Been working on this off and on between family, work an 3 other builds.

Before I go any further I thought I would post some PICs for input. Also if you could provide some unit/division markings suggestions. This is a fictitious Nashorn. One that never made it to the Amour Books for reference.

Thanks for looking.

Looking good.

Do you have a particular region in mind. These were not assigned to Pz Divs, as far as I know, but to specialist Tank Destroyer units.

Hi Bish

Thanks for the reply.

I was thinking maybe Italy. Again when it comes to armor, markings or fields of operations I defer to the experts.

So anything that might be a possibility is OK with me.

Ok, well, to be honest, a lot of these vehicles didn't carry unit insignia. Unlike the panzer Div's, many don't seem to have actually had unit insignia.

But, there was one unit in Italy that did have insignia, the schwere Panzerjäger-Abteilung 525.

This is one of there vehicles, this image is from the old Dragon kit

This is the decal sheet, I think the yellow shield badge is their insignia.

Of course, you don't have to put that, it may not have been on every vehicle, but it just gives you something to base yours on. This unit fought at Anzio.

Sorry, those links won't show, check the page here, you can see the decal sheet and the first of the two schemes.

I am considering building a Nashhorn, but can't decide between the AFV, Dragon or new Tamiya kits. I would want to use RB barrels replacement and Friul tracks.

anyone help with the decision??

snap, I have the AFV and Cyber Hobby Nashorns. For the latter, I have decided I don't need any AM at all, nice tracks and barrel. For the AFV, again, its a nice one piece barrel, so I am leaving that and just get Fruil tracks, and lots of Eduard PE. I can't speak for the Tamiya, but the two I have look very nice. You could get the barrels if you wanted, but IMHO, you would just be throwing your cash away, and that's from someone addicted to AM.

In regards to the CH kit, its the white box command version, but it is based on the kit being built here, with just extra parts, I assume for the Command equipment. So this kit is basically the same as the CH one, metal barrel, Magic tracks and really nice moulding's.

Snap, I've built this Dragon 3 in 1 Nashorn Smart Kit and if you can work your way through their instructions, it builds up very nice. As to the AM stuff, I usually wait to see how the kit looks in person before I pick any up, it's generally just a few days wait when I order them so its not that big of deal unless I know for a fact what I'll need. Actually the new kit from Tamiya looks interesting and I'm sure it'll be on the shelf real soon.

James,

Concurring with Terry, aka jibber said, the Dragon kit is very nice overall (IMHO) as long as you understand the instructions are less than perfect.

I strongly recommend test fitting and doing double checks.

Hey Bish,

Thanks a bunch for the insight and history. I do like those decals. Now I have to find a set.

I have been doing some more digging and I was mistaken about the insignia. The lion badge was the insignia of the 519th not the 525. The latter does not seem to have had any unit badge, so all you really need is the vehicle number.
