Zokissima – Thanks for stopping in and for the comments

Detailfreak – Thanks…..rest of the battery….lost in the snow!!!

Schnobs – Thank you for the kind comments. Stencils for the stars and bumper numbers always look better if they are really stenciled….IMHO.

The stencils can be a PIA with the letters and numbers but patience will give a great effect.

I love the Alclad metallic paints. They have a great selection of colors, are formulated to AB so the finish is fantastic. Their only drawback Is the smell….real strong… you have to have a paint booth. That aside they are worth it!!

Like some of the guys here, part of the hobby for me is the WIP blog. Teaching and learning go hand and hand here. It’s what make the forum fun and all of you…my friends.

Thanks

Marc – Hummmm….sounds like a good tag line….Thanks for the comments….next stop for the this one will be Wayne.

Redleg, I have followed this one, it's mean and well done, very nice product you put out, and I really like the snow effects you have used, looks cold and not in the least overdone.

As Ed said, thanks for the well-done WIP, this one is bookmarked.

Modelbuilder – Thanks, I’m sure yours will turn out fine.

Bill – Thanks, I wanted the “stark cold” effect. I’m glad to see that is coming through. Again thanks.

Wayne – Brrrrr….hopefully reminds you of the old days….I know you are not ever cold now!! Thanks bro…hanging in there is all I could do…quitting is not an option!

Mr. Leg - that is pretty freakin' spectacular. Can't wait to see this guy in person (will it be in March at Valleycon? Or do I have to wait until September?)!

Interested in how you got your snow buildup...for the dialup-challenged among us, you don't happen to know what page you would have covered that on, do you?

Great stuff. YesYes

Marc - See page 10 for heavy snow....generay a mix of sheetrock taping compound and white glue. For tracks and footprints, taping compound mixed with water to the cosistancy of paint and painted on.

I there are any further questions feel free to emal or PM

Thanks for looking and the comments. I won't be at Valleycon...I will be attending Misquitocon here in NJ with Wing Nut.

Very nice job.  I think that you've done a particularly nice job of adding just the right amount of snow accumulations - it's all logical and looks great.

Speaking of snow...along with the MIG Ashes White, you might mix in some Micro Balloons - they are super light and give everything a nice sparkle.   Great for adding as a top layer or blown into corners.

Take care,

Rick

Rick - Coming from you it is truly appreciated and humbling. Thank you

Before I go back to the model I was going to experment along those lines. My thought was mixing a bit of MIG Ashes White and some Micro Ballons with the MIG pigment fixer and trying to "wash" it onto the areas. The thought is the snow is "packed" but to get a little dusting here and there with a sparkle look. I thought the use of the MIG pigment fixer would act as a slight adhesive for the micro ballons and let them sparkle while not letting them look "fluffy"

Thanks for the ideas....I will try some experments this weekend

redleg12- Can't believe I missed this build untill now, but let me just say your builds a beaut'!!Bow Down Especially love the little touches like the snowy footprints and the fuel drippage near the caps. Hmmm, I've never heard of Floquil Oil Spill, is that just a standard enamel paint?....over on my end I usually use MM Graphite Metalizer for fuel drippage.

MG - First thanks for the comments,

As far as the oil spill paint.....I made a slight mistake....It is Floquil Bright Oil #808670 from their Marine Colors group.

Now , it may be discontinued but I piked up a jar on ebay for about $1.00 about a year or so ago. It is basically like a wash and leaves an oilly stain. It was well worth the $1.00 IMO....it make my life eaiser anytime I need a stain!!.

Again thanks for stopping by and for the comments.

Installing them required a bit more "handling" but the seemed to fall apart like an ancient mummy.

...I know that in some cases with styrene it can become brittle if exposed to thinner such as in washes.

http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b188/DTrent/Smileys/3confused.gifThat's why I never use mineral spirits as a wash carrier. When working with oil based paints I only use turpenoid thinner (don't make the mistake others have and use turpenoid brush cleaner, you'll get some SAD results).

Mineral spirits will break down the structural integrity of styrene plastic. http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e105/CommentCrazyGirl/Smileys/groan.gif It's happened to me several times until I figured out why.

Now, for the model. The spackling compound IMO is the perfect medium for snow since in 1/35 scale it will look smooth without any grainy texture.

You ALWAYS turn out a detailed, first rate result Mike.

Steve - Thanks for your always colorful comments.

I normally use oil paint and turpenonid. On this model I tried the MIG washes....they are nice but are a mineral spirts base....Bang Head....I shoild have thought of that before I used them on the tracks.

With that said.....as I said to Bill, I think it was a combination of the wash, the fragile nature of the design and some cracks in the pins that may have been caused by assembly.

In any case......for the T80/84 track with center guide pin, the Dragon tracks are FAR superior IMO. MUCH lees cleanup, easy to assemble and rugged enough for application to the model. Yet still look great.

Live....and Learn

Thanks Again

Mike: Funny, I started on this kit late last year and used some of your photos as a reference but didn't feel like kicking a three year old post back to the top by opening it again. Since Tony already has let me add that's some impressive work and I hope mine turns out 1/3rd as good as yours did.

Tony: Lol, at the rate I model you'll probably be done with your kit before I am!
