Finally, a pic in Armour Modelling!
Posted by J-Hulk on Thursday, October 9, 2003 11:26 PM
Hi, folks!Smile [:)]

Well, I'm pretty happy! I finally got a picture and a small writeup in Armour Modelling, which is, along with FSM, one of my favorite modeling magazines.

It's my ol' E-100 (see my signature and old posts), which I displayed at the Kansai Armor Modeller's Conference this past September. You can check out all the other great models in that article, plus I'll post the link once we get it up and running.

Anyway, the article is on page 101, were you can see my big gray E right up at the top left, listed as picture and writeup # 1.

Yeah, it's waaay in the back of the mag, and it's only a short writeup, but it's my first time appearing in any major magazine, so I'm pretty excited about it!

Next month I also have an article and some pix (M-41 Walker Bulldog) in Tamiya News, too. Do they sell that outside of Japan? Never saw it till I came here.

So now maybe I'm ready for the next step: an article in FSM!!!Big Smile [:D]

Congrats, J-hulk. That mag is quite rare here, though.
Anyway keep up the good work.

Looking forward to the post.

Happy Modelling

Thanks, fellas!Smile [:)]

Although neither of these "debuts" is all that significant, it's still a great thrill to see one of my babies in print!

But the real "debut" was when I first posted pix here on the FSM site. I didn't know what to expect! The best thing to me is the feedback and support you get from the community here. Although it's extremely cool to see your stuff in a magazine, you don't get anywhere near the personal feedback that you do here in the forums.

I'm still pretty proud to be published, though!Big Smile [:D]

J-Hulk,
far too modest!
congratulations!!
the thing to consider is:
while your posts and pics here will get more feedback, it is mostly 'preaching to the choir'. the forum represents a relatively motivated group of modelers and something of a close-knit 'family'. (not that this is a bad thing!)
but getting your stuff in a magazine gives you an opportunity to show your stuff to a broader audience and perhaps inspire even more modelers or would-be modelers!
it really IS a big deal.
just don't let it go to your head! ;-)

Brian,

My heart felt congratulations, my friend. I am so happy for you. What a thrill to know that someone else thought enough of what you did to publish it. That's another big difference from putting stuff up here. And you deserve to have it published. I suppose we can stand to have your head a LITTLE bigger, just don't let it get any greener!! (Unless it's a little more olive drab, of course!!)

Thanks for all the kind words, fellas!Smile [:)]

No need worrying about me getting a big head--there's NO WAY this melon of mine could get any bigger! Big Smile [:D]

I just hope an issue or two makes its way over to Europe or North America. If any of you fine folk happen to see it, please let me know! It's the November issue, with a bunch of Pnzr IVs on the cover.

It's all in Japanese, but you should be able to recognize Big E!Wink [;)]

Warmest congrats to you on your success, Brian. It is well desrved. It is a great thrill to be published, isn't it? At least I can finally see someone I know in one of these pubs! I'm pretty sure that the mag doesn't make it out to the states, so is there any way that you might be able to scan it and send a few of us a copy?

Brian,
now that i have had more time to think about it, i have come up w/ an excellent idea:
since the magazine is hard to find outside of Japan,
and you are IN Japan,
i think we should treat it like a "hole in one".
instead of you taking us back to the clubhouse for drinks,
you can just buy a copy for each of us and mail them out!
then we can truly appreciate your accomplishment! Big Smile [:D]Wink [;)]

let me know when you need my address!
(chortling as if i were funny)

Doumo, doumo!
Shikashi, zenzen taishita koto ja nai kara, chotto hazukashii ne.
Ma, yappari ureshii kedo ne!

How good is your Japanese, Frosty? You seem to have a pretty good understanding! Your homework is to translate the above. It's written in the Hepburn style of romanization, if that's any help!

Also, I hope the charmly amenity of each greater happiness equals you. And warmthful greet! (typical mangled English rampant in Japanese advertising!)

Thanks, Frosty.

Sherm and Demono, thanks, guys! I gotta tell ya, this has really motivated me to focus more than ever on making the best models I can. Of course, I've always tried to do my best, but I have a real low "ah, that's good enough!!" threshold, and sometimes I let stuff slide that I should spend more time on.

Like this Tiger II sitting next to me on the desk here!
Back to it!

Thanks again, all!Big Smile [:D]

Mark, Greatmodels doesn't list it. They have some of the Tamiya mags and Koku Fan, but I think that's aircraft.

Sorry

Way to go, Brian!
When you start sending copies to everyone, would it be to much trouble if you signed mine. Would you have it say, "To Trevor, my good friend. With out you I would not be the modeler that I am today." or would it be better if you said something like how you learned everthing from me. Well just put whatever you think sounds better.
Trevor Where am I going and why am I in this handbasket?

It doesn't surprise me. Truely impressive stuff Brian. It would be cool to see it live in print. Good luck on any future projects.

Congrats J-Hulk! How proud are you? Navin R Johnson says that you're really somebody when you get your name in print. I'll have to go and check that one out when it hits the stands. I'm impressed.

Congrats my friend, Congrats. Big Smile [:D] I'm estatic over your getting published. I've figured I will be a "good" modeler when I can get one in FSM's "Reader Gallery". That's my long term goal. So I know you've got to be on cloud 9.
