Jmart-thanks.  The Sherman build just wasn't fun.  Maybe more time/more skills would have helped, but time to move on.  I am looking foreward to seeing your Bulldog.

Aaron-the helo is looking good.  Keep the pics coming.

Ok, didn't get these posted last night, instead I spent several hours cutting a lady out of her car. The lady should be ok in a few months but her car is in little pieces, the tree she hit should be fine though.

Based on the instructions this would just be blue, but I saw a pic of another USMC H-19 with these red markings and really liked it. Probably did a bit more flying over water or maybe just hadn't been repainted yet after arriving in Korea.

Extension? umm... I may re-open the Bulldog box and re-start, also got the AFV links (this is the old Tamiya offering). Will post some pics soon, may give it a shot. (Dont worry Dupes, 251 still on sched! Laugh [(-D] )

Bob - bummer about the Sherman...

Mike - as I said before, send some hear our way, NE USA is having record low temps....  a problem since my paint booth is in an unheated attached garage

Aaronw - look forward to your build!

Thanks for the additional time, I could have probably snuck the H-19 under the wire, but it would have been a rush job. I ran across a good photo of a USMC H-19 from 1953 like the one Italeri has decals for, it gave a me a few ideas. With the extra time I'm using the photo to guide me on painting instead of following the Italeri instructions completely. Similar but a little more interesting than the paint scheme in the kit.

Pics of my progress to follow (I hope).

Sorry to hear that, Bob. I've been there before, myself.

As you're enjoying the heat wave, Mike, I was digging myself out of 12 inches of snow. It was like the winter campaign in Korea....

Hi Mucker -- many thanks for the extension (flexible deadlines are a luxury in life!) Phew! Now I'm positive I can get my badge, especially as the good news is Squadron just delivered, the canopy masks for both Mustang and Corsair have arrived. The heatwave marches on, last night we had our record 'low' of 33.9C/94F...

Mucker-thanks for the extension, but the Sherman is DOA Dead [xx(].  I reviewed the alignment of the road wheels and they aren't salvageable-at least not by me.  Had I known then what I know now, I would have drilled some alignment holes to assist.  Chalk one up for experience.  Unfortunatly, I don't have anything else in the stash that I can use for this GB.

I will continue to drop in and admire the quality of work being produced by the group.  And I will be adding some Korean War era planes and/or armor to my stash in anticipation of the next time this topic comes up.

Thanks for hosting a first rate group build.

Cheers

Bob

Tons of good work you guys! Cool [8D]

Wish I had been able to sort out my schedule sufficiently to get in on this one...totally my fault. Hopefully there'll be a next time. Ashamed [*^_^*]

You know, there are enough people earnestly working on their projects for this GB, so I am going to extend another month. It's not like people are just joining...there is some really good WIP out there and I'd hate to either rush a good build, or take the wind out of the sails. Besides, this isn't for money or competition...it's for fun and getting together as a group.

Deadline extended!

And send of that heat our way (NE USA), we have few inches of snow on the ground! cheers

Hi guys,

I seriously doubt I'll finish in the next three days. I'm still waiting for my canopy masks to arrive, they were out of stock for ages and though they've been in the mail 9 days now I doubt they'll arrive in time to make a difference. It turns out Tamiya XF-1 has quite enough lustre to do for the AG panel, and I'd be able to complete that part in a trice if the canopy was masked...

It's also 114 degrees here today, and the heatwave has really got in the way of benchtime. I'll still post the pics as she comes to completion but I won't be looking for a badge -- I'll probably build AFV's Walker Bulldog for the next Korea GB and score a badge that time!

Cheers,

Mike/TB379

Looks good Aaron.  Nice job.

I got the suspension bits on the Sherman.  I really don't like this Dragon kit-attachment points are very suspect and the alignment of the road wheels is 'iffy' at best.  I'll probably attemt to build a run of links this coming weekend and see if it is worth continuing or just cut my losses and wait until the next Forgotten War GB and pick a more 'user friendly' kit.

Well here is my interior, these kits don't have a ton of detail inside but once they are closed up you can't see too much anyway.

Thanks Bob and Harv.

Thanks Charles, I figured the Alclad is so thin that I should have no paint ridge at the Blk demarcation line.  Should get some yellow on tonight.

Great stuff, Jerry.

I like how you've masked the black prior to the NMF...great tip. I'll have to remember that for next time.

Looking good, Mike. As Jerry and Bob have said, your research of the actual photos will be more accurate than kit insturctions most of the time. Besides, I would think that the flatter the anti-glare panel, the better it would not...well...glare!

Sign - Ditto [#ditto] Mike.  I'd go with your research pics-these were older planes in hostile weather conditions.  I'm sure that they didn't receive much TLC other than to keep them flying.

Looking forward to seeing more pics.

I'd go with your research Mike...if it looks flat...paint it flat. Can't wait to see more of your Mustang.

Hi guys,

Quick update (about time, with a week and a bit to go...) I've sprayed the yellow trim and masked it off, this Mustang will be in the paintshop asap.

Photobucket" border="0" />

Sorry about the focus, the camera picked up the background, not the object.

Research point -- the kit instructions say satin black for the antiglare panel and canopy base, but my reference photos show Mustangs in Korea as having dull, worn AG panels. They show some sheen on the propellor blades, but the AG panels are so faded and dull I'd have a hard time painting them satin. Anybody got any thoughts on this?

Cheers,

Mike/TB379

Bob - Hey, I bought my wife a power drill once, at her request! ;)  I do find the dremel really saves time and effort, just make sure you get the one with the slower speeds.  The old Tamiya M41 can be found in ebay or even online stored for 10-12$. The AFV offering runs twice as much on sale, 3 times as much on regular prices. I did get the AFV tracks (Tamiya tracks are missing the inner portion and the pads), as well as a PE set. I wanted to use the Bulldogs to learn/practice stuff. Probably better off getting the AFV version if you just want a nice accurate M41. Some linkies:

<EDIT> - Forgot the links, here they are:

Aaronw - I will put Cold Winter on my list.. I do like reading different takes on the same conflict, you gain some rich perspective.

sanderson_91 - Well, there is a NO EXCUSES GB going on for stuff sitting on the bench for a bit.. maybe we can finish these babies for that GB! ;)   Really like what you did with the nose conversion, really smooth finish.
