Looks good Carl.I got the  trumpeter one last week. I liked the look of Mike Rinaldi's turret design. I like the primer, If you decide to camo it I don't think it will make much difference.

spotted this one on missing links earlier.

Doog,

Nice work so far! On the barrel primer color for a dark-gray primer vs. a red oxide primer, the shade is most likely close to what you've got going with the camo shade of gray. It should be a darker gray, but not as dark as Panzer Gray if that makes any sense...

Cool! That's what I did--hit it with Panzer Grey and then a lighter mix over that. I'm gonna use oil filters to tint it differently. Thanks for that info, Bill!

terry--thanks! I intend on getting the Trumpeter offering soon--it's way cool looking, I agree!  I hope they release the "Krokodil" as well--ever see that beast? Like a Jagdpanther based on the E-100! It's a mean beast! "Tanks" for that link to that E-100; it's so cool to see the different, weird paint schemes that people are coming up with on these!

boomerang--good to see you back! But then again, that's what "boomerangs" do, isn't it! LOL! Laugh [(-D] Thanks for the comments!

That is looking really nice.  I love the camo.  If Ohio State were to have a tank, that would be the one. You know that I would have been very careful walking across the quadSmile [:)]

I agree with the airbrushing comment... very nicely done.  The presahding and panel fading all have a nie look.  A very "aircraftish" technique BTW.Wink [;)]  Didn't know treadies did preshading too. I figured eventhing went on over the paint.

doog this Beast look's too cool,Bow [bow] the turret alone could be a tank all by itself.

Good choice on the camo, that red primer just look's to good to cover up.I had the same problem with the track's on my DML KT meeting up on the wrong link, had to repostion the idler to get them to fit.

Nice to see Hanz and Franz survived the Russian winter lol.One more thing is that lilac piping on Hanz's cap or is the lighting playing trick's on us Wink [;)].

doog: I'm still a little unclear on what you are doing with the red primer...Dunce [D)]  Are you on to the washes/filters next...making this a red/gray tank?  It would look great if you did.  Is that why you spent so much effort on the red?...Or are you going to add dark yellow now and finish the camo' and cover all the primer?  If so why did you spend so much time on the primer..don't get me wrong, it was a worthwhile effort...did you hope it would show through the camo' or what...Confused [%-)]  I'm curious because I like to build up paint and truly layer it as it was done in real life.  Please clue me in with your reasons and expectations/goals.  Thanks dude!!!Thumbs Up [tup] (I meant to spell it dude not doog that time)Wink [;)]

Rose is the correct color for the Panzer Corps.  It does look a little purpleish in the photo, but I'm sure it's pink.

OK well....remember what I said in the first post about "before I ruin it..."??? Whistling [:-^]

Oh, you guys are gonna hate me......Evil [}:)]

JUST KIDDING!

Actually though, it is undergoing an extensive "refitting". I started looking at it and thinking, "Hmmm.....you know it looks kinda bare...how's the TC gonna see? What if they break a track? WHere's the spare links?"

And so I started looking around for ideas for turning the E-100 into more of a realistically-modified tank, to portray it as I feel it would look after actually entering production.

SO.....I added a few things...Whistling [:-^].....A cupola was added from the SP bin. Lifting hooks were placed on the top of the turret. The weird rear hatch was modded to look more like the Maus's (that's not finished yet...) The sides were given spare links holders (I' can't remember where they came from--if I had to guess, I'd say an old Nichimo kit? (SAVE EVERYTHING!!! Laugh [(-D]) I also added persicope covers....I added some batle damage in the way of shell hits/deflected shots...what else....grab handles on the turret and hatches, a more realistic tool arrangemnet, and a gun cleaning rod case on the rear, ala' the Panther G. And an antenna mount...Here's the pics...the tools aren't finished/glued on yet, so they may not look properly attached.

So, I'll have to do a repainting when I'm finished. Luckily, I was only 50% finished with the coat anyway. Still, it's gonna be a tedious process..but she's worth it Tongue [:P]

wing_nut---"Preshading"'s not the ONLY thing that "treadies" do that you "airheads" (Wink [;)]) don't know about! (Stick around and you'll learn more of our secrets! Laugh [(-D])

panzerguy and ps1sc---no, there's no mistake on the waffenfarbe--it's pink! I admittedly like mine a touch "pinker" than "rose", as I feel that the actual "rose" color is just a tad too close to looking "red" in this scale.

smjmodeler (STEVE!!! LOL! Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg])---I want to do this as a somewhat hypothetical scheme of red primer with panzer gray and a little bit of thinned Dark Yellow. I hadn't added the DY in the previous photos or even yet--I will after I'm happpy with the construction. I also might add s little bit of "ambush" scheme to it in the same colors.I'm kinda going for a more "advanced" build of my little 1/72 E-100, which I was really happy with, as far as the camo goes...I wanted to try a bit of new technique on this that I got from the Armorama site and recent feature. It's pretty cool, and gave me some ideas.

I will probably do another one of these, perhaps tyhe Trumpeter E-100 ausf B offering, in standard 3-color scheme...I like the possibility of doing something "weird" there too though..

Well. back to the bench in a few minutes or so here...I gotta get on the other side's spare track mounts--ugh. Lots of measuring and pencil marks....tedious......let me know what you think so far, though!?

Watch this space for updates! Big Smile [:D]

Like there was even a way to get rid of me at this point. Big Smile [:D]  I feel fairly certtin the bulk of my spending with the vendors at MosquitoCon will be with the armor boys.

And learning is a good thingTongue [:P] Iam going to use the hairspray method I picked up here on a ditrssed white washed Haker Hurricane in Russian markings.

Now I have a question about what you have done.  The things you have added have changed the look of the thing.  Are these based on compnents that can be added to the real deal in the form of refit of field imods?  Or have you forward or back dated this to a diffenert version? Or is it a total "what-if" from the get go?

Well, my thinking was that if you actually gave this tank to crews in the field, the would want/need the things I've added--a cupola, spare tracks, radio communication, etc...as well as some details that I feel would be standard items---hatch handles, lifting hooks, tools, etc--that just had not been included on either mock-ups or on paper, or even on the pre-production prototype tanks. Sort of "logical guesswork" based on the KT's and what we know of general German tank design and layout...

So I assume your typical German armor unit would have a welding torch, either on the tanks itslef or with the field maintenence guys.  Would they cut some parts off as slavage and weld them on a differnet vehicle in the field?

I like the cupola, but if you have an extra Trumpeter E25 laying around, it has an option for a little turret.  That would look very cool.  (see the e25 in background)

Hmmm...well not really THAT; not that they would necessarily go around canniblaizing other tanks and all that--although that DID happen.

I'm saying, and to some extent theorizing, that I believe that in trials these things would all be discussed and added as necessary, as desired. Don't forget that the kitmakers are probably covering their a**es by NOT adding in stuff like this for which they have no evidence to provide proof. That's up to the modeler. But I sincerely believe that at least some of the mods I've done here would indeed have been added in production tanks.

ps1scw--that's a cool looking little panzerjeager! It's going on my "to get list"!!

I hope I didn't misrepresent myself.  I didn't build that, I google searched for it to show the turret cupola.  I just thought that it would look cool on your 100

I like the mods/additions, all of them have a logical "fit". I can't recall where, but I remember vaguely reading something about how the track links for this monster were too heavy for a single person to lift? Could be why there weren't any fitted to the turret sides from a hypothetical stand-point but they do look awfully bare without them...and your inclusion just adds to the overall finish IMHO.

Oh OK, gotcha; no problem! Smile [:)]......it would look cool, perhaps as a secondary turret for the gunner, but it would't do much for the commander's view...odd that they wouldn't have considered that in the design? No vision ports, ya know? Strange.....!

Hey redleg! --the "Schirmutze: was seen with rose-pink waffenfarbe on the crown of the cap; if you're talking about an "Officer's braid" around the bottom of the cap, no, that's just the waffenfarbe that surrounded the band around the bottom--perhaps it IS a bit heavy; I shall attempt to thin it a bit. Hmmm...maybe I should add an "Officer's braid"?

Franz is wearing the snazzy new gray leather gloves bought for him by his Frau at Christmas, after freezing his mitts off on the Russian steppes. Big Smile [:D]

I think there should be a bit more distinction between the panzergrey camo and the grey primer on the barrel though. Still looks good and a very entertaining yet speculative subject.

You can dip the whole thing in brake fluid. It's ok to soak plastic in those for ~ 20 minutes, all the paint coats and surface primer will come off.

Some parts might come off too (especially what you glued after painting), but they won't be physically damaged. Just be careful when you rinse so you don't lose stuff.

The chemical isn't nice, don't put your hands in without surgical gloves

I bet Hanz and Franz  are pretty "pumped up" to be driving that beast!

Seriously though I understand your viewpoint on adding the extra "necessities" and I think it's a great Idea and definently makes this "paper panzer" all the more real!

Hey guys!

OK, well, I got the paint finished--I've repaired the Primer Red and Panzer Gray, and added some Dark Yelow, and put some ambush spots on her--ain't she purrrrdy?

I am going to have to beat it up a bit to take some of the "pretty" away--looking back at the two-color I had going there, I'm a bit torn about what I like better, but I think the 3-color is a little more realistic..I hope.

I have to be honest--the original pic of the Aberdeen Jagdtiget was an inspiration, which was in 3-color ambush. It's hard to find a true "original" photo of it, but I've seen one of it cleaned up and on the tank transporter before being repainted, and it's pretty "pretty" too.

So here it is...

I've given the main gun barrel a wash of grey-green oil to tint it differently than the panzer gray camo. I've allso lightly drybrushed the sides and suspension before the washes start...now, onto the tracks and some basic weathering to start....Comments welcomed!!! Big Smile [:D]

Doog, that's just too cool.  I liked the basic primer, I was 'meh' with the grey striping but what you've got now is AWESOME.  I can't wait to see how you weather it down and finish it off- that camo design and coloration is a new benchmark IMO.

Doog, well-executed (as usual) but I did so love the two-tone it was in earlier; it was rather a breath of fresh air after so many tri-color and disc/ambush schemes...

I agree with Manny,  I liked it in it's 2 tone and even in the base red primer perhaps a little better, but it still looks good now.
