Well jthurston I was giving your idea a shot. I poked around the shop and found a box of springs. Found some small ones, looked around and saw the spare PE parts from the build, looked over them. Some how or another I had two full sets, which came in handy being my first build using any aftermarket stuff other than seatbelts on a p51 i nearly finished over the summer. Found that I did not use the mounting brackets for a chemical bottle. I cut the bottoms off which ended up being nearly exactly the same diameter as the spring. touch of CA, attach to the end of the spring folded the lip around the spring looks great! Intended to pop a hole throw both ends to string wire through and put come compression on it. I went to do a dry fit to see how it looked on the mounting bracket and poof! It was gone. Hey, it's a spring, when it hit something it's does what? Spring! I looked all around on hands and knees, no where to be found. So if you all got a minute look under your workbench, shoot, it may have gotten a good bounce...
Ski4 your idea is next, and here's some pictures. I was playing with the other spring and was planning on posting these pictures to get you all's ideas about scale. I wasn't sure if it was to big. I don't have the tools to micro rule the height nor the actual height of the antenna base, but that’s mute now. Going with the wrapped wire technique. I was looking forward to having a actual whip antenna whippin around.
Well here’s some picts, be kind, I’m maybe 75-80% complete.
I'd love some feed backabout the seats, I'm trying to make it look like the leather is faded and worn.
