Now that would be a hard one to do, epecially with his butt in the drivers hatch. Thanks for the great shot Yes

Hey Redleg,

She is looking sweet! VERY sweet!

A few people have moaned about how difficult the PE around the muffler is - it doesn't look like you struggled!

Keep it coming!

Looking great!!  I'm not usually  a fan of PE,,,guess I'm just too old..or probably just  a hard headed jarhead,,..maybe cheap even Hmm

But this build has really inspired me to give it a try...

You are doing great work,,,didn't know you arty guys could get that detailed,,I always thought within 100yds,,fire for effect!!  :-)

Looking forward to the paint!

Shot out!

Tonka - Thanks, I usually don't like a ton of PE either but a little goes a long way with this little guy.

Artillery and details are the same!! Then again when you have a kill radius of 100 yds.....it can be close enough!!

Thanks again

Well spring is here and that means gardening…outdoor chores….spring cleanup…..BUT, I did find some time this weekend to keep this build moving forward.

After I finished up the front lights it was PRIME TIME!!. Everything headed off to the paint booth for a Tamiya Flat Black prime coat.

OK…I played with mixing until I had a mix I liked for Parkerized. My mix was 70% Tamiya NATO Black XF-69, 25% Tamiya Metallic Grey XF-56 and 5% Tamiya JA Green XF-13. The recoilless, 30 cal MG, MG mount and a 30 cal Tripod (the tripod is not included in the kit but was carried on most Ontos, I uses a tripod from the Academy MG set) all received a coating.

The ball on the breech handle is painted Flat Black and the retaining clip (about in the middle) of the 50 cal barrels is painted with Alclad Dark Aluminum

Not shown are the 50 cal receivers which I painted with Alclad Dark Aluminum and the clip with Alclad Steel.

Now it was on to the road wheels which were painted with my rubber mix of 50/50 Flat Black and NATO Black. Then using a circle template the inside of the wheels were painted Testors Acryl USMC Green #4724

With the air brush loaded up with USMC Green I just kept going, here is the turret after painting.

Lastly the body painted.

Rear view of the body

That’s it for now. Next up is to assemble the turret and the 6 recoilless rifles the move on to the detail parts to be added to the body.

As always your comments either good or bad are appreciated.

Ooooh yeah!

She is looking sweet! Yes Yes Yes

The parkerised colour looks SPOT-ON! Well done! I looked at ALL of my colours yesterday and could find nothing that was do - the same went for my LHS so I think I'll give your mixture a go!

I finished up my WIP Halftrack with base yesterday so am looking at the 3 kits in my stash for my next WIP. I had decided on my Dragon Panther G with Zim with lots of aftermarket but after looking at this build I'm tempted to build the Ontos now!

I've got the week to mull it over, WIP on one of them will begin on Friday (days holiday)! Sweeeet!

Have a good week guys,

ATVB

Mike,

Looks like today was a great day for painting for both of us! I like the way you've documented your "parkerized" mix, I learned a long time ago to write down recipes that work and label just like you do. Wink

Brian - Thanks

Bill - Thanks, early on I standardized on a particular mixing jar and picked up a labeler....just for that purpose.  A few years later and a bunch of jars on the shelf....I don't end up with any mysteries!! Wink

Looking at your painted body, looks like the kit has a good fit. The rear door is spot on.  You mentioned that the rifles (metal) has no latch so align the other components of the gun. Did you eyeball the alignment? Looking very goood!t

Mike, You missed the tobacco and soiled trousers smell added in with the rest,, now that is a 'recipe' to label and bottle!!  Ick!

Seriously,, really good job and the colors look great on my screen... I think i will use your recipe ..for the parkerizing,,not the odors...

Look forward to more pics!

Gino - Thanks...yep...I was smelling something.Surprise

Kevin - LOL....I can hang it up next to the minfield marker and the condemmed building signWink

Constructor - Thanks. Yes the line up is by eye. Just takes some patience!

Tonka - Yep...those smells and a few others like spices added to a soup.....really bad soup

Glad you like the color. If you do make up the same, mix the black and metallic grey and add the green in small amounts. Mix and check a swatch of color so you don't go tooooo far with the green!!

Thanks guys

Hey Red,

What colour green did you opt for in the end? I'm looking at XF-74.

Marc - You know me....I love the strange and obtuse!!.. thanks for coming by and no apology needed!!

Ben - The green is Testors Acryl USMC Green #4724....for the best match to the color used on the Ontos, look here

http://www.paint4models.com/paintchart/paintconversionchart20100101.html#

The correct color is FS34052 Marine Green. You can find all the manufacturers that have a match
