Bish, hold on; I made an error.  We have until may.  8 months is the timeframe.  That should give you enough time to build your entry.

Hi Red,

I caught your post in the Prototype GB.

I'll try my best to to get to that 236A-1. Thumbs Up [tup]

I had to backout od the Mudmovers build due to my work schedule. Things seem to be slowing up a bit so I may find the time.

Ok, thats fine. I am also in the twin engine fighter GB, but as that doesn't end till Sept i can do this first. I will probably be starting at the start of March, once my 251 is deffinatly finished. Will give me a month to scrape together some spare parts and decals as the kit is pretty sparse on both. So pencil me in but i woun't take the badge untill i know i can 100% get it finished in time. As i mentioned, i am going away at the end of this month for 3 months, so will give me something to look forward to when i get home.

Afghanistan, so i am really trying to get my 251 completed, or as near to it as i can before i go. And i don't want to commit 100% just on the off chance they decide to keep me there longer. Not likely, but always possible.

Okay then, Bish.  Once again, be careful! Smile [:)]

For the rest of you.  My build will also be Revell's Flitzer.  What a beatiful kit!  They should do this again in 1/48th......

Bish: Good luck and be careful as well.Smile [:)]

Started my Do-335B-4. It is a pretty cool kit and an interesting subject. I had never heard of a recon version of the Pfeil with extended wing tips until I saw this. Bought it on impulse when I was really looking for a F-14 kit along with a B-1 Lancer. Anyways back on subject, assembled motors and worked on the cockpit a little. Really detailed in and out and it includes some PE parts. Should be an interesting build.

I am also planning on maybe doing a Me-262 that would have flown in 1946. Two-seater with wings that are swept back more and some X-4 missiles and maybe even replacing the four 30mms with two gatling style guns like the Germans were developing. I don't know. Maybe it will happen.

Hi Red13Bar,

Okay, after a brief wait for the post, my Horten 229 has arrived! here she is:

Photobucket" border="0" />

The overall structure is simple but the engineering is complex. There's stacks of detail but I'm not sure how much will be visible. The landing gear is especially complex. The what-if decals feature stencil data and are well-printed. The canopy can be posed open too.

I'm not sure when I can make a start, I have heaps to do, but she should build well and not give me too many fights along the way.

Cheers,

Mike/TB379

Oh man. That is too cool.
I've had one of those on my list of "kits to get" for some time.  Ever since I saw this:

I can't wait to see you build that kit

Hi IL_2windhawk,

Yes, that's a fabulous model! I hope I can do the Revell 1:72 as much justice. There's a lot of prepainting involved on the landing gear conponents, and I'll need to transpose the Revell paint numbers into ranges I have. Also, only a few RLM colors are quoted so I'll have to wing it. I hate mixing recommendations, they have you guessing what the color is supposed to be rather than just quoting it, so as to con you into buying and mixing their paints instead of buying the correct color in whatever range has it. Angry [:(!]

I can do some identification work, premasking with Maskol on mating surfaces, then do a round of RLM 02 on the subassemblies for the landing gear, cockpit, gun bays and such.

Cheers,

Mike

Looking forward to seeing that Horten being built. I have an old PM kit of that unbuilt, but there isn't mutch detail in it and was thinking of replaceing it with the Revell version.

Hi Red12Bar and Bish --

X-4s, the German air-to-air missile that was deployed on the Fw 190 around March '45? Now there's an idea... Do you know an AM source?

I have the PM, day- and nightfighter versions. Yes, awful fit, fine but raised panel lines, no cockpit, poor decals. I had been going to absolutely shoot-the-works on the techniques to bring it up to scratch, substitute a cockpit from some other plane, full rescribe, AM decals... But there's no point, this one wins hands-down in 1:72.

Cheers,

Mike

Just found this which gives some info on the X-4 and also it seems it has been availible in 2 scales by several companies at least in the past. Will be something to look out for.

Well a couple weeks into the build and i am already hating the 1/48 Monogram Do335.  This kit has some of the worst fits i have ever seen so i'm stocking up on sandpaper and putty. but besides that problem I've finished one cockpit and am working on the other.  Pics soon to follow.

Oh, dear.  (Hint: to preserve sanity, try the Tamiya kit alongside it.  I have built two, and they are excellent!)  But good luck with yours, anyway.  Love to see how it turns out!

Progress on the Me 1101.  First off, in 1/72 scale, this thing is TINY.  I tried to get as clear a shot as possible, but was difficult.  Have a new Sony DSC-50 enroute for better pics.

Ok here's the cockpit pictures i promised but first; for you people who say there isn't much detail, most of it is hidden from view by the canopy and what you can see looks pretty good, and second I am trying out several new techniques for painting(don't want to buy an airbrush just yet, so all of it is paintbrush) will wait until I get a better kit before I try for a show piece.  Anyway here's the pics:

unfortunately i can't do anything about the cockpit display panel, otherwise it will mess with the canopy fit(stupid Monogram kitBanged Head [banghead]) other than the fitting, the kit's coming together pretty quickly hope to have more pics soon.

PS decided on the camo, going to make it a North Atlantic Radar Interceptor(a what-if scheme)

"Small" update:

This kit is a beast.  The sprue attachment points are thicker than parts of the kit itself.  I see lots of filling in my future.  Luckily this is a SMALL project:

The wings leave a decent gap where they meet the fuselage:

As does the cockpit floor:

Well, for $5.00 I guess you can't expect too much.  Still a fun little kit, even with the fit issues.
