I love your petite panzer and want to marry it...

I have seen crosses on the front of some captured Jagdpanthers but always assumed that they were put on by Americans for "photo-op" purposes, just so viewers of the pics would know that it was a German tank...didn't realize the Germans did this...

The fact that some thought this was a 35th scale model speaks for itself...

Very cool Karl,

It could very easily be mistaken for a larger scale kit, (as has already been the case above)... Big Smile [:D]

Nice work on the base too, the extra rubble really lifts it

Wow Karl, that is an amazing job, and to think it is in small scale also. We are really not worthyBow [bow].

Just had another check on the Revell website, it looks like they are re-releasing the Jagdpanther kit..........Woohoo!!!!

Too bad that the restrictions of this kit limit the ability to flex the tracks and suspension to more closely conform to the irregularities of that crumbled wall.

http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a382/katydownunder/Smileys/violin.gif?t=1239939030 Well, you can only expect so much, right.

Anyway, this has turned out really nice doog. You definitely know your way around that "EXPERTEN" camo paint job also.

It's a minimal point, Karl, you know I love your work, but it seems like the wall was pushed over by this vehicle, or at least partially?  At first I looked at the last shots and didn't see any bricks, then I saw in the earlier ones there is a large pile, but they appear covered up at this point.  Your nice pile of the bricks that made up that wall is sort of hidden by all the rubble type stuff, seems to me there would be more mostly or partly intact bricks on top of the rubble?

Again, minimal point, but something to think about.

The vehicle, yeah, I'll just take notes about the vehicle stylings of Doog.

EDIT:  I just perused the rest of the thread, this is 1/72?  Never mind my comments, it looks amazing.  I hadn't realised I was condemning you to work with braille scale individual bricks.

Bill

Hey, thanks, Bill! No problem; I sometimes get the scales confused on another site!

Yeah, the molded bricks--I knew that they would be a "casualty" when I planned the base. I briefly thought of just leaving it painted, but it would have looked unbalanced in my opinion; you know--lotsa details on the JP but a bare, unadorned base?

I thought it needed a little more realism around the wall...thanks for your kind compliment! Smile [:)]

Hi guys,

I managed to get some work done on the dio base, and the decals and first steps of a "Buff"wash are applied. Here's the progress so far.

The base with just caft store acrylic paints and a tan wash to make the "mortar" betwixt the bricks.

And the JP with the added stowage box on the rear hull. I haven't even painted details--tracks, tools, periscopes yet. The multitude of crosses was emblematic of the 654th Pzjg Abt. after reorganizing with the hull tool mods.

I put some Hudson and Allen rubble down to make the base more realistic. There's slso real dirt there...

Gonna lay in some pin washes next, and paint the tools. and the apply some pigments. Anybody see anything that needs rectifyin'? Big Smile [:D]

Karl, that looks great, can't wait to see it finished. The tracks look great BTW. The paint job... well that speaks for itself.... when weathered, well I can't imagine, so I'll have to wait and see.

Hey, thanks guys, for the generous praise about the airbrushing work--that's m ol' trusty Badger 150 with the "fine" tiip. I have to admit that I was impressed at how well it was behaving this morning! Big Smile [:D]I think thatusing Tamiya thinner with theTamiya paint definitely helps too?

No scheme, or reference plate Manny--I just painted it up freehand, after noticing that a lot of late JP's seemed to have pretty colorful schemes, with lots of camo paint on them.

I'm going to try to get some decals on her tonight, and then I'll start some weathering...

Again, thanks for the nice comments! Blush [:I]

I am stunned!  I thought that I had missed this one, but its back with a vengeance!  Great work, you should try to get a pic of this into the readers gallery for the mag.

Having missed this entirely the 1st go round, I am sure glad I found it not.  Great work in any scale more so in this one.

Very nice work Karl especially considering the size of this one! I missed your updates on all the details somehow, so I'll say it now...you're doing work in 1/72 that most would only atttempt in 1/35 for sure! Combine that with the awesome paint job and it's a real stunner. Looking forward to the base completion. Thumbs Up [tup]

Dude, that is one of the nicest and most pleasing German three-tone camo pattern I have ever seen on an AFV, in any scale...did you use a ref? Awesome scheme; this is a classic example of German three-tone, soft-edge scheme...stunning...

I hope you don't ruin it with excessive weathering...Wink [;)]...

Such a fine job on such a small build!

The camouflage is excellent and looks better than camo on a lot of 1/35 builds.http://www.innovationbyinstinct.com/services/hosting/clients/accountyp/status/DisasterMaster/%23t1-4.jpg

Hi Guys!

Well, just a small painting and tracks update! The Revell indy-link tracks were a bit of a challenge to get right--I had to use one more link per each side to fit. I stole a link from a Revell Panther G that has been superceded by the new DML zimmed kits. Strangely, the DML tracks wouldn't even come close to fitting?!

The Revell kit hull sides to whcih the wheels are attached seem a tad long, but alll in all I like the look of how this kit has gone together.

Painted with Tamiya acrylics--greatly lightened DY, "Field Grey" for the green, and of course, Red-Brown.

A shot to give the relative size;

And the dio base getting painted--I WILL be adding "real" dirt and whatnot to it...

That's it for now--will be weathering tonight if I can swing the time....comments or critiques welcomed! Big Smile [:D]

*EDIT*-- If you're looking at the photos and seeing this weird striation of the paint on the sides--like parallel lines running through the paint or something?--it's some weird thing that my camera did to the photos; I've never seen this before, and can't explain it?!

It's definitely NOT on the actual model! (just checked!) Wink [;)]

Thanks, Mike and Clay!

You know, it'd beneat to cast this base, but I can't associate it with any other kit than this JP. I think I've built this kit 3X now, and this of course will the penultimate version.

Clay, I'm not sure about those kits--that may have been a bit before my time. I remember Bandai 1/48 tanks, but that's about all I recall in that scale. They did have interiors though, and were some cool kits.

Doog, that is simply superb. When I see you build, I realise I am a mere kit assembler!

I would love to cast these bases. Have the resin casting stuff but no time to undertake the process currently.

Thanks, Steve! Just a quick answer before I have to run over to Jenns--someone on here posted something about the metal hulls literally disintegrating or something after a while--not sure if it's an intrinsic flaw in the casting, or a reaction to paints?

Perhaps that person will post the info again"

There's also the issue of not being able to use regular plastic glue on them...minor thing, I guess, but that whole "disintegration thing" is a bit scary!

(I have that Sturmtiger too, but I picked up the Trumpeter one to build instead; I'll use the metal hull one for spare parts and details)

I shioulda molded the base, but I've never gotten into casting....Sigh [sigh]

Doog way cool project you got going here. The extra detail that your putting into this is mind blowing for such a wee thing.

Have you thought about making a mold of that base?

What's the deal with the Dragon metal hulls? I have the Sturmtiger in the stash and it has the metal hull.

Thanks, Terry, Manny, and Huxy!

Lasse, that book has not only a list, but a diagram of field mods. It's a wealth of information on the Jagdpanther and Ferdinand/Elefant. Tons of rare photos, diagrams, and color paintings/renderigs. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Not cheap though--over $100.00, and maybe OOP by now? Check out JJ Fedorowicz publishing for info on it.

Hey, that book.. it got an actual list of fieldmodifications? you recommend the book? How much you recommend it? Smile [:)]

Karl your approaching this like other mere mortals would approach a 1/35th. Superb. the etch work looks painful, the carpet monster would love you. Those wheels are simply beautiful, the steel wear on the outer rims really shows up the work done so far, when the tracks go on it will be just great.

Good luck with the rest of the build,

Terry
