Tamiya SDKFZ 25,1 completely abandoned..FINISHED!. pics.page5.

Hey, finally sometime to finish this study on "rust, wear and abandoment" using oils. 

Besides that orangish, red colors from the rusting, I also wanted to display the greenish color metal gets after sometime outside and also some white from doves poo... 

I put on the 5th layer of oils for the streaks and wear. I think I have mastered  the color of rust using oils, applying them sucessfully...not so sure...but hey...my first kit with oils looks good..at least I like it. Specially for my diorama, in order to make it look more abandoned I will fill the interior with junk like empty rusting barrels, damaged fuel cans and any other garbage that comes across....

That genuinely looks really good! THe colors are well-represented and I sincerely think that the weathering looks top-notch!

The only thing that really bugs me is that front tire. If that got blown apart like that, there would have been more damage to the fender area. Yet if it is supposed to represent burned rubber, the fender above it would be rusted from heat damage as well.

My philosophy in presenting a diorama is that if you have to "explain" a particular detail, you've somewhat failed in your presentation. While you may indeed have seen a photo of that particular kind of damage, it is awfully hard to model that convincingly to where someone is not going to say "What's up with that tire"? I hope it doesn't sound condescending, and I certainly DON'T mean it that way, but I always try to think that my "audience" is not too smart--do you know what I mean? Make things easy to understand and "get" what your intention is to show.

I hate to say it, but I would rather see the rubber part of the wheel taken off completely, and just the rim remaining. You could probably remove it very easily from the model, trim it down, repaint it, and place it back on the model if you tried? But that's just my opinion.

Although I think it would have picked up some dust, especially after sitting neglected for a while.

Annnnnd,

         (but not trying to be nit-picky) impacting rounds from automatic weapons fire tends to be more scattered than in a neat row.

Still though..... in reality, this project is just my twisted kind of interest.

Yes, my attempt was to make it look as if the tire burned half through it, I might just take out the whole thing, just completely blown away.

I hope that filling the back part of SDKFZ 251 will even re-inforce the idea of an abandoned vehicle used as a trash can.

Yes, I also think some dust will re-inforce the idea of abandonment, although Im not good at adding/using dusting effects, that will come later when I build my Merkava.

So for now, I will leave it as is, since it was a good rusting experiment.

Enjoying this build log.  The rust effects look top notch.  The only comment I have is on the hood; in addition to the great rust effects wouldn't the fire leave alot of black soot around the opening in the hood?

Yes, in fact I did added the sooth pigments but then went back and added more rust covering the sooth. I will use this vehicle for a diorama so it will be covered in a lot of debris, and other stuff thrown over it, plus add a little bit of dust.

Also will remove both wheels and just leave it on the suspension arms holded by wood blocks.
