Hey guys, I decided to redo the scratchbuilt dorsal turret. I didn't like how short the gun barrels looked, so I made some new ones. I also added an ammo belt. Here she is:

the ammo belts:

This one even moves up + down better than the original:

In the fuse.:

Alright y'all, status report....have some stuff together, canopies masked & painted...but a bit of an issue w/the wing roots....advice on how to remedy really appreciated.

Photobucket" border="0" />Photobucket" border="0" />

Wow, I suck at these picky thingys...anywho...the shadow there at the wingroot is a gap between the wing and the recessed outline molded into the fuselage for the wing...I need to know the best way to solve the problem.

I humbly bow to those that ahve the knowledge to fix it & await the solution.

Have you thought about using putty tho fill it in? I usually use that and it works great. You could also cut some styrene strips to shove in there- then fill it with gap filling super glue. The others will probably have some ideas too.

I put you down on the list and no, your not late at all. This thing ends in March 09. I figured everyone was caught up in other GB's so I'd give them some time to join in.

Sweet! Thanks.

On wikipedia it says the Dornier is a heavy bomber, but since its specs are close to the guidelines for this GB I'll let you build it. Tell me if you want me to put it on the list.

I use "liguid paper" to fill gaps on my a/c.  It works pretty good!  I use a sharp tooth pick to clean it up after it dries.  I hope this helps you out!

Nah, i'll just stick to the B-26. Looks like a fun kit and the Dornier will get built eventually.

Time for an update!

I've been working on the cockpit, scratchbuilding, painting and assembling. Here are some pics of the office before paint:

And with some paint:

The items higlighted in green are the scratchbuilt parts:

In the fuse:

This is the front landing gear bay. It was on the underside of the cockpit floor so I thought I'd show it off. Nothing on this was from scratch:

All comments welcomed.

Looking good.  I got the interior painted and will get my office working this weekend hopefully.  Two projects going on at the same time.  I think after I do this 1/32 Spitfire, I'm going to stick to my 1/48 stuff for a while.  So much detail to do on the big bird I don't feel like I'm getting anywhere.Big Smile [:D]

I would like to join this GB. My subject would be the old Supermodel 1/72 Cant Z.1007 with the twin tails.

Hey Wings,

If its accepted, I'd like to switch my entry to an Italian IMAM Romeo 57bis.  The 57bis was a single seat bomber and carried one 500lb andtwo 250lb bombs.  It also had two 20mm cannons in the nose. I started it about a week ago, and didnt realize till now that its also a bomber.

Dave! It's moving along! When I had that type of wing root problem, I would glue in a piece of sheet styrene as a 'backing' before gluing the fuse together (That's if I thought to check that fit first!)

A backing will help avoid major putty shrinkage and make things easier on you.....if it's too late for that option......you must be patient.....feed some putty in with a toothpick and build it out slowly (a little blast of a primer paint will help keep shrinkage between putty coats, also). Once the putty is applied to a sanding stage.....careful shaping of the wing root with a triangular jeweler's file is best to start with.

The file (careful file!) shouldn't mar the surroundings. You need to go slowly at this point until you get to a point where you can use a fine sanding stick or very fine wet sandpaper to finish off the joint.

Hope this helps!

Wings! Great progress! As you know I'm starting the same kit.......you scratch stuff in nice! The highlights of the nose gear bay are well done too! Those d@mned tubular seat legs always look too big to me, But what are you gonna do?

I'm thinking of painting mine a shade of green with maybe a black accent to try and shrink their size to the eye.

I'm off all next week and should have some WIP pics for the site!

Edit!: Those guns look much better! Nice work! I felt they were short, but wasn't sure.

Wings

That Cant Z.1007 has always been an eyecatcher for me. I have a set of RCR PE for it and Sky Decals set for Italian medium bombers so I have a good range of choices for it. This aircraft performed well but had an Achilles Heel. The wings were wooden which made it vulnerable to tracer ammo which would start fires easily. It was one of the bombers used heavily in the attacks upon Malta.

Hey 12wings, I'm not part of this GB, but I have a suggestion on your pit.  the scratchbuilt stuff looks great.  But have you tried washes or drybrushing in there? That would make it look even better and really pop out the detail. Great work though so farBig Smile [:D]

thanks,

I was thinking of doing that but kind of forgot about it and got caught up with the bomb bay. Thanks for reminding me.

I thought you were building the Revell kit? Anyway, thanks for the input.

Update Time!

Here's the nose and the instrument panel:

Here is one of the props that still needs some silver paint chipping and the tires that I flattened with a file:

And finally here is the bomb bay that will be opened up. The big box in the back is a fuel tank that could be added to the aft bay. I didn't know what it looked like so I kinda imagined it up. The tank will be covered up:

These are the bay doors:

Thanks, all comments welcomed.

Hey guys! I have a Italeri B-25 I just opened and started some glue up. Can I join? My first GB?

Would love to build a model with some Bros.

And exchange some insights and tips on the build process?

I looked at some other GB's and I thought this one fits the B-25 pretty good.

Looking thru the build log you guys are doing some mighty fine work.

I'm in if it's OK?

Just build it (and post pics when youre done)

Nice work guys', I think the Havoc had the Wright Cyclone 2600's. I'll have to check that as I have that A/C in my stash. Very cool aircraft designed by some of the best at that time.

I'll have some WIP pics soon, only have some glue ups as of yet.

Just build it (and post pics when youre done)

According to Daveswarbirds.com it used Wright R-2600-23 with 1600 hp each.

Yep, just to interject on the A-20 powerplant, Horse Power was its' achillies heel. A couple hundred or so per would have helped. The basic design was there, just didn't have the Nads to get it done.

Just build it (and post pics when youre done)
