OK, now that I look at the whole pic it's clear.  It's still kind of cool that they have flexibility, would make for an interesting dio situation.

Carl,

The important thing is that you know it's there! Sometimes the most enjoyment from detailing comes from things that get hidden away...but are your "little secret" all the same. Smile

RBaer , i figured if i showed a complete pic of the front end you'd figure it out but i added the text for anyone else who might be wondering . This kit could be modified to show a vehicle setting on un-even terrain . It'd take some patience but i think it could be done with some interesting results ........Hmm hmmmmm....nope not this one .Whistling

Bill , thats so true isnt it . Its the fun of doing the research also isnt it . I went out and crawled under my 4x4 pickup so i could get a hands on look . No cats under there though ....Stick out tongue..... LOL

Hi, Carl

I see that you have been plugging away, your detailing work so far is first rate, it's only a matter of working out what does what, fuel lines , brake lines, etc, etc. you can have more fun with a couple of feet of copper wire than an expensive etch set.

Keep up the good work and good luck.

Terry.

Terry , true about the copper wire . At least its round like the real thing . I've seen some of the p.e. sets represent hydraulic lines with flat etch . Ok in 1/48th but it would stand out in 1/35th .

Marc , hope you have patience , this may take a while to build .

Remember to pull your pants up after all of that plumbing work Wink  I have to agree with WBill, putting all of that extra work in, even if you don't see it, is half the fun.  Will look really good with the hood open Yes

Coming along nicely Beer

Its been a while but i have a few update pics . I did get some assembly and primer paint done . Soon i will have to get the frame and fenders  painted in their final colors so that i can put the engine into the frame .

There were some major major mold marks on the inside of the cab that were difficult to fill and sand smooth due to the curved surface inside of a tight area . I used a stick with a piece of wet sand paper tapped to it so that i could reach down into the inside of the cab and sand it .

There was also some depressions to fill on the bottom of the cab as well .

The doors had ejection pin marks . Some i filled and the more difficult to reach ones i used strip styrene to cover .

The kit provided door mounted rear view mirrors arms were delicate and broke durring removal from the sprue so i fabricated new ones from copper wire .

Zill next time take care .

Hey Carl! Lookin' good! I remember going through the same steps some 6-7 years ago, that was fun!

What painting is it going to be, again? If it's supposed to be Soviet, I believe the color should be a little more green - some people swear the Humbrol 155 is perfect for the job. But of course the color of the photos (plus my screen) could mislead me too... Anyhow, good luck with your project and have a nice day

Pawel , i havent decided on a color scheme yet , but i need to do it real soon . Did you do yours in Russian markings ? I'm looking forward to painting this one and getting it well weathered . I'm going to try out the chipping with the sponge method . I might do that over a faded green paint job . Not sure . Any of these Zil 1157's runing around your neck of the woods ?

Thanks .

Zil later ..............Yes

Carl, I did mine with Soviet defilade markings. I already posted it once in another thread, but here it is:

Sometimes you can see a ZiL-157 tractor used for logging around here, and they are usually beat up, repainted, chipped - you name it. The military trucks were usually well maintained - fortunately for all of us they didn't get too much to do except for staying ready.

Like here's one freshly sold by the polish military, in late style camo:

And here's one in the typical soviet color:

When I see one around, I'll try to take some photos for you. Hope it helps, good luck with that one and have a nice day

WOW!  So many pin marks... they scare me.  Great process there!  I would have replaced the mirror rods with strong wiring too.  Those fragile pieces never liked my fat fingers...

Whoa Carl, that's some mighty fine and patient work with those treacherous pin marks!  Looks like you did a bang up job on them!  Sometimes its just best to take care of those things, even if we don't think we'll see them later...you never know!  Yes
