Yes Roy: I have done about a dozen MK sets. They do test your sanity but the end result from my point of view is there moveable and look stella.

I always check with you guys who are more learned in armor and with this AM stuff to make sure things are compatable with kits I build.

Kudos to you for using those MK tracks. I only use the kit supplied Magic-Tracks or Fruil tracks (they are easy to build compared to the MK ones and still test my sanity like nothing else...)

Well...after making a note not to drill holes in the left fender for the Bosch light and reading Bills WIP over the weekend which he clearly states not to do also....guess what? YES I drilled!Angry

I have plugged the holes. BTW Bill I do remember this WIP from 2010 as I was reading. Great stuff!

Sparten- I really like the MK's, however I do take my time with them so as that I do not look for a ledge.

Will post some update photos tonight.

Well I sat down the bench to complete step 6 and right of the bat I hit a snag.

Part H40 (39)

First what are they?

Second and this is the snag: When I test fitted it, it's to long.

So before I "hack" away to shorten it I will see what response I get from the experts.

The long part is, I believe, part of the muffler system. Look a the next step---it hangs out from beneath the fenders and will attach to the muffler ends, eventually. Make sure Dragon didn't typically draw it in backwards!

The F30 thing is part of the track maintenance system. It knocks errant track pins back in as the track rolls by it. The other part is just a muffler guard, I believe?

DA! And yes, yes and yes.
Thanks Karl!
After your response and going back and looking at the parts it all made sense.
I never would have guessed that F30 is part of the track maintenance system and knocks errant track pins back in as the track rolls by and the other part is just a muffler guard.

Ask me about planes, autos and ships and I can hold my own.
Eventually armor will fall into place.
Back to the bench to finish step 6 and some AFVammo boxes.

Yes sir IB Friuls.

I did an OOB build comparison between the DML and AFV Club Nashorns awhile back on one of the sites and they've been on the shelf every since I finished the construction.

They both have their high and low points but for me the DML has the edge because of the production options.

I'll be watching because SPGs are Forever you know.Yes

I finished Step 6 and my AFV ammo boxes last night. Sorry no pics because my phone died. Will take some today and post.

Just an FYI for anyone that builds the "Initial Modified" version. Parts E38 and 39 are not flush with the fenders.( see above photo of instruction sheet). I believe Tony may have encountered the same problem after looking at his pics. Anyways after some some sanding and test fitting they are on.

Were all Nahorns done in DK? I would like to do a German Grey / camo if this was ever done? Any pictures would be great and field of OPS?

Also I am looking for some figure recommendations for this Nashorn.

Thanks

Never saw one in grey as far as I can remember? I"m pretty sure they were all yellow. Sometimes the winter camo ones can look grey in photos, but I don't believe they ever were.

I don't think there were any gray Nashorns. The first ones were built in February 1943 which was right after the change of color from gray to yellow AFAIK...

Regarding the figures: How about this set?

I couldn't find any in grey. As already mentioned they had changed there base color to dark yellow. But on other armor after that the grey eas added as parts of the camouflage. Wich could make for a

interesting color scheme.

Thanks guys for the color question.

Schatten - Thanks for the Tristar figure recommendation. Ordered those and also ordered some German grenades in boxes from PlusModels.

Now I have to come up with a Diorama idea.

I can't really help you with the idea for your diorama, but I think it looks great with winter camo:

How about a dug-in Nashorn?

Here is an update on my Nashorn build.

Finally completed Steps 7 - 11. If you build this kit and are not an expert please use the following blogs. I would be on medication without Bill and Karls blogs.

This kit with those figures will look amazing, a really weathered and dirty, grimmy winter cammo should look very nice as already mentioned.

To put in a diorama, would be just perfect

Not with those figures those look like they would fit in with a late spring early summer diorama. If he wanted a winter camo Nashorn I believe there is a SPG crew set in winter parkas. It would be cold in the fighting compartment since it is a open top vehicle.
