Dave, looks good. I also hate round curvey things that need a straight line/ masking. You may want to fix the front wheel, it looks kinda tippy and you should try to use some washes to bring out panel lines or lines between control surfaces and the wing. The big air force decals look pretty good and the paint job looks nice and smooth.

You other guys might want to hurry up!!!!!

YEAH!!!! I dropped a front wheel for my Do-335A-12, and while looking for that I found the rear ladder for this plane. I'm calling this one done. I still have to learn to mask off the round things...(on this one I'm refering to the Yellow ring that in on the engine cowling, I ended up trying my hand at brushing it, not so good.)

Several fit issues with this one, but I've had worse.

Comments & constructive crit. always welcome.

Started the He-111, looks like it's the old Italeri kit in all its raised panel glory.  Got the wings and stabilizers glued together.  Will post pics when I have something pic worthy.

I'm still here, been real busy.  I should have my A-20G done by Monday.  I'm not good at weathering so I've been a little intimidated by it on this plane.

I have been doing the painting on it but when i pulled of the tape for the masks, paint started to peel off. I'm finished!  One thing I'd like to do is take better pictures, so I apologize for the quality (or lack thereof) of these photographs.

B-25B Mitchell

B-26 - I used the color photograph from this book that I have as inspiration for the weathering, which was Tamiya soot and rust applied over Alclad II white aluminium.

Its comin along good! I use chalk pastels to make exhaust staining but it works better on a flat coat. You could also try using a oil wash.

Some progress pictures.   I am getting close on the B-26 and am not far behind with the Mitchell.  Both of these kits have fought me at nearly every step, or so it seems.  I had expected that with the old Monogram kit but not with the Accurate Miniatures B-25.

B-25 - the wings are not yet attached, they are just put on for the picture.  I put down a coat of Future and let it sit for a day before masking the wing de-icers, but as the picture shows some of the olive drab lifted nevertheless.  Probably didn't get it well coated there or didn't let it cure long enough.

B-26 - nothing to really point out here as yet.  Since the photo was taken I have since put on the decals in preparation for some pretty heavy weathering.  Photos I have show the undersides of these bombers got really dirty, oil streaked, and grimy.

My A-20 has been sitting for a while but I'll edit this post this weekend with some of the work I've gotten done this week.  Funny how you get on to other builds and get distracted for a while.  I'm ready to get this one done.

Some progress to report on my builds.  I've had some unexpected time at the bench due to Hurricane Ike, in and around hurricane winds, loss of power, and clean up activities.

B-25 - not as much progress on this kit, just finished up the window maskings (Acc.Min provides masking material like Eduard canopy masks but some of the pieces are cut too big for the actual kit).

B-26 - have finished constructing all of the individual components and have put down a nice coat of Krylon gloss black in preparation for the Alclad II painting sessions to come.

I've made a lot of progress on my builds for this GB but for some reason have been so focused on building that I've forgotten to take a bunch of photographs.  Sorry!!!!

So I've taken a few today to post.

Accurate Miniatures B-25B Doolittle Raider - it's been a while since I put together an Acc.Min kit, but I don't remember having so much fight to get one together as this one.  All of that wonderful detail is crammed into that tight fuselage and it was difficult to get the pieces to mate together properly.  In the end I believe I only have one small seam to fill, because once I got them to click together, they acted like they had been that way all along.

Here's a decent shot of the seam I'm going to have to deal with:

The bomb bay with the additional fuel tank that was collapsible once it was empty:

The upper gun turret - instructions said to install it but I'm going to get it in there through the upper turret opening:

The nose floor board:

Monogram B-26 Marauder - this is one of those old kits that fights you most of the way.  This example included a bunch of resin extras but most of those pieces I've had to leave out.  Had I installed the cockpit side walls I would not have been able to install the resin floorboard, ditto with the front wheel well.  I have put together the fuselage and masked all of the windows (except for the observer windows located in multiple places, I'll get to that later).  I also installed all of the gear doors as this bird will be "flying" along side my other medium bombers currently hanging in my garage.

The bomb bay:

Here the wings are simply hanging from the fuselage frame, they are not attached yet.  I'm still debating whether I'm ready to attach the wings at this point.  I plan to paint this in an all aluminum scheme using Alclad II paints on top of a Krylon gloss black primer.  I already know there is going to be some seam work required on both the wings and the engine nacelles, but I may elect to leave all of that off and paint each piece individually, weather each, then attach and do the putty work, then paint over the seams from there.  Not sure yet.

Ryan, sorry but I don't have a scanner to send you the picture I am using from the book I have, the Warbird Tech series on the B-26.  I'm not even sure I can describe it, but the big rounded part appears to be completely free of any framework.  There's a smaller window on each side directly beneath the stabilizers, and perhaps a second even smaller window below that.  Hasn't been real clear even with the book.

Edit - ooops, I got mixed up on which turret you were talking about and mistakenly thought the tail gun.  Well, today is the first day of school here, so perhaps I should go back for some reading comprehension?  Smile [:)]

I now have the major assembly done. Because this is such an old kit the wings and fuselage needed lots of putty as you will see in the pictures.

Well, caught another snag. Waiting for a photoetch bender to come in. I've seen a few different ways of going about bending it and this just seems the "safest".

Seeing if there isn't a few other things I can do on it while waiting for that to come in.

Well, though it was an uphill battle all the way, my B-25 is finally done.  This is the Revell B-25, box scale [around 1/96th] and the mold is from 1953. I built it mostly OOB, with only minor scratch building to add a rear bulkhead to the cockpit and nose gunner [to hide the lead weights.] The color is a mixture that I had made up for my P-39Q, however it came out very different on this model due to its grey primer base, versus the OD base of the -39.  Enjoy!

Well, I finished the Romeo 57 Bis.  So I decided to go back to my original entry and do it as well.  Its the Monogram 1/72 Classic B-25.  I'm building this for this build, the bomber/escort/tanker build, and the classic kit build....since it goes for all three.

The figures arent the best, so they got basic painting.  I did manage to scratchbuild some bulkheads in the ockpit and nose to block off the open fuselage [showing the nose weights].  Speaking of weights, I THOUGHT I was good when I put 4 pine wood derby weights under the cockpit....wrong.  I had to add two to each engine nacelle [front of it] and another 3 to the nose before it would sit right.  And speaking of stance, when on its wheels, should a B-25 have a nose up cant, or should the fuselage be parallel to the ground?  The kit gear gives it a very visible upward cant.  Oh, and masking the canopy was a nightmare.  The molded in frame....is on the inside. The outside is perfectly smooth.

Here's a few pics so far.

Can't wait to see the new bomb bay. I have always liked bigger planes too. I had a ton of fun with my 1/48 Revell B-17

Ordered a Eduard bomb bay detail kit for the B-26 as the stock Revell one is pretty sparse. So when that gets in i'll post a few pics.

Finished the top turret and gunner that goes in it. Also got the props done.

I can't wait until it gets near completion, it's gonna' be pretty cool looking. I've always loved bigger planes.

So, this is what I have been given to work with ...

And this is what I would like it to look a little more like ...

Any ideas? Specifically on what size wire I should use for all the lines?

No pictures as of yet but I got the inside of the fuselage halves painted up interior green and also one of the turrets. Started on the props too.

Hopefully I can get to posting some pictures tomorrow. (After I go watch a B-17 land here in Spokane, YAY!).

Here is a cool B-26 Marauder video I found on YouTube.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NESw-Pfp6cg

In between minutes 8 and 9 there is some footage of a direct flak hit on one. And towards the begining there is one flying on one engine. Really cool video!

Another update!

I scratchbuilt the whole radio compartment to hide the weights that will be able to be seen through the cockpit. I also glued the elevators on (these came seperate from the hortizontal stabilizers). I also glued the tail together. I cut off the rudder's trim tab and glued it on in a different position to give it some character:

lookinn good. What kind of engines did the Havoc use?

According to Daveswarbirds.com it used Wright R-2600-23 with 1600 hp each.

Yep, just to interject on the A-20 powerplant, Horse Power was its' achillies heel. A couple hundred or so per would have helped. The basic design was there, just didn't have the Nads to get it done.

Just build it (and post pics when youre done)

Nice work guys', I think the Havoc had the Wright Cyclone 2600's. I'll have to check that as I have that A/C in my stash. Very cool aircraft designed by some of the best at that time.

I'll have some WIP pics soon, only have some glue ups as of yet.

Update Time!

Here's the nose and the instrument panel:

Here is one of the props that still needs some silver paint chipping and the tires that I flattened with a file:

And finally here is the bomb bay that will be opened up. The big box in the back is a fuel tank that could be added to the aft bay. I didn't know what it looked like so I kinda imagined it up. The tank will be covered up:

These are the bay doors:

Thanks, all comments welcomed.

Wings

That Cant Z.1007 has always been an eyecatcher for me. I have a set of RCR PE for it and Sky Decals set for Italian medium bombers so I have a good range of choices for it. This aircraft performed well but had an Achilles Heel. The wings were wooden which made it vulnerable to tracer ammo which would start fires easily. It was one of the bombers used heavily in the attacks upon Malta.

Dave! It's moving along! When I had that type of wing root problem, I would glue in a piece of sheet styrene as a 'backing' before gluing the fuse together (That's if I thought to check that fit first!)

A backing will help avoid major putty shrinkage and make things easier on you.....if it's too late for that option......you must be patient.....feed some putty in with a toothpick and build it out slowly (a little blast of a primer paint will help keep shrinkage between putty coats, also). Once the putty is applied to a sanding stage.....careful shaping of the wing root with a triangular jeweler's file is best to start with.

The file (careful file!) shouldn't mar the surroundings. You need to go slowly at this point until you get to a point where you can use a fine sanding stick or very fine wet sandpaper to finish off the joint.

Hope this helps!

Hey Wings,

If its accepted, I'd like to switch my entry to an Italian IMAM Romeo 57bis.  The 57bis was a single seat bomber and carried one 500lb andtwo 250lb bombs.  It also had two 20mm cannons in the nose. I started it about a week ago, and didnt realize till now that its also a bomber.

I've been working on the cockpit, scratchbuilding, painting and assembling. Here are some pics of the office before paint:

And with some paint:

The items higlighted in green are the scratchbuilt parts:

In the fuse:

This is the front landing gear bay. It was on the underside of the cockpit floor so I thought I'd show it off. Nothing on this was from scratch:

Have you thought about using putty tho fill it in? I usually use that and it works great. You could also cut some styrene strips to shove in there- then fill it with gap filling super glue. The others will probably have some ideas too.

Alright y'all, status report....have some stuff together, canopies masked & painted...but a bit of an issue w/the wing roots....advice on how to remedy really appreciated.

Photobucket" border="0" />Photobucket" border="0" />

Wow, I suck at these picky thingys...anywho...the shadow there at the wingroot is a gap between the wing and the recessed outline molded into the fuselage for the wing...I need to know the best way to solve the problem.

I humbly bow to those that ahve the knowledge to fix it & await the solution.

Hey guys, I decided to redo the scratchbuilt dorsal turret. I didn't like how short the gun barrels looked, so I made some new ones. I also added an ammo belt. Here she is:

This one even moves up + down better than the original:

Monogram Pro-Modeler put one out 10-12 years ago but it's probably out of production now.  Maybe check the Revell of Germany releases, or EBay.  It's a great kit, one of the first I built when I got back into the hobby.

Dostacos, The P-38 J droop snoot was a light bomber. It is very close to the specs for the group build. I'm really streching it here but I'll let you join.

I will look for a medium bummer, and do the P 38 in the P 38 build. I was looking for a medium bummer when I spotted the P 38 it is different enough that I will use it there. how about the Mosquito? if not it will be a Revell B 26 in 1/72  since I don't have ANY of these yet no need to stretch the rules

Has anyone started thier models? I've been scratchbuilding a new dorsal turret and details in the interior. I'll probably have some pics of the turret tomarrow. I decided to build the "Yankee Guerilla" that came from the kit. I hope the decals work okay.

Great,

I think the B-17 was considered more of a heavy bomber than a medium bomber.

Raptor, I think the BF-110 was considered more of a heavy fighter than a bomber, kind of like a P-38. Sorry about that.

Here is a great walkaround reference. This website is good for most any kind of plane, tank, ship, etc. If you look under Props at the right you should find your plane:

Bummer. Is it allied only?  I don't know about bombers.  I'm more of the hack and slash planes.  I have a JU-88 and a 17.  Either those work?

Mist, the B-24 doesn't fit into the guidelines for this GB. If you look at page 1 you'll see the medium bomber's ranges, weight loads, etc. The B-24 is actually a heavy bomber and is over the guidelines. Do you have any other planes that fit for this GB? Sorry about that.

I'll join in this one.  My other 2 GB' entries are nearing completion.  I'll be doing a 1/48th Monogram B-24J.  It'll fit nicely next to the B-25J i just completed.

I guess the new badge is official.

I opened up  my B-26 today (got it in the mail) and saw there are raised panel lines on the fuselage. Do you guys have any tips for me to scribe them? Also i found that there is a lot of detail on the bulkheads and engines, but not much detail in other places. Do you guys know of any detail sets or good references so I can scratch build?

The photo itself is way cool!......Perhaps if you could print "WWII Medium Bomber" across the wings......and add "G B" over the stabilizers.....the contrast would make even smaller font easier to read.

One the other hand.....I knew what it said without having to really read it....so I'm happy with the original.

I got those two kits A and B.

Mirage Hobby made those as short runs. Out of production for some time. Those may be available somewhere at LHS but squadron does not have them anymore.  The kit has a lot of aftermarket parts and i am going to get all available including engine details.

I saw one very bad review of this kit made by Swanny but to build this kit you have to dedicate your hearth to it Smile [:)] otherwise it will be a struggle.

I saw absolutely fantastic builds of this kit and I wish I can make something like that.

This model was made by Maciek Zywczyk
