Great job, everyone Thumbs Up [tup]

I finally got everything in to give this bird another go.  Got the Tammy -1D, the Eduard 'pit set, the resin gun bays and the canopy masks.

I'm nearing completion of a Bearcat that I started in the meantime.  I hope to start the corsair over the next weekend.

Thanks for the comments.  I am taking a break this week to finish up a DC-6, then will raid my wifes petticure supplies for acrylic powder to repair my canopy.  Hope to be finished up in a few weeks on the Corsair.

Cheers,

Scott

Great looking night Corsair, and Daywalker, wonderful job.  Fred, I know what you are going through. I just painted mine and everything turned out fine, except a clogging airbrush.  But that wasn't the worse part, I have had some pretty bad luck lately with liquid mask so I switched brands to Microsol and ended up with a pin hole when I painted the canopy.  Now I have a big blue goober dead nut in the center of my canopy.  Even worse, since I was having a hard time airbrushing acrylics, I changed to an enamel so this bugger isn't coming off.

Here is the painted bird minus the canopy.

Hey everyone...Finally broke sprue last night on my Birdcage Corsair!!Make a Toast [#toast] Working on the pit and found the Eduard PE seat a bit too wide so opting to use the kit seat (which really isnt bad for Tamiya)..think I'll sand down the sides a bit to give it more of a thinner look.

Harv, two days of hard work, dedication, fights with carpet monster and only 5% of it will be visible Smile [:)] isn't it awful ?

I also spent some long hours on mine and finally I think its done. When I closed the cockpit .... not much can be seen there Smile [:)]

OK guys. I have been working on the left pannel for 2 days now, and I`m gona call it done. The upper quadrent was a bear. I redid the knobs 3 times, lost a couple to the carpet monster also. Darn there small!! But here it is, I must say I`m very happy with the hard work. Of course all feedback, good or bad is always welcome..........Harv

Beautiful job, Frank!!  That is a great looking Corsair!  I think I read earlier that you undercoated with silver to get that very realistic weathered look - it's great.  Thumbs Up [tup] Thumbs Up [tup]

Looks like you have a great start, too, Greg.  Looking forward to more pics.

I'm just getting mine out of the box after finishing my Mustang for that GB, but am feeling a bit intimidated after seeing the great work in this thread.   Sigh [sigh]   I've seen some neat ideas in here and hope to steal some of them.  (That's my privilege as a relative newcomer, isn't it?  Whistling [:-^] )

Yup, Frank, once again: great build and a great addition to your collection !

Now a bit update on my entry. It is a Tamiya 1/48 Mk II.

I am close to finish the cockpit and close the fuselage. I used the conversion set to Mk II and Eduard PE parts (some... not proficient with dealing with PE parts yet Sad [:(])

Here are some pictures...

Gents, I finished my Corsair early this morning!  Burned the midnight oil till 1 am local time, but glad I did as I slept like a baby knowing she was finished.  Here are some pics, thanks for looking!

Built mostly OOB, with Eduard seatbelts being the only addition.  Painted with Gunze acrylics, and I used the provided kit decals.  I had originally intended to use a set from Super Scale for a bird from VMF-312 (checkerboards) but the decals really did not fit so I opted to build a fairly fresh airframe.  I like the contrast of the smooth, semi-gloss airframe and the really beat up napalm tanks.  The rockets have added arming wires with tiny blobs of glue painted to represent the connectors.  Added some brake lines from fine wire, and the antenna from 2lb fishing line.  The drop tanks alone took many, many hours but they are worth it IMHO.  Thanks for taking a look fellas! Thumbs Up [tup]

Thanks for taking a look, much appreciated! Big Smile [:D]  Thanks everyone for making this such a fun GB!  I will still be lurking around, thinking about which Corsair to build next! Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Should've come up with that idea yesterday, Summit Laugh [(-D]

Now she's in many, many pieces, but I salvaged the pit and gunbay.  Between the scribing fiasco and the gut feeling i had about the wing fold, I think she's in a better place now.

Fred, instead of scrapping your project how about going a different direction - such as a crashed/stripped  corsair or better yet one being maintained with open engine cowlings,  make up some tissue tarps to throw over your lost or non- satisfactory scribed lines.  No rules in the GB that it has to be flight ready  Wink [;)] I have a stash of B-17 f kits I want to build as crashed and captured subjects sometime down the road.

Fred-

As for using your AM cockpit on the Tamiya kit, I have to tell you that the office on the -4 is quite different from the cockpit on the -1's.  4's had a cockpit floor, where the earlier models were open all the way to the bottom of the fuselage.

Harv- Excellent work there!  Love that duct hose, wish I had seen that before I did mine!  Ah, well...I am CERTAIN there is another Corsair in my future! Big Smile [:D]

ok, I'll keep the pit for another -4D.

Does anyone know if the Aires gunbay for the Tammy -1 will fit in the Tammy -1D?

Thanks,

Fred
