Since coming back to the hobby after Christmas, I have only ever done 1 kit at a time. I have just started the Dragon Firefly Vc. I have painted the road wheels, and need to dull coat them before assembling the rest of the running gear. Then on to the lower hull. At some point in time I'm going to have to do the indy link tracks. I've never done them before, so I fear the onset of massive amounts of frustration and bad language.

If you are going to use the kit tracks on this guy, they are a big tricky. Especially if you want to use the extended winter spades on the outside. How I've done it:
I clipped off the parts for the tracks, trimmed them and sanded the attachment points.
I shaved off the 3 round "tips" from the face of the tread plates. I have not filled the ejector pin marks though.
Making sure the chevron pattern on the plates are facing the same way, I glued from 5 to 10 links together using the regular type side pieces. Then I placed that length against a straight edge jig with the side pieces against straight edge.
Then, I aligned the vertical part of the edges pieces so they were all pointing straight up. Next, I pushed against the other side of the links to make sure the run of links was straight in line.
I let the cement set up until it was hard, then glued the otherside (the extended side pieces) onto the links and let them dry.
This sounds like a strange way to do it, but I found if I cemented both sets of side pieces on the links at the same time, the run would curve. Robert (shermanfreak) said the holes in the two sets of side pieces are molded with slightly different spacing.
Needless to say, this is for the straight portions of the runs. I still have to glue up the portions that go around the drivers and idlers.
Good luck
Bill
