S.A.R., you've been had. Wait...that didn't sound right...let's try again: welcome aboard! Sign - Welcome [#welcome]. I'm about half way through the same kit...it's a good one.

I don't get angry, I just start a new project while I try to fix the problem. I have a rather large "in progress" stack. Smile [:)]

I know what you mean about the "Quick builds"...they no longer exist in my world. Anything within a month I consider a "weekend build". But it sounds like you're taking  it all in stride which is good. The THunderjet builds into such a nice bird when it's done. Looking forward to yours.

I have actually done some work on the Thunderjet, but nothing to show for it. Cockpit is done, that much went fine, but when painted all the NMF parts black it didn't set right, instead of gloss black I got a weird rough satinlike finish. I threw it into CSC to strip the paint and it won't come off after 3 days of soaking (maybe old, I've used it to strip chrome off several times), I'm going to try some fresh CSC, if that doesn't work then I guess its time for the oven cleaner.

So much for a quicky build. Smile [:)]

It's actually just a reboxing of the Italeri kit but with the solid gun nose and for once am going to try and avoid AMS and build this baby OOB, wish me luck.

Sorry for the late reply...I've been away on vacation. Ity would be an honor to have you join. I've always thought the A/B-26's were the coolest of the propeller age bombers.

Steven - very nice tigercat, always loved the lines of that plane

John - Great job on the cart and the engine.. and the build itself! Quite the WIP you have going, look forward to the rest! Good pit,

GA.modelmaker - Jeep coming along great

deathrattler32 - goodie to the B-29.. interesting the "censored" part, never heard of that one!

harv - Hey, I got two of those! (target cabinets ;) And thanks for sharing all that great info on the F-86.. look forward to the rest of the pit (and plane!)  not sure about planes, but in WW2 armor, "bis" meant "second" type, like the French Char Bi Bis. IIRC, a slighty improved version that does not warrant a new version "number".

mucker - cool looking Mig! and nice engine....

I finally caught up with all the great work in here... my only "Forgotten war" activity has been reading Max Hastings book on Korean War, which I heartilly recommend. Wont start building anything for couple months as I finish other GBs... cheers

All right, Carlos!!!! The only problem is you probably need a bigger house now so you can display that beast!!! That is one big plane. Like i said in the other forum...well worth the time and effort. Very nice modelling.

That's a sweet looking Mig-15 so far.  The cockpit and engine look amazing.

Mucker, I knew you`d make an awsome MIG! It looks great. The engine is too cool.Keep posting.

John, thanks for the pics. I know I`ve seen one pic somewhere of a pilot stepping up on this door, but the wing part was still attached to the door. I cant remember where I saw it. I tried doing some searching ealier, but came up emptyhanded. But good info...........Harv

I've got some business travel and then vacation from Thursday thru the weekend, which means no bench time for a week!!!

Here's my progress on the Mig-15 so far, so you don't think I'm slacking! Excellent kit so far...stereotypical Tamiya.

Harv, an F-86F built with or modified to the 6-3 wing, with or without slats, has a modified amumunition door with a glove fairing for the wing.  The wing has a triangular section at the leading edge root that was held to the wing with one bolt through its leading edge, and had to be removed separately before the door could be opened.  The early wing ended aft of the door and faired nicely with the shape of the fuselage at the leading edge root.  Here are some photos of the F-86F-20 at McClellan that has the 6-3 hard wing modification.  It was originally built as a slatted original chord wing at the Columbus, Ohio plant.

Excellent, Carlos! I've not built one but heard it's a nice kit (same molds as the Trumpeter)

Hey, there's no rules against a "Father/Son" entry for this GB....<hint, hint>. It's a good age to get them involved. On a rainy weekend a few months back I assembled the Testors Spad XIIIC in the white plastic stage and let my 3 year old go at it with the paint.

It's displayed in the case along with mine and whenever anyone visits he beams with pride announcing that he "built this one".

nice work Jeaton!!!  at 4 in the morning I would have cut off a few finger tips!

I agree with Charles....tough to do work on the weekends...kids are up early...maybe late at night you get some time in...

By the way...got my Panther kit in the mail yesterday....of course my 3 year old already laid claim to it..."it's mine right daddy!!??"....no defense against that..

Its the Hobbycraft kit...anybody build it??Pointer, "heads up" or advice?? I also got the PE set for it...

John, your work is fantastic! I`m really impressed with what you`ve done sofar! I do have 1 question, though. And please correct me if I`m wrong. I`ve seen pics of the ammo door down; and yes they used it as a step; But thedoor was accualy part of the wing root. So a part of the wing by the fussalage(sp) came down also. Dont know what model it was though. But keep us posted. This will be one sweet bird!..............Harv

Excellent stuff, John. My kids still wake up at 6-ish (on the weekends only!) so if by some chance I woke up at 4:00, I'd be asleep again in record time. I'll take all the sleep I can get!

That's tremendous work you're doing there. It really adds to  the overall build. I'm learning a lot from your build, so please keep posting the progress pics.

I woke up at 4 am today and the eyes were just not going to shut again, so I went out and started scratching on plastic.  I cut out the ammunition door on the left side, and boxed it in with thin sheet plastic.  while I was doing that I made a master out of plastic and balsa of one of the magazines.  The silicone mold cured rather quickly, or else I got away with using it sooner than I should have because I cast three resin magazines, and glued them in the box.  I added some plastic strip to replicate the framing and step on the ammunition door, and when I looked up from the bench it was all done.  What happened?  It came out better than I thought I could do it.  A Good Day!!  But, will I still love it tomorrow?  You bet.  I've been dreading this job, but now I dood it.
