my various bits get here in time.
and that i get the Pzkpfw IV D off the bench and on the shelf (slacker!!)
been working on the vinyl tracks. they seem to be coming along.
but since it is my first armor kit, i haven't much to compare it to!

Wow! Been a lot of posts in the past few days. Ever since they changed the format, I am not getting a lot of the posting notifications. Don't know what's up with that.

Chris, sorry to see you go. But ya gotta do what ya gotta do! I've been wondering about this one myself. I'm still working on my Tiger from the 1/35th build (think I'm about the only one left!)

Eric (Tigerman, Pantherman...wherever or whoever you are today),
You mentioned about the DML tracks in the Panther kits. They look nice, very well cast, and actually look accurate (as opposed to their Elefant tracks), but one thing you gotta remember, every set of injection molded tracks I've seen (with the exception of the Elefant tracks), whether from DML or Tamiya, has had 3 to 5 ejector pin marks on every link. What a pain. The choices are to either ignore them or fill them. I've filled and sanded the "outer" ones on a bunch of the links and it really wasn't too bad. I think it's much easier to do that before gluing the links together. I really think I want to put a set of Model Kasten or Friulmodel on it. But Model Kastens are next to impossible to find, right now.Sad [:(]

My list of parts for this build (assuming I don't try to do the DML with superset) is:

(This is what I have so far)
Tamiya 35065 Panther - This is their old, decrepid, late A kit
Jordi Rubio TG-10 7.5cm Kwk L/70 Barrel (got it before Eduard did theirs)
Armor Research 1006 Engine Deck Vent Screens (beautiful)
Armor Research 5003 Corrected Turret Tamiya Panther A - resin turret including a white metal barrel (won't use the barrel)
Moskit 35-04 Metal Exhaust Pipes (these are cool!)

I am may add:
Independent link tracks of some sort
possible Eduards pe set for this tank, if I can find one, but I'm not going overboard on using these parts. Just a few to "dress it up"

Question [?]Has anyone found a source for a nice machine gun to mount on the commanders turret ring?

And my favorite icon... Banged Head [banghead] ...because that's what I feel like I'm doing most of the time!

Have a great day, y'all;

the other thing adout the dragon Panther tracks(i dont know if anyones mentioned this) is that they are missing the holes in the track horns
sometimes you can get away with ejector pin marks
