Marc:  Ahhhh........well done.  Subtle, but effective chipping.YesYes  This is a real nice build my friend, I'm looking forward to seeing her first-hand at AMPS East.  Like you, my best laid plans are to attend this year.

You should jump-in on the Steel Cats GB!  It starts in September and runs 6 months +... It  gives you another reason to go to AMPs and score a kit/ AM goodies.Stick out tongue

You voted for the winning side... no more weatheringWink

I started to work on the firgures for the base.  The kits comes with a nice Iraqi tanker inthe pose as seen on the box top.  I modified him to a different positionWhistling.  If it looks familiar but you can't quite put your finger on it... the other figures will be US Infantry, well armed US Infantry.

Outstanding work on this one, Marc---the detailing you put into it should make your name be uttered in whispered tones on this forum. Just superior!!!

Love the finish; can't find any objective fault with This should do well for you in the contest realm!

Thanks Andy.  I forgot about the GB.  That may be a possibility.

I am planning on figures.  meant to say that above.  the kit comes with a very nice Iraqi guy holding binoculars.  Won't be too hard to hand in the air with a couple US Infantry guys covering him.

Are you going to build something next or wait til Steel Cats GB to kick off if you have signed up?

Thanks so much for all the encouragement and kind words.  It did feel good to get back to the bench.  the weird thing though, as I said earlier, by now I would have made up my mind, and changed it 5 times, of what to do next.  Maybe I need to do one of the votes and let you guys decide.  But now I have to decide what to put up for the voteTongue Tied

Shell, yes the rust is done with a sponge and oil paint..  The wheel color was a 2 part though process.  Extra dirty and oily from maintenance was omne.  The other was the idea of the color set being how light was hitting the vehicle.  Thinking these are just shaded more.  I even put the darker wheels under the side armor.

Mike  AMPS is definitely in my plan.  But you know what they say about the best laid plans.Wink

Marc , very convincing weathering . The color difference of the running gear from the rest of the tank is an interestiung point . Does that represent the dirt from the terrain the tank traveled through or is it showing a suttle color variation in the painting of the equipment ? I like the chipping you did also . Is it the 'sponge" technique . Thats something i havent tried yet. The only addition i can think of that could add to this is a figure or two. I dont know if you do figures though . But it looks great just the way it sits now .

Damn that's nice Marc!  The chipping you did adds that extra touch and really makes it look like a battle hardened desert warrior!  And it contrasts very nicely with the sand colored paint job!  I'd say your first build after your hiatus is a resounding success!!  YesYes

Hi, Marc, I must say that I'm delighted that you have called this one done, overall a great build log and a great presentation of all your building and painting skills in one place, just brilliant.

Since I was getting into uncharted waters with a modern desert tank and out of practice I had to go to the point when my head said, "Don't over do it."  Sometimes by the time you say that to yourself it's too late.  So with that said... unless there is a tweak or 2 someone can trough out there... I'm done.

...Need opinions as to whether to add some small chipping along some edges with a bit of rusty(ish) streaking coming down...

YES!!!   In addition to  the chipping, consider the boot-rub and hand-grab areas too.  I'd be VERY selective on the rust streaks...one choice spot may set the tone and be enough.

The detailing is spectacular and the paint job came out great!!!   If you do decide to add some rust (dark brownish) in a few choice spots this baby will really pop!  You may also want to dust her up a bit.  A little bit overall and then powder build-up in the nooks and crannies and the back deck, etc.  The dark rust will look even better with the dust contrast.  This is a real gem Marc, nice comeback!!!YesYes

Thanks so much to everyone for the nice comments

Ernest... not sure if there are other but I would imagine so.  When this product was announced on Armorama  there were a few comments about this being... to keep it nice... not an original idea and looked like a copy of something available from AK Interactive.  have not looked into it though

Hercmech... thanks, good to be back.
