Coming along nicely there Bish! I hear you about not wanting to lose the camo, applying it more to the lower hull and tracks should do the trick though. Wink

Thanks Steve, fortunately, this was a short one and I will blame it on having to put this kit to one side while waiting for paint. After doing the 335, it was hard to get my head back into armour mode.

Sorry my updates are not as informative as some of the other guys like doog and bill, i'll try and work on that for my next WiP thread.

Not informative?  if a picture is worth a thousand words then you just gave us 8000 and I'd say that was informative.

I understand about the modeling slumps just started digging   myself  out of one too

Apologise for the lack of update's guys, progress has been a bit slow. I got into one of those slumps where it can be hard to get motivated, but I am getting back into it now.

Since the last update, I have added most of the tools road wheels and painted and added the jerry cans. I have done some light chipping and added some AK streaking grime to the vertical surfaces to make it a bit grimy. I have been in 2 minds about using AK's dust effects as I don't want to lose the camo completely. I have decided to add it to the lower hull and a light coat over the top decks. I will be doing that after adding the final tools and some stowage on the rear decks. I managed to find some rope for ship models today which I think will be ideal for tying things down, so I have ordered 2 sizes and should be here at the end of the week. In the meantime I will make a start on the figures and hopefully I can wrap this up once the rope arrives.

So, heres the pics of where I am at now.

And that it for now. Sorry my updates are not as informative as some of the other guys like doog and bill, i'll try and work on that for my next WiP thread.

Thanks Sprue. After all the work on the 88, the fuel rack was a breeze.

Nice to see someone has some confidence in me Wink

Thanks Jean. I think if it was the 3 colour Euro scheme with a bigger contrast in colours, it would have a much more subtle effect that this, though they don't actually do a ready made filter for those, I get the feeling these filters are more designed for single colour schemes.

Nice progress Bish!

The filter really blended in your camouflage, although it was already gently subtle to begin with.  I wonder what the effect of that filter would be on a "hard edge" camouflage....

Keep these updates coming!

The markings blend in with the finish very well, can't wait to see this finished.

Thanks Bill. I have been reading stuff about them bringing life and depth to a model, and I never really understood what this means. When I first started proper weathering a few years back, I use to give the model a light very thin coat of the base colour, so I guess the filter does the same thing. I only did one coat as I didn't want to lose the scheme completely.

markings are my favourite bit, it give the model an identity.

Nice progress, the markings always bring a build to life IMHO. As for the filter purpose, that's exactly what they are supposed to do. It 'ties together' the finish with another added layer. Since the 'Tropen' tones are pretty close together to start with, any filter over them is going to mute their differences even further. Filters have a more dramatic effect when you've got more contrasting colors involved but the end result is still the same essentially.

Finally got a bit done and able to do an up date. After the decals, I did some dry brushing followed by AK's filter followed by their weathering wash, both for DAK vehicles.

I used this filter on the 88 I did early this year, and now as then, I am still not sure I see the purpose of filters. Aside from making the two colours harder to distinguish, I can't see what else it has done. Or maybe its just me.

Well, here's where I am at.

 That's all for now.

Thanks Bill. I know its been a bit since an update, I have been concentrating on my Do 335. But I have got the markings on the Panzer and started weathering, so will have some pics hopefully tomorrow.

Nice work on the camo pattern Bish. Always love seeing the 'Tropen' scheme on N. Afrika vehicles. Beer

Thanks Sofa, and thanks for reminding me, I had forgotten to update this Sat.

Here the pics of the Pz III. The second colour is still a little tacky, so it will probably be tomorrow before I can get the decals on. But the figures have also arrived so I can be getting on with the rest of the dio as well.

Good start.

I've always had a soft spot for the Tamiya PzIII, I should do one some day.

I normally make sure I have everything to hand before I start a project. But it was not until the last minute that I realised the figures I have don't work and I had used up the paint I need. Fortunately on this one I got caught out. But, at least I have another build I can be getting on with in the meantime.

Bish

I have had to put this on hold for a bit. I went to paint it on Fri and realised I was out of the colour I need, I had used it all on that big 88, so I have to order some. I would normally be getting on with the figures in the meantime, but I need to order them in as well. So aside from finishing the base and painting the tracks and tools, theres nothing else I can do. Hopefully I can carry on next weekend.

Ha, this always seems to be the immortal downfall of modelers around the world.  Ordering and waiting.  One kit requires dozens of additional parts, each you have to order and wait for....the cycle goes on and on. Big Smile

Your dead right on that. I am surprised Tamiya didn't consider it, but it was a pretty easy fix.

Nice work on that rack Bish, definitely adds a 'DAK" flavor to this one! Fuel and water were top priorities in the desert and wherever they could stick more cans, they did! Wink

Thanks doog. Though I am not sure I would class this as an old kit. I think this one was released on 2008, though I know its based on the 97 Ausf L. Well, I already have the Fruils and I just can't stand those rubber band tracks. And this kit is currently going for quite a bit more than a set of Fruils, the current price surprised me when I looked.

Wow, man! Lots of nostalgia going on in these old kit builds! Bravo!! You guys are killing these old kits; really bumping them up to a higher standard!

The rack is great! I"d use one of the regular plastic links kit; skip the Froolies--you can buy another old kit or even two for that cost! :)
