Hi, Bill! I musta missed this post over the last week.

The stencils I used on the E-100 were Eduard's German Numbers Large set (XT 009).

The King ain't gonna make the deadline, I'm afraid...which means the 1/16 Tiger I launch will be delayed as well.

Well, have been doing a bit of research and I've come up with a series of German AFVs that will (should) make a decent looking 'big cats' display. It will be called 'Unleash the beasts', or something like that!

SdKfz 234 Puma
Tiger I
King Tiger
Hunting Tiger
Panther
Pz II ausf L Luchs (Lynx)
Gepard AA
Leopard I
Leopard II
Spz Luchs 8 wheel A/C
Jaguar

The problem is a constant scale... All but the Sdkfz 234 are available in 1/87, while the Gepard and the Jaguar are not in 1/72 - 1/76.... Of course the Gepard could be modified from a Leopard I...

Also, I never knew that 'Panther' was not a specific animal... It's a name given to a number of big cats... usually to the Leopard, and its South American cousin the Jaguar. As to Gepard, it's German for Cheetah. Notice that the animal called Florida Panther is a type of Puma. My head is spinning now...

I had TWO sets of the Maus decals in my E-100's box! Used neither, since I stenciled. Great for the spare decals box!

I looked at my 7 year old sons homework last night. They have him writing numbers in Japanese! School was never like that for me! I don't know what their idea behind it is (it's in his math class), but I assume they are trying to show the kids that numbering systems are similar even if the symbols are totally different. (Two weeks ago, it was numbers in braille!)

I keep taking the e out and drooling over the pieces!! Still thinking about a paint scheme. I think I've decided on one as a Wermacht '46 design. As a clue...I've always wanted to do a tank in Panzer Grey, but I won't stop there!

btw, The decals that came with my kit say they are for the Maus! Do you remember if your's were that way, of did I get a "special" edition?? Since it's all hypothetical as to "decorations", I figure it doesn't matter much, but am curious as to what the e-100 decals looked like.

Those Japanese "names" don't really have meaning, per se. Not like "Tiger" or "Sherman," anyway. They were just simple designations. In the case of the Chi-Ha, Chi indicated medium, but doesn't mean medium in the Japanese language. It is the first "letter" of the word chuu, which does mean middle, or medium, however. The Ha or He or Ni designates the sequence in which the design was introduced.

I was thinking of Patton's Patton and his parade jeep I'd seen at the Patton Museum in storage.... (I sat in 'his' seat, but don't tell anybody as it's secret, okay?) And how much the jeep even looked like 'Patton'. You know, custom fenders, gloss green paint, not OD, etc. And. well, began to wonder what (had Patton lived) what his parade tank would look like.
So, that's the tack I'm taking. After all, aren't a tanker and his tank one in the same?
