TANK HUNTER GB Feeler
Posted by SchattenSpartan on Wednesday, October 16, 2013 10:28 AM

Hi guys!

I thought about hosting a GB for tank destroyers and self propelled AT guns.

I'd set the starting date for Jan. 1st and I was thinking about a 1-year GB.

Just let me know in this thread if you are interested.

Cheers, Clemens

Ok, I'll just post the first list of vehicles, but I really need your help with this!

I like the sound of this one, the timing sounds good to me. Most of the current builds will have either finished or coming close to ending.

I have a Marder that's been at the top of the build list for a while and keeps getting nudged down.

As a personal suggestion, I would make the start date jan 1st and keep it as a 2014 GB.

Yeah, Jan 1st is a better date to start this one.

I know what you mean about the Marder. I have started work on Eduard's Hetzer (a great little kit with full interior!) but I chose to put it on ice because my modelling skills were not good enough for that kit at the time. I'll try to fix some of the mistakes I made back then (there is a pretty bad gap where the engine firewall meets one of the hull sides for example...)

Awwwwwww, gee whiz Clemons! I'd promised myself I wouldn't enter any more GBs till I finished some of the ones I'm already in and then you and Tigerman have to tempt me!!!

Lemme see - I got lotsa TDs...

Half-built AFV Club M18 Hellcat

AFV Club M10

Darn you Clemens!  Wink

I'm sure I could find something.  If it's a go, count me in!  Not sure what yet.  Is it armor only?  Just wondering.

Cliff: I have a nice collection of TDs to choose from as well:

  • Eduard Hetzer
  • Dragon Ferdinand (Kursk)
  • Dragon Jagdpanther
  • Dragon Marder 3
  • Dragon T28 (yes, that driving bunker with 4 tracks and the huge gun)
  • AFV Club M-10 (I ordered one at my LHS, but still on its way to them)

And I have a 251 with a Pak 40 in my stash as well...

Eagle: It's only TDs and self propelled AT guns (Nashorn, 251 with Pak 40, Halftrack with AT gun, RSO with Pak 40,...), so yes: armor only.

For all of you who are not sure if they find a subject you like: All the TDs and everything that drives and has an AT gun is allowed, so there should be a lot of vehicles to choose from.

Clem, I haven't forgotten about those instructions. I managed to get them out the other day, I just need to scan them and send them off. But there is a lot to scan.

Would you allow partial builds? I have Dragon's Panzerjager 1 about 25% done that's been sitting doing nothing for over 12months. Would give me the motivation to finish it.

Sure, everything with the construction work not more than 50% completed.

No problem Clemens.  I've got to have something in the stash that would qualify (if not...it's a good excuse to get something!).  So you can still count me in!

Eagle90

P.S. I was going to joke with you and ask if a Hs 129B with gear down would qualify, but didn't know if anyone would get the humor!  Embarrassed

I wouldn't allow an Hs 129 even if it did count as a self propelled AT gun! (I want you to cut off both wings in that case though) Why? Because it's Censored ugly! That's why!!! And don't you dare to talk back!!! Yeah, I said it! It's ugly! What are you going to do now?!!! Angry

Just kidding. Any kind of plane is a no-go here. I think the 129 is ugly, but it looks cool at the same time! (maybe it was the inspiration for the A-10?) Wink

Ok, we got 5 guys interested in this one after less than one day, so I think this is a definite "yes" to the question "to be or not to be" regarding this GB!

I'll post this in the GB calendar, but I'd need a good name for it. Any suggestions?

How about "Rolling Thunder", "Shoot To Thrill" or "Fire Your Guns"? Just some suggestions from my side...

Oh gee, forgot I do have an Ferninand, Jadgpanther, and a Su-100 too, since I'm on a big olive drab kick here lately. Looks like I've got everything but the time to build all this stuff.

You might consider: Seek...Strike...Destroy... Although that kinda refers to only US TDs.

Would any of the E--series of paper JagdPanzers qualify?  If so, I'm in.

SIR, YES SIR!!!!!

You rock Clemens.

You are right about it being an inspiration for the A-10.  Lots of similarities!

Thanks for the laugh!

Yo SchattenSpartan I'm interested!  I've got a Italeri Jagdpanzer IV that I started for Tigerman's "Hunters" GB back in 08.  Its about 20% started and I want to finish it.  I've also got Dragon's Jagdpanzer IV A, SU-100, and Jagdpanther if the started kit won't work.

Cliff: The title sounds good, but as you said already: It's only referring to the American TDs...

Greg: Yep, paper tanks are allowed as well!

Jibber: Nice to have you in here!

Ernest: No worries about those 20% everything up to 50% done is allowed! My Hetzer is at 30% now, but I have to fix a lot of mistakes I made back then, so it will take some extra time to get everything to look alright...

So "Hunters II" it is? I can still change the title if you guys want, but I'll post it like that in the calendar. The only thing that needs to be done is to create a badge. I'll try to make one, but I'm not very good at that stuff. Anyone willing to help me out?

I'll see what I can come up with. I have done a few but they are all pretty basic at the moment, unless someone else is able to produce something better.

I thought about posting a list of all the vehicles allowed in this GB. I'd need your help with that one though...

We have to decide on some special cases as well:

The Sherman firefly was designed to destroy enemy tanks and used an AT gun for this job. Do you think we should put it on the list as well?

It's a similar thing with the StuGs. The early StuG-IIIs were designed as a self propelled infantry support gun, but later versions were upgraded with an AT gun and used to destroy tanks. Should all the StuGs be allowed here, or just the late versions (F and G) or should we leave all of them off the list?

There are several vehicles like that, so I need your help with that decision as well...

As far as the StuG goes I would include the long barrelled versions but not the short ones. I believe that whats they did in the first Hunter's GB and I think its a good idea.

As for the Firefly, most tanks are designed to destroy tanks, and so their gun is an AT gun, whether it be designed just for that vehicle or devolved from an towed AT gun. So personally, I would say no to the Firefly.
