Tamiya 1/35th Pz III Ausf N WiP (Completed pics page 4)

Thanks guys. I just had to add that storage rack and I have had a thing for scratchbuilding lately. And its been a few years since I have worked on some Fruils, i just hope i can remember how.

build looking good so far, liking that fuel rack.

I got the construction finished today. No issues at all with this kit. As for the PE, this is the second Voyager set I have used, and I am seeing a pattern. Lots of left overs, with no indication of what should be left out, so I spend ages checking the instructions to see if I have missed anything. But aside from that, pretty nice. I scratch built a jerry can rack basing it on pics of several vehicles in Africa as I could find one of the vehicle I am doing.

And that's it for now. Just after I took this, it went off to the spray booth for a coat of primer. I will be leaving that to dry for a couple of days, in the meantime I can start on the Fruils. 

Thanks Jay. It is a nice kit, but I am surprised at the current cost, I just checked Hannants and its £40. I couldn't find the Dragon kit any where, but if I was to buy one of these again and the Dragon kit was cheaper, I would go for that. I have had this kit a few years, but I do tend to opt for Dragon kits over Tamiya. With a Dragon kit I am less likely to need AM tracks and barrels, although the barrel in this one is a nice metal one. And while I do usually get PE for Dragon kits, I do have a few where I havn't needed any. So, generally speaking, a Tamiya kit will cost as much if not more than the Dragon, but that because I am an AM addict.

I notice the Dragon kit come with Magic tracks which I like and has storage racks for Jerry cans which is a nice touch that Tamiya misses out, I have just had to scratch build those.

A while ago I asked (see my thread here : http://cs.finescale.com/fsm/modeling_subjects/f/3/t/159665.aspx) for a great Panzer III kit and I was wondering if this Tamiya one is good, as I find it a bit expensive (I haven't seen it for less than 60$, while a Dragon kit of the same model is more in the 45$ range).

Ye, its going together pretty nicely. Its my first Tamiya build in 6 years, I was forgetting how nice they are.

Thanks Clint. I did try that out a while back, but I couldn't get into it. I have a couple of word documents that I keep track of everything on and I find that works really well. I found there was a lot of info on there that I didn't feel I needed, like cost of kit, when it was released where I got it etc. that seems ok for a collector, but just seem to much for me. So I just went back to my documents which just work for me.

But thanks for the heads up.

Hey Bish I've been using a program called kitbase to keep track of all my kits and extra stuff like PE and resin ect. Its a bit expensive for the full program but they do have a free version that I used for a long time. I've got about half my kits entered into it but me and the wife just bought a new house so I'm gonna wait to we get all moved in to catalog the rest of my kits here's a link if interested.

Thanks guys. Roy, I am leaving them like that for now while I paint them, not sure if I am having them both open yet, depends on the figures. They seem to close ok, so I am not sure why they open that far. They are workable and that's just how they sit, but this way I can move them to paint both sides before I get them to the final position. The right side hatch is the same, I have fixed that in place with wire so the doors are movable until I decide on the final position.

But as always, thanks for the heads up.

Nice start.  You might want to consult pictures as to the angle that the commander's hatches opened up.  I don't think they splayed below horizontal like you have them.  FYI

Thanks for following along guys, I will try not to keep you waiting to long. I will be including some progress pics of the base and figures later on as well.

In all the years I have been building German armour, this is my first Pz III of any kind, so its long over due.

Clint, I know that problem. I have made to mark all the boxes that my kits are stored in and then list the location of each kit in a document. Hope you can find it soon.

looking good so far Bish. I picked one of theses up at hobby lobby about 5 years ago, just wish I could remember where I put it. Can't wait to see you get this built
