Hey Boyd, don't worry about the halftrack GB - it won't get going for a while. I'm thinking probably about 5 months in the making - maybe an end of summer sort of dealie. September 1 to the end of December? Something like that. Allllll 251 series, btw. None of those "other" halftracks. Wink [;)]

Guys:  We're up to nine participants so far!!!  If you're still considering joining there's plenty of time...There's no modern era tanks yet either, c'mon we need at least one of those!!!

Between scrambling to finish a project for a model show, finishing a website by a deadline, and photographing a wedding and then having to make all sorts of picture CD's for everybody's step-third cousin, I've had no problem with excess spare time recently. I'll try to get some work done on it within the next couple days - sorry for the delay.

I bought the Panzerwrecks books on eBay today, a friend of mine has #2 and there are some Vienna photos in there, so I hope to have a definitive choice for an entry soon.

dupes:  I like the photo!, dostacos has a similar idea (scroll up), you guys may be able to benefit from each other, especially the building and barrier part of the dio'.  Would you add the soldier and the casualities?  That wheelbarrow would be a nice touch too.

Heh. That Pershing is quite the monster. What a brute! Mischief [:-,]

SMJ - the Sherman pic I was referring to in the PM is this one:

I think I'll be going either this route, or one of the Tiger pics I've got...which I still need to scan in and fire onto Photobucket. I'll get it done one of these days, seriously! Ashamed [*^_^*]

Count me in for this GB.  I'll either do the Pershing in Cologne that dueled with the Panther in front of the Cathedral, or my Dragon KingTiger with zimmerit in the defense of Budapest.

Here are two photos of the Pershing as it advances towards its encounter with the Panther at the Cologne Cathedral.

I posted a link and some info regarding the Pershing/Panther encounter in the original idea thread, which you can find here.

Guys: Instead of individual replies to all, please go see current participant list at top of page.  I'll put you down with the info you gave me so far.  Keep me updated, thanks...

MrSquid2U:  I definately encourage all skill levels to join, and don't let the dio part deter you.  With the help on the forum, I'm sure we'll find something that suits you.  Even if you find a great picture and a big dio' seems like too much, I would recommend that you pick a small portion of the scene and try to replicate it...remember good karma's in your pocket.  I'd gladly work with anybody, kind of a "on the fly" tutorial (trails and tribulations more-like), when I/ we start our buildings!

jadgpanther302(is that spelling correct?): Sorry, you'll have to save that 1/2-track for another GB.  Review your stash for tanks and get back to me, love to have you join usThumbs Up [tup]!!!

It wasn't babbling to me! That's how little I know about the actual deployment of a SturmTiger! A modest dio set in the final defense of Berlin sounds awfully appealing! Perhaps someone has a link to a recognizable Berlin landmark of the period with a SturmTiger? I'm just hoping my ambition doesn't outpace my ability?

Thanks

I'm pretty sure SMJ was shooting specifically for tanks - the "other armor" idea came up in the pre-GB discussion, and I believe was vetoed. Check with him, though. Wink [;)]

You should save that halftrack anyway...there's going to be a 251 series halftrack build coming up sometime soon. Or, so I hear! Laugh [(-D]

I would deffinetely like to join with something, this group build has a really cool premise. Probably something russian, as I've got Tamiya's russian infantry to use in a possible dio. The ideas are already swimming around my head.

Gang,

Let me throw this out for your consideration regarding myself:

I'd love to participate in my very first group build. I've been here awhile and I'm envious of the comraderie within the GBs and then those cool badges of honor you get to proudly display!

So, I'm somewhat a novice within this genre and know full well I won't be turning any heads if and when I do participate but I think I would like to try if you can see fit to help guide me along? I would say that I'm "weak" at the historical particulars of the plastic models at my disposal within my stash. One subject that springs forward with good potential is a Tamiya Sturmtiger. That beast had to find itself in an urban warfare setting, right? I have the kit, an Eduards PE set meant to stuff more in the interior than I would have thought of and some supplies to add zimmerit even though I have not attempted that before. I foresee needing some PE for the exterior but otherwise I think I'm set for this one except for knowing what to do with it!

I'd like to ask if anyone has a link to pictures showing the Sturmtiger in an urban setting to aid my effort at getting the correct camo and markings and maybe even a limited dio to represent that setting?

So, can anyone provide some links to help me assess what I might be up against?

Thanks in advance!

So its final now huh?

Well then, I will build Dragons 1/35 15cm Sturm-Infanteriegeschutz 33 auf Pz III during the battle of Stalingrad. I think there were only 24 built 12 of which were sent to the 'Grad. All were lost. Gonna be tough finding photo refs.

Ahh, I'll have to email the stash excel file. Can't do it right now, but I'll shoot it to you this afternoon. Wink [;)]

dupes: Glad you're joining in!!!, Hey, send me another PM of your stashDinner [dinner](I just deleted it), or take a close-up of just your tanks and I'll help you brainstorm somethingTongue [:P]. dostacos posted that pic' in my "inquiry' thread for this GB...you're telling me, I love that one!  Hopefully he'll add the building.

dostacos:  Thanks for jumpin' into this GB!!!  Go check out Verlinden's stuff for prebuilt dio' buildings.  I'm not sure if they have 1:48 stuff, but it'd be worth a look.

Hermesminiatures:  I knew you'd be in on this one, what took you so longWink [;)]?, glad to have you aboardPirate [oX)]!!!  I don't think I've seen any of your builds, but I like your choices.  For my Panther A, can I go with Dark Yellow, no camo'?  Not wimpin' outApprove [^] just want to know my options.  I'm excited to see your progress on the badge.

I'm in too!

Probably an ISU-122 or -152 in Budapest or Warsaw, but I'll have to do some research myself. Probably a dio if I have the time.

I Have done some work on the badge, I have a couple different ideas, I'll send you a draft in a day or two.

Alright sir, I am in. Big Smile [:D] I'm assuming that his is going to be the "official" thread from here on in?

My subject is: TBD!

I'm still poking around my refs. Currently leaning towards a Tiger for both stash and lots-of-pics reasons... Saw a lot of good stuff in the GB-probe thread though, I'm sure I'll make up my mind some time soon. Also have to see what's available for pre-built dio stuff in case I'm too swamped in GB's to try to scratch something.

Urban Armor GB, May 1-Dec 31, 2008
Posted by SMJmodeler on Friday, February 22, 2008 8:12 PM

The spirit of this GB is to depict a tank in its "Urban Attire"  A dio' IS NOT required but definately encouraged.  This GB is for tanks from WWII to the present.  The requirements for this GB are that you choose either of the following options:

Option #1: An Urban Diorama with Tank that's a "reasonably accurate" portrayal of an urban contextHistorical proof will not be required (but encouraged), since it's already in the spirit of this Group Build.

Option #2: A Stand-Alone Tank will require some form of "reasonable proof", be it pictures, text, or video footage, to confirm it's validity as "Urban Armor".  The object here is to model the tank as seen in the photo or video.  If text is the only proof, research should be included to determine markings and context.

Please submit your entry with the option you are choosing.  If you choose option #1 please include a dio' description.  If you choose option #2, please post your "reasonable proof".  Please also include the model manufacturer, scale and tank.

Hermesminiatures has volunteered to help in the research and photo department.  If you have a kit in your stash (tank) that you'd like to enter, but don't have an idea for this GB, please post it and we'll do our best to help get you involved.
